Peter says THIS IS THAT.
Speaking of what Joel frames in the LAST DAYS.
Peter says, basically, we are in the last days, ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST. "This baptism in the Holy Ghost with men as drunken, under the power of God and on fire, speaking in tongues,ACCORDING TO JOEL, WILL CONTINUE,until the moon turns to blood.

NOTHING CEASED.
CESSATIONISTS FALSE PROPHETS CEASED.
SO ironic those babblers of antichrist rhetoric accuse the body of Christ as babblers.

It does not say pray on tongues.

It means pray not out of self. But in the spirit. Just like jesus said, anything you pray IN MY WILL. You will recieve. It means to pray out of a giving spirit filled heart. Not out of a selfish heart.
You mistake being edified as a selfish motive. Those lying spirits have had a field day with believers. Keeping Jesus to doctrine rather than a living, moving body connected to Him.

Oh, EG, how would they know if they had received the baptism? You say you aren’t a cessationist, but you are.
Lol. Why would I need to know they recieved the baptism They were baptized into Christ the moment god declared them saved according to the new covenant. Tongues has NOTHING to do with the baptism sis.

I asked for scripture which showed everyone spoke in tongues, Do you have one? (I gave scripture which shows NOT everyone spoke)

If you are praying in the power, is it your words or His?
It still has nothing to do with tongues.

And it is he.. using MY VOICE and MY LANGUAGE praying in the spirit.

As paul said, seek after the things of the spirit. When you do this, is it Gods power or your own?

No. Thats not what I said at al sis. Your reading things which are not there.

Those lying spirits have had a field day with believers. Keeping Jesus to doctrine rather than a living, moving body connected to Him.
So you do not think I live in the power of Jesus.

And you wonder why people are so against your doctrines? They have you thinking you live in power ONLY through certain gifts. That is not true. In this age or any age.

Lets see if pentecost is just some obsolete history of a once powerful God and church;
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

So Joel frames the last days as moon imto blood and the sun darkened...WHICH HAS NOT YET HAPPENED.
Peter framed pentecost in those same last days.
MEANING IT,PENTECOST,WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE MOON TURNS TO BLOOD....
THE LAST DAYS.
YOU CESSATIONISTS ARE BASICALLY ANTICHRIST
Now thats what i am a talkin about.

God rules.
God empowers his church
Jesus ain't dead.

Thank you Jesus for power!!!

The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you!!!
Man i loves it!!

Heal the sick.
And make disciples.

And power to cancel death.

Funny, I say the exact same thing about your posts. Praying in the Holy Spirit is tongues.
I find nothing amusing about doctrinal error. I do attribute it to a lack of good bible discipleship but it is still unsound doctrine. There is simply no support for praying in tongues in the bible. Praying in the or with the Holy Spirit is not praying in tongues. The Holy Spirit comes along side us to help us but the Holy Spirit does not remove us from the equation.

2 Tim 3:1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

That’s not the meaning of edify here. Look at the concordance.
1. (the act of) building, building up, i. q. τὸ οἰκοδομεῖν; as, τῶν τειχἑων, 1 Macc. 16:23; τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ θεοῦ, 1 Chr. 26:27; in the N. T. metaph., edifying, edification, i.e. the act of one who promotes another’s growth in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, happiness, (see οἰκοδομέω, b. β [cf. W. 35 (34)]): Ro. 14:19; 15:2; [1 Co. 14:26]; 2 Co. 10:8 [see below]; 13:10; Eph. 4:29; with a gen. of the person whose growth is furthered, ὑμῶν, 2 Co. 12:19, [cf. 10:8]; ἑαυτοῦ [Tdf. αὐτοῦ], Eph. 4:16; τοῦ σώματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ. ibid. 12; τῆς ἐκκλησίας, 1 Co. 14:12; i. q. τὸ οἰκοδομοῦν, what contributes to edification, or augments wisdom, etc. λαλεῖν, λαβεῖν, οἰκοδομήν, 1 Co. 14:3, 5.

Yes, When God answers our prayers and does mighty works in our midsts, things we witness all the time, it edify’s or builds us up.

Yawn

You legalists are satans puppets. (IE back at ya)

What comes around goes around.
EG

The baptism of Holy Spirit is the sabbath rest. The refreshing. Why? Because we cease doing our works, and pick up His. You, decon, and mailmandan of all people here should be able to see this.

Same thing with our speaking words. Or writing. We cease natural tongues, and speak His perfect language that is above and beyond this world. Being now a Spirit ruled man or woman, rather than the natural man which is fallen.

The REFRESHING REST!

No, It is because the HS has baptised us into Christ, Into his death, and into his body. where we are completely washed, and made clean, and where we who were dead in tresspasses and sins have been made alive-in christ. Through Gods mercy, not through our own works.

And BECAUSE we have been saved completely through this baptism of God we are able to rest. Or stop from our work of continaully trying to match up to Gods standard and having to save ourselves.

"For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified." 1 Cor. 14:2-5

" For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 16 Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer, say “Amen”to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17 You are giving thanks well enough, but no one else is edified." 1 Cor. 14:13-17

This whole chapter is one where Paul points out that tongues are fruitless, not edifying to the church, and that UNDERSTANDING is more important.
Tongues are not fruitless. Paul's explanation to the Corinthians was geared toward the proper use of spiritual gifts, and not meant to discourage believers from operating in God-given gifts! Paul pointed out that speaking in tongues along with someone operating in interpretation provided edification to the church body.

If one wishes to take notice, Paul thanked God that he spoke often in tongues. He shared that he prayed and sang in tongues, thus the experience had to have been edifying to his spirit.

Paul stated specifically that one should not forbid others from speaking in tongues.

1 Cor 14:39
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

1 Cor 14:18
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

Just because some misuse or fake speaking in tongues, and some lack the experience, does not change the fact that tongues is an authentic God-given gift.

Yes, When God answers our prayers and does mighty works in our midsts, things we witness all the time, it edify’s or builds us up.

Jud 1:20 But G1161  ye, G5210  beloved, G27  building up G2026  yourselves G1438  on your G5216  most holy G40  faith, G4102  praying G4336  in G1722  the Holy G40  Ghost, G4151

Building up:

Do you not look at the roots of words? I always do..

G2026
ἐποικοδομέω
epoikodomeō
ep-oy-kod-om-eh'-o
From G1909 and G3618; to build upon, that is, (figuratively) to rear up: - build thereon (thereupon, on, upon).
Total KJV occurrences: 8

G1909

G1909
ἐπί
epi
ep-ee'
A primary preposition properly meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution [with the genitive case], that is, over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.: - about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, [where-]) fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-) on (behalf of) over, (by, for) the space of, through (-out), (un-) to (-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
Total KJV occurrences: 885

G3618
οἰκοδομέω
oikodomeō
oy-kod-om-eh'-o
From the same as G3619; to be a house builder, that is, construct or (figuratively) confirm: - (be in) build (-er, -ing, up), edify, embolden.
Total KJV occurrences: 39

If you look also at scriptures that speak of Jesus doing miracles, you see that He superimposed time, space, order, and rank.

Embolden. To be in the Spirit and using a voice gift...you speak out of heaven, and in the authority of it.

There’s nothing like the gift of prophecy and tongues in this realm we live in.

Or moving in the Spirit to do His work.

I’ve tasted these things and thirst for more. More of You Lord!

Hi stones...
I thought praying in the Holy Spirit was when we do not know what to pray...
Say for example , someone who has just had some awful news , they are numb , in shock , they cannot pray , let alone think , but they are indeed in need to pray to God , but just cannot think , is it not at those times , the Holy Spirit prays for us on our behalf , in groans to deep for us to even know , yet God knows , because God knows what our heart is really feeling at that time of brokeness , the Holy Spirit intercedes for us , nothing to do with us , nor tongues...xox...

So, are you speaking of Mark 16, the longer ending? The verses after verse 8 are not part of the original gospel of Mark. The words are different, the doctrine is different, and the high Christology. While these verses were probably added at the end of the 2nd century, there are too many extant copies from every branch which do not have these verses, for any scholar to take them seriously.

So, if your doctrine hangs on verses which were not there in the original manuscript, it is probably wise not to quote them. But then, there are so few verses referring to tongues anywhere in the Bible, and even Paul states tongues are not important, no matter what the internal manuscript and eternal manscript evidence is, you will choose to believe, in order that your heresy does not fall apart.

Again, I suggested you read the whole Bible, not looking for anything to confirm your doctrine, but just to get to know Christ better, and what he says about how to follow him. If you cannot, then, I go back to my idea that most Pentecostals like you, are stuck in the mud. The whole Bible is revealed truth, and you need to read it, forget about your biases and prejudices, and really learn what the Bible says.

I read the Bible 15 times in the 15 years I was in Pentecostal churches. By the end, I realized I had never heard in church, what I was reading in my Bible. So, I left, went to an Evangelical Free church where I heard what I was reading in my Bible being preached, and then to various Baptist churches as we moved, and I am still hearing what I am reading in my Bible. 24 years of reading the Bible, and hearing it in church. Really, the contrast is stunning. Sad people get so caught up in a side issue, instead of seeking and finding the whole Word of God.
Do you seriously believe that God would allow scriptures specific to salvation to be modified? We are told that everyone will be judged by the words Jesus spoke.

There are bible translations that have altered the meaning of some scriptures. However, I have found through study that not one change has been made to scripture that pertains to salvation. Coincidence? I don't think so.

John 12:48
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

When Jesus was baptised, the Holy Spirit came upon him. This is in addition to the indwelling of Christ within us at salvation.

No where does Paul state tongues is not important. Paul describes the different spiritual gifts. However, for some reason you wish to distort what scripture actually states.
