You did not choose me,but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last.
This is directly applicable to the apostles, who were all specifically chosen by Christ (including the *devil* Judas Iscariot). Even Paul was specifically chosen from his mother's womb.

It is also indirectly applicable to all believers who are APPOINTED OR ORDAINED UNTO GOOD WORKS (FRUIT): For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (Eph 2:10)

This verse has nothing whatsoever to do with election for salvation, since salvation (eternal life) is freely offered to all (John 3:14-17). "Whosoever" means anyone and everyone regardless of all other factors.

Sorry...I disagree.i refuse to get into an argument over it....until God reveals otherwise..I’m sticking with what I believe.
Sorry if it upsets you..but there it is..I have to stay true to what I believe.

Every day of my life is spent following Jesus..he is in my thoughts constantly....we fellowship together.

We must always read the scripture by considering who the speaker was addressing (context)... this is rule #1

What did it mean to that audience.

Charis/Grace: The divine influence upon the heart and it's reflection upon the life (Strong's)

It is by grace, the divine influence upon the heart, you are saved through faith and this faith is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. By the grace, the divine influence of God I am what I am, and his grace, his divine influence, toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace, the divine influence of God that is within me. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace, God's influence, may abound? By no means!

I am a disciple of the Lords he chose me and has a purpose for my life.

I am watching it unfold..a vision I had many yrs ago is about to come to pass....when it does All that Glory will go to God.
Watching that vision come to pass as I type....absolutely amazing....God’s ways are not our ways nor are his thoughts......I stand in AWE of God!

I’m also honoured to be his disciple..nothing greater than following the Lord.

I wonder if we could start a Calvinists thread - not for argument sake - but for edification. Maybe we could then start another thread for debates - as I know people members will want to debate these truths, and I want to keep that dialogue open and honest for them, too. Just thoughts.

:rolleyes::cautious: right cause it has never been done before smh

Read all of John .The Vine and the Branches.

15:16

You did not choose me,but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last.
Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
This is my command:Love each other.
Some are offended by the idea that God chose us. I am not, and I know if He didn’t “quicken” me, I would never have been saved: It is not just that passage that speaks of Him choosing us:

1 Peter 2:9
Verse Concepts
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Ephesians 1:4-5
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
John 6:44
Verse Concepts
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
Romans 8:28
Verse Concepts
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Ephesians 2:10
Verse Concepts
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Ephesians 1:11
Verse Concepts
also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will,
Romans 8:29
Verse Concepts
For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
Romans 8:30
Verse Concepts
and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
John 15:16
Verse Concepts
You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

We have a real living relationship with our Lord...I cannot get enough of him......and not in a dirty way..pure.

Exactly.

I have seen far too many people go off on a tangent about how they have a 'special calling' and God considers them 'special'

As has been pointed out, Jesus was directly addressing His disciples but of course we are included in a general sense and it is a very beautiful portion of scripture!

No use to throw up the flares though because it usually takes years until the light slowly dawns and it becomes apparent they went off the track somewhere.

(Saying the above with no reference to this thread because the last thing I want is to take up with this debate again and the insults, name calling and all that goes with it)

Amen.

That anyone can feel blessed to be chosen while others or doomed to perish without any hope because they are not the select is beyond my comprehension.

If I believed that I doubt I could get out of bed in the morning, and they say they have nothing to boast about... sure.

What concerns me is when Calvinists reject plain Bible truth in order to fit everything into their idea of the Gospel. That means that the doctrines of men are elevated above the Word of God. A very dangerous thing.

I don't agree but I respect your opinion. You do have a point.
yes Christ died for the sins of the whole owrld. Not just the jews but the gentiles also .As amny ad the faith has e given to the Soun will come .If the father does not draw they cannot come .

"As many" is the key or missing link..

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.

It would seem all who do have the treasure hid in their new hearts .If any man has not the Spirit of Christ .then niether do they belong as on of the many

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

See it right here.............

It is biblical. 2 Peter 3:9 is written to the elect. He is patient with "us," not willing any (of "us," those he has chosen) should perish, but that all (same audience and context still "us") should come to repentance. It isn't about the world at large but shows the reason why God has not ended all things as per the context of what Peter is saying . He is patiently awaiting all of his elect, the "us" to come to repentance in time in this age. When all the chosen are gathered in, then the end will come of which Peter is speaking.
Any and all = elect.

Yup, all of this because of who we are in Him, not because He selected some over others.

I bought a couple of decent books about the subject as well as rebuttals and you cannot prove salvation by what you believe

There is something to be said about the simple prayer of a child 'asking Jesus into their heart'
