From time to time I come across people who seem to believe certain myths about the bible when in fact they are not true. This thread is also not meant to argue different doctrines, but common misinterpretations of the bible which can easily be debunked. I know of two popular ones that may actually surprise some people:

1. "Women have more ribs than men"
This is in fact false. Women and men have the same amount of ribs. Many people say this to try to prove evidence of creation when Eve was formed out of Adam's rib.
The fact is this is more of a surgery. Adam was already fully formed. Taking his rib did not alter his DNA.

2. "Hate the sin. Not the sinner."
This passage is not in the bible. Yes, there are references in scripture we are to do this, but to put this in quotes to give credit to the bible is false.

What are some other myths that many Christians believe, but are easily proven false?

"saved" means go to heaven. thats a myth

and for hate the sin love the sinner, i think that that is part of God's character.
God so loved the world. He died for us while we were still sinners

so i think its in gods nature to love the sinner but hate the sin.

he loves his creation. he doesnt love the sin in the sinner but he still loves the sinner because they are his creation.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

The Devil Cannot Tell The Truth

Also Adam brought death to the world without Christ, that was a generational curse.

Ezekiel 18
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Yet do you say, Why does not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son has done that which is lawful and right and has kept all My statutes and has done them, he shall surely live.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]The soul that sins, it [is the one that] shall die. The son shall not bear and be punished for the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear and be punished for the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him only, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon the wicked only.

Matthew 4
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And he said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will give His angels charge over you, and they will bear you up on their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

Psalm 91

[SUP]11 [/SUP]For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service].

[SUP]12 [/SUP]They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

The devil knows the truth, but does not abide in it. He can use the truth to deceive, manipulate, and cause confusion.

The Three Wisemen.
Scripture does not say the number of wise men in the bible. We traditionally believe it was 3 only because of the number of gifts presented to baby Jesus.

The Sinners Prayer
It's actually not in the bible, but according to some sources is originiated in the 19th century.

7 Deadly Sins
Scripture does condemn these sins, but are not mentioned in scripture in any certain grouping. These writings originated in the medical era.

Lucifer was a king not satan. They had came to believe that it was in referrence to satan because he had fell. But in the scriptures all the kings were once admire by God and they all had fell.

The fall of the King of Tyre28:11-12 And the word of YHWH (Yahweh) came to me saying, 'Son of man, raise a dirge over the king of Tyre.
Say to him, "The Master YHWH (Yahweh) says this:
You were once a seal-print [exemplar] of perfection,
full of wisdom, perfect in beauty.
13 You came into luxury, a paradise from Elohim,
gems of every kind were your covering,
Sardin, topaz, diamond, chrysolite, onyx,
jasper, sapphire, carbuncle, emerald.
Your jingling beads were of gold,
and the spangles you wore were made for
you on the day of your birth.
14 I had provided you with a guardian cherub;
you were in the set-apart mountain of Elohim,
and you walked proudly among the stones that flashed with fire.
15 You were blameless in all your ways
from the day of your birth until iniquity came to light.
16 Your busy trading has filled you with lawlessness and sin,
so I thrust you down from the mountain of Elohim,
and the guardian cherub banished [or destroyed] you from
among the stones that flashed like fire.
17 Your heart has made you arrogant
because of your beauty.
You have corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
I have thrown you to the ground;
I have made you a spectacle for other kings.
18 So great was your sin in your wicked trading,
that you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I kindled a fire within you, to consume you.
I left you as ashes on the ground for all to see.
19 Of the nations, all who know you were aghast;
you became waste, gone forever."'

The King of Tyre - Is he the fallen angel called Satan?

''Don't debate just love''
which is in essence saying,
''Love is greater than Truth''
which is a self defeating statement.

Both are in the bible...speak the Truth in love and with all meekness.
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
(Eph 4:15)

Generational curses
Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

demon's always lie/ can't tell the truth.
On this one we agree.

rib should have been translated "halfed" in my opinion according to the Hebrew.
Meaning woman is half of man(adam)....not wanting to write a page to show it but the homeworks there to do.
meaning adam was opened and half of him was removed to make Eve.

The phrase "soul-ties" isn't mentioned but it is referenced in cases of sexual immorality.
Study science and look at just about any family lineage and you will see what is meant in Exodus and Ezekiel by generational ties
"God helps them who help themselves" is a biblical principal based in scripture. It's not a blanket statement. There are certainly those whom God helps despite their involvement, but overall we have to cooperate with God wants to do in us and through us.
