To Atwood, How dare you edit God's word? You are a little off the truth of these verses. John came preaching the BAPTISM (WATER) of repentance, in the waters of baptism, for the confession of your faith. NO CONFESSION = NO SALVATION.! Love to all, Hoffco

Why, would Peter,GOD, say "baptism does save" if it is a lie.
because that's not what Peter said. (but think: why would men say this? why would humans teach that a sacramental human work saves, denying the grace and working of God? would you like to buy some indulgences? cheap? go ahead and sin -- you can say some rosary prayers later, it'll be just fine. . . )

this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also — not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

he said the water symbolizes baptism that saves.

he said it wasn't the removal of dirt from the body - to wit, not an earthly bath.

he said it was the answer of a good conscience toward God.

he said it is by the resurrection of Christ that we are saved.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
(1 Peter 4:8)

why would Peter say that love covers over sins, if it was not love, but H[SUB]2[/SUB]O that remits sin?

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
(1 Peter 5:10)

why would Peter say that God Himself restores us and empowers us, if a ritual washing was sufficient to do that? why did the Hebrews, who had all kinds of ritual washings, still have need of a Savior?

did water save Noah?

the water destroyed the enemies of God, but no, Noah's life was preserved by the ark.

but that ark was the answer of Noah's good conscience toward God - Noah built it because he believed God.

without that Noah had faith, he would have drowned in the water with all the rest of that wicked generation.

[SUP]40 [/SUP]And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
[SUP]41 [/SUP]Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 8:12
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Acts 10:47-48King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]47 [/SUP]Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

[SUP]48 [/SUP]And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 8:12
But when they believed_{That is when they were SAVED.} Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized {That is when they took their first step in their Walk of Obedience.} , both men and women.

Their first step in their Walk of Obedience is not part of SALVATION, but the Walk of Obedience is what a geniune BELIEVER after he is SAVED can finally do because of the Holy Spirit is in them to empower them to Walk in Obedience.

Now is verse 40 and 41 of the poor translation that you quoted above, you seem to be using that to try to justify that it is your responsibility to "SAVE YOURSELF" and that Church Membership is part of "SAVING YOURSELF".

Obviously you have not read Young's Literal Translation to check to see what was literally being said in the Greek:

Acts 2:40-42 (YLT)
[SUP]40 [/SUP] Also with many more other words he was testifying and exhorting, saying, `Be saved from this perverse generation;' {NO SAVE YOURSELVES THERE AT ALL, and the NKJV corrected that error.}
[SUP]41 [/SUP] then those, indeed, who did gladly receive his word were baptized, and there were added on that day {And the very next verse makes it clear that HE is talking about becoming active members of the Congregation.}, as it were, three thousand souls,
[SUP]42 [/SUP] and they were continuing stedfastly in the teaching of the apostles, and the fellowship, and the breaking of the bread, and the prayers. {I think we know now why you did not quote verse 42.}

Romans 4:3-5 (HCSB)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness.
[SUP]4 [/SUP] Now to the one who works {To EARN part of his Salvation.}, pay is not considered as a gift, but as something owed.
[SUP]5 [/SUP] But to the one who does not work {To EARN part of his Salvation.}, but believes on Him who declares the ungodly to be righteous, his faith is credited for righteousness. {When were we considered to be UNGODLY by GOD? PRIOR TO RECEIVING JESUS OUR LORD.}

Ephesians 2:8-9 (HCSB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift
[SUP]9 [/SUP] not from works, so that no one can boast.

John 1:12-13 (HCSB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name,
[SUP]13 [/SUP] who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. {There is that Spiritual Immersion into the Spiritual Body of Christ, that is also called Born Again; happening the moment we believe.}

Acts 11:17 (ASV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?

John 11:45 (KJV)
[SUP]45 [/SUP] Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on Him.

John 3:18 (NKJV)
[SUP]18 [/SUP]He who believes in Him is not condemned {WHEN is he not condemned? The Moment he believes.}; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

HOW do we tell genuine FAITH for the counterfeit that is only intellectually acknowledging who He is, like the demons do?

Genuine Faith, which SAVES US THE MOMENT WE BELIEVE, always produces a desire and the ability to Obey Him.

John 14:15 (HCSB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] “If you love Me, you will keep My commands.

That WILL KEEP, implies an ongoing lifestyle of Obedience. It is not implying that we are perfect but rather that we are those who always strive to walk in Obedience to him, because he SAVED us. And when we fail, our desire to Obey HIM, leads us to confess and repent of that sin as described in 1 John 1:9. THUS the genuinely SAVED will continually strive to Obey, including following Him into the waters of Baptism. We are not saved because of that Water Baptism, but rather we get Baptized because of the genuine Faith and SALVATION that He poured into our hearts the moment we BELIEVED.

Romans 5:1-5 (HCSB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
[SUP]2 [/SUP] We have also obtained access through Him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
[SUP]3 [/SUP] And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance,
[SUP]4 [/SUP] endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.
[SUP]5 [/SUP] This hope will not disappoint ⌊us⌋, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Oops, I forgot that I said my goodbyes on this thread. Yet more proof HE IS IN CONTROL, not me. COME!

Mark 16:16King James Version (KJV)

ONE LAST TIME that is talking about the Baptism that the Holy Spirit does to us the moment we believe, when HE IMMERSES (Baptizes) US into the spiritual Body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:13 (GW)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] By one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether we are Jewish or Greek, slave or free, God gave all of us one Spirit to drink.

NOT INTO WATER, and like posthuman tried to explain to you, at a point in time that is AFTER we were SAVED by that BAPTISM INTO THE SPIRITUAL BODY OF CHRIST, we will follow HIM in obedience, into the waters of Baptism to announce PUBLICALLY that We WERE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST'S SPIRITUAL BODY. YOU DO NOT GET TO PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK SAYING "I DID MY PART TO SAVE MYSELF". NO, The Holy Trinity did it all.

ONLY you are not there yet. You were Baptized in Water without being Baptized into the Spiritual Body of Christ FIRST. THUS you are not BORN AGAIN YET.

You went into the waters of Baptism as a dry sinner;

And you came out of the waters of Baptism as a wet sinner.

YOU literally got the cart ahead of the horse, trying to work it out for yourself, and it DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY:

1 Peter 3:20-21 (ISV)
[SUP]20 [/SUP] who disobeyed long ago in the days of Noah, when God waited patiently while the ark was being built. In it a few, that is, eight persons, were saved by water. {Because they believed GOD that the Flood would come.}
[SUP]21 [/SUP] Baptism {Immersion into the spiritual body of Christ,}, which is symbolized by that water, now saves you also {Only the Baptism that is the Immersion into the spiritual body of Christ SAVES,}, not by removing dirt from the body, but by asking God for a clear conscience {confession leading to repentance} based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

You are missing the most important point of BAPTISM, you think Climbing into the Water SAVED YOU, and it DOES NOT.

VCO GREAT SONG...

I SURRENDER TO GODS GRACE AND MERCY........

I Can NOT DO ENOUGH to Earn My Salvation

I Can NOT Pray Enough; Read HIS Word Enough; Give Enough Money;
Get "Water Baptized"; Take Communion Purely; Ect.
I Fall Short Every Day...

I am Sinner .... And I do NOT Deserve Salvation....

So I Surrender....

Romans 6:[SUP]23 [/SUP]For the wages of sin is death,
but the GIFT of God
is eternal life in
[SUP] [/SUP]Christ Jesus our Lord.

I Sincerely; to the best of my Feeble Ability
Call out to GOD
In Humble Prayer
Asking Asking Asking
Him to Forgive me of my Sins, PLEASE
I Surrender......I am a Sinner in Need of a SAVIOR..
I Give Up doing my Life my way....
I put my TRUST AND FAITH
In Jesus Christ ....
That He IS Who that He Said that He Was
And Did what He said that He Did....
I Believe with ALL my Heart
That He PAID FOR... ALL my Sins At The Cross of Calvary...
I Accept YOUR "FREE GIFT".....OF SALVATION
THANK YOU....LORD JESUS FOR SAVING ME...

GODS Word Says in (NOT MY WORDS.....)

Acts 3:19
Repent ye therefore,
and be converted,
NOT "WATER BAPTIZED"
that your sins may be blotted out,
when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

newbirth. have you Surrendered ?????

What was your FIRST Conversation with GOD About???

Was it telling GOD that you were Going to DO Something
like being "water baptized"
to Show Him that you Deserved your Salvation ????

newbirth, have you ever sung this song???

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!

what saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ?...the subject of the discussion is baptism and Peter makes it very clear when he says ...It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

it is in plain view...yet you deny......it is as though you are hiding behind a blade of grass with your eyes closed hoping no on sees you....

is this a sign of your humility?....your faith seems to be in a song more than God...in doctrine of man more than God...as I said elsewhere ....you guys have destroyed the effectiveness of baptism...next on the list is the effectiveness of repentance....making the word of God no effect....just believe and receive.....that is doctrine of devils....

NO, being submerged into Water, symbolizes being submerged into the spiritual Body of JESUS.

THAT is the Baptism that you have NEVER submitted to, and Only that Spiritual Baptism SAVES.

NEWBIRTH please wake up.
There are two Baptisms in the Bible,

One is done spiritually involving the Holy Spirit, immersing you into the spiritual body of Christ.
The OTHER is immersed in water, to symbolize what happened spiritually when the Holy Spirit immersed you in the spiritual body of Christ.

One SAVES everybody who goes through it, INCLUDING THE THIEF ON THE CROSS.
The other is to show publicly what the Holy Spirit has done to you, and show you will follow Christ in Obedience.

One brings you into the most intimate relationship with JESUS CHRIST our LORD, that you can ever have.
The one in Water, brings you into an intimate relationship with your Congregation.

One results in you being BORN AGAIN, where the Holy Spirit brings your once dead human spirit to eternal life than can think with a spiritual mind that is in tune with GOD.
The other, only gets you wet, placing you in fellowship other like-minded believers, who also may not be BORN AGAIN.

where does the scripture teach that?
[h=1]1 Peter 3:20-22King James Version (KJV)[/h] [SUP]20 [/SUP]Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

[h=1]1 Peter 3:20-22American Standard Version (ASV)[/h] [SUP]20 [/SUP]that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:
[SUP]21 [/SUP]which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;
[SUP]22 [/SUP]who is one the right hand of God, having gone into heaven; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

[h=1]1 Peter 3:20-22GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)[/h] [SUP]20 [/SUP]They are like those who disobeyed long ago in the days of Noah when God waited patiently while Noah built the ship. In this ship a few people—eight in all—were saved by water. [SUP]21 [/SUP]Baptism, which is like that water, now saves you. Baptism doesn’t save by removing dirt from the body. Rather, baptism is a request to God for a clear conscience. It saves you through Jesus Christ, who came back from death to life. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Christ has gone to heaven where he has the highest position that God gives. Angels, rulers, and powers have been placed under his authority.

[h=1]1 Peter 3:20-22New International Version (NIV)[/h] [SUP]20 [/SUP]to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, [SUP]21 [/SUP]and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[SUP][a][/SUP] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, [SUP]22 [/SUP]who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
[h=4]none of these agree with your rubbish...[/h]someone suggested this...

[h=1]1 Peter 3:20-22Young's Literal Translation (YLT)[/h] [SUP]20 [/SUP]who sometime disbelieved, when once the long-suffering of God did wait, in days of Noah -- an ark being preparing -- in which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water;
[SUP]21 [/SUP]also to which an antitype doth now save us -- baptism, (not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the question of a good conscience in regard to God,) through the rising again of Jesus Christ,

[SUP]22 [/SUP]who is at the right hand of God, having gone on to heaven -- messengers, and authorities, and powers, having been subjected to him.

. . .

Mark 16:16King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]16 [/SUP]He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

We added or subtracted NOTHING. You added the words "in Water", behind the word baptized.

Here are THREE of the most famous Salvation verses in our Bibles, and THERE IS NOT ONE WORD IN THEM ABOUT BAPTISM IN WATER.

John 3:16 (ESV)
[SUP]16 [/SUP] “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:18 (ESV)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 3:36 (ESV)
[SUP]36 [/SUP] Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

YOU added the "Baptized in Water", we didn't; because you failed to study enough, to know there as a Spiritual Baptism that happens the MOMENT we genuinely Believe. It does not involve us doing anything, it is of the Holy Spirit, purely of the GRACE of GOD.

Even the ability to BELIEVE is a Gift from GOD.

GOD declares us SAVED, with no condemnation, and eternal life begins, the moment we Believe.

Even the ability to genuinely confess and repent of sin, is something the Holy Spirit empowers us to do.

Our once dead human spirit is brought to eternal life the moment we believe; and soon after we can discern we have a second mind functioning in us, and that spiritual mind, wars with the mind of the flesh, and will one day become dominant as we feed it the WORD of GOD.

The Baptism or Immersion of us into the spiritual Body of Christ is PURELY a work of the Holy Spirit, that happens at the moment we Believe.

The Holy Spirit pours the LOVE of GOD into our hearts (Rom. 5:5) the moment we Believe.

The ability to choose to submit to Jesus Christ as Lord spawns out that LOVE HE PUT IN OUR HEARTS.

The ability to choose to be Baptized in Water for the right reason, spawns out of that LOVE in our Hearts.

The ability to choose to Obey Him, and Walk in Obedience as a lifestyle, spawns out of that LOVE in our Hearts.

NONE of IT is something we can pat ourselves on the back for.

The Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, and the FATHER, get ALL THE CREDIT.

NO WE ADDED NOTHING, YOU OVERLOOKED THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF BECOMING A GENUINE CHRISTIAN; THAT IS BELIEVING IN THE SPIRITUAL BAPTISM THAT BEGINS IT ALL.

1 Corinthians 12:13 (HCSB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

YES, Baptizo, the GREEK WORK, means to become immersed into something else.

Hence plunging something into paint, is baptizing it.

Hence plunging an ice cream cone into melted chocolate is baptizing it in chocolate.

Hence jumping off a roof into a big sawdust pile, going over your head in it, is being baptized in sawdust.

Here is a FOX trying to "Baptize Himself in snow".

YOU, added "it is only talking about Water", to the Greek definition of the word Baptizo.

[SUP]13 [/SUP] For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

you are too bright for your own good...Jesus commanded one baptism...that’s what we do...that is our responsibility...can you baptise anyone with anything but water...? when you can baptise with spirit let me know...

Ephesians 4:4-6King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP]There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
[SUP]5 [/SUP]One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
[SUP]6 [/SUP]One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Spiritual Baptism is NOT SOMETHING WE DO, it is what the Holy Spirit does to place us into the spiritual body of Christ.

Do we discount Christian Water Baptims? NO WAY, they are the most important part of our CHRISTIAN WALK of OBEDIENCE that we do BECAUSE we were SAVED by the Blood of Christ, and therefore the Holy Spirit, Baptized us into the spiritual body of Christ. Do you even know why this is so hard for you to understand? Because you do not have the Holy Spirit in you YET, to give you understanding. AND I MEAN, YET! I absolutely believe GOD is calling you to BELIEVE, but you have to remove your stumbling blocks and "the Water SAVES" is a MAJOR stumbling block for you. I suspect, you have always held a piece of yourself back, just for yourself. YOU HAVE GOT TO LET GO OF IT, and give Jesus Christ complete control of your life, or you will never know born again. Let go of it all, old theologies, pride, etc. Give JESUS CHRIST the freedom to change anything in your life HIS CHOOSES TO CHANGE. Please, COME to HIM. HE is calling you.

YOU, added "it is only talking about Water", to the Greek definition of the word Baptizo.
well it makes a lot of sense to baptise in water since Christ was baptise in water....do you suppose the Jordan was at one time ice cream or paint....
I mean isn't that what is expected?....your reasoning is strange bro ...do you have any evidence of the apostles baptising in anything but water?

or do you have the ability to baptise in the Spirit?

born again of what ??? you believe that as soon as one believe in Jesus Christ at that moment they are saved...and is
baptised with the HS...so what is the purpose of you being water baptised? the scripture says there is one baptism and you say you got it ...why go for another...it makes no sense...don't say it is obedience ...because there is only one baptism...and you already have that down you obeyed baptism already...so why pretend with water? ....
Do we discount Christian Water Baptims? NO WAY
by your statements you did.........you have made it of no effect....
