A person can be saved and lose salvation if they do not maintain that salvation. We still have a choice after we are saved but we allow the Spirit to lead us so we can stay saved. If we cannot lose our salvation it would mean that the choice is gone after we are saved and all we see is good which we know is not true because then there would be no hypocrites.

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity(Matthew 7:21-23).

The 10 virgins.10 people who were living for Jesus.5 made it and 5 did not make it.

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling(Philippians 2:12).

The Bible says you have to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Some people do not work it out and never make the mark.Paul said he strives to get in to heaven and is like running a race to get to the finishing line.

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God(Luke 9:62).

Some people do not strive enough to make it to heaven after they are saved.

I think you have that wrong Matt, once you are saved you are always saved, as has been said before, was the person really born again?

If you sin, how many times do you need to be saved? there are those as I have said before who will have their times in the wilderness but, God will bring punishment on them and He will bring them back.

yes you have to run the race and some will do better than others, that is your sanctification that happens when you are Born again.

Some people are saved because they meant it when they were saved but later on they made the decision to enjoy fleshy pleasures. They still confessed Christ as their Lord but did not do the will of the Father. They lost their salvation because they lived in sin although they still confessed Christ as their Lord.It shows you that you have to maintain your salvation after you are saved and stay in that saved position. It shows you that people can confess as their savior and hold unto that and still not make it to heaven.

Ok I disagree with you. I just hope your not moving into a works based salvation as that is not what James is talking about nor Paul, nor anyone infact.

Anyhow, we will just have to agree to disagree.

Hello Phill,

If it is true, and you say: Is/ was the person really born again.. I think there are some problems with that. If he wasn't really born again... he never got the Holy Spirit. Than I have a question: What mean the writer from the book of Hebrew for example with this text:
6 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has done despite to the Spirit of grace?

When you read this correct you will see..the safety doesn't depend here from the Lord, but from the person who turn their back to the Lord. You can see, he was sanctified... or the Greek word of it is hagi'zo what mean: He was free from guilt.

So the person was born again... if he wasn't he never was free from guilt. Interesting is when you read this part further.. for example vs 36-39

There is written:36 For you have need of patience, that, after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise.
37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul
.

I will explain how I read this: Here is written in vs 36 we need patience,.. In the Dutch translation is written for the word patience the word steadfastness. Or in the State Translation,(the same translation as the KJ)
enduring......

We need patience with steadfastness and enduring to do the will of God. And if we do that.. we shall received the promise..

Because it is a short time and the Lord Jesus is coming back (vs 37)
The just.. or the righteousness will live by faith.. we have to trust.. we have to convict from the truth.. and that is Jesus Christ..(look for the strong translation) We have to confidence in the Lord.. (that is the meaning of the word)

But if any man draw back, (or let Him down is an other translation of that word), my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we aren't drawers that going to our destruction... But we have faith to saving our soul.

But just because someone "meant it" when they said they were saved doesn't necessarily mean that a true repentance and regeneration occured at that time. I maintain that those that appear to lose their salvation were either never saved to begin with, or are being disobedient for a season (in which case they will be chastised by God, sometimes mightily, until they are turned back).

My boss is a pastor, she has a sweet, kind spirit, she devotes her life to doing good in the Church and helping others, she's humble, she's giving, and yet.....she has said things that make it quite clear that she has not had a regenerative experience with the Lord (ie. she's not saved).

Where she stands now, unless she repents before she dies, she is one who God will say, depart from me, I never knew you. And she is definitely an example of what you see is not always what reality is.

"If this verse robs all deliverately sinning believers of salvation, then all are lost; for all believers commit deliberate sins. To understand these scriptures better, we must understand the 'wilful sin' in context of the entire Hebrew epistle. Verse 26 refers to Jews who had come to a head-knowledge of the Messiah and then gone back to ritualistic Christ-rejecting judaism.

Then in v39 the position of true believers is contrasted with these Jewis apostates: "But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition; but of those who believe to the saving of the soul""

The above was from a commentary, I don't have noted which one though.

Hi Laura,..

Thank you for your reply.

In my opinion it isn't about sin. We sin all. But it is talking about the despite or insult the Holy Spirit. And it is with a purpose to insult Him. The act of the person, got to purpose to insult the Holy Spirit. There is a kind of pleasure in it. That is written actually in vs 29 in the word despite... The deeper mention from that word is the Greek word hub'rizo (look at the Strong translation) and that mean: one who injures another by speaking evil of him or, doing violence to some..or even molestation. ( source: Strong translation Dutch and the Greek-Dutch dictionary Harting)

I hope I made some clear by this. :)

That it isn't about believers who are sin: I want to explain by this:

Chapter 11 is what we called in Holland, the Faith chapter..

Everything here is by faith... Through Faith they are righteous. Like is written in Habakkuk
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.

and repeated in Rm 1:7 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith; as it is written: "The just shall live by faith."

and Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith."

Because they are righteous the Lord forgive their sin. Abraham was righteous, because he was doing the will of the Lord. Did he no sin? Yes, he made a lot of sins... But every time there was repentance. And that is needed. David was righteous, but he wasn't sinless... Actually he deserve the death.. but he got repentance, and that made that the Lord forgive him. David was full of repentance, that He hurt the Lord. Not that he was lost.. but He loved Him.

The grace or mercy isn't cheap..it costed the Lord everything...

If we love the Lord, we have repentance because of our sins. And that made that the Lord forgive.. all our sins.. it doesn't matter what it is.. we can always come back to Him.

But if there is no repentance, there is no forgiveness. (see Luc 17:3-4, Act 3:19 Hebr 12:17)

Ok to start of with you have to look at what the text means and not what you have read into it.

Heb. 10:26-39 Warnings against Shrinking Back. The author warns of the impending judgment upon those who willfully reject the faith. Yet his purpose is to exhort the readers in their faith, a faith that he affirms based on their past perseverance.

Heb. 10:26-27 sinning deliberately. Willfully sinning and refusing to repent. after receiving. The author refers especially to people within the Christian community, who have thus heard the truth.

The fact that they go on sinning deliberately even after receiving knowledge of the truth indicates that the people in view are not (and never were) genuine believers; that is, these are people who have never genuinely embraced the gospel in a way that has resulted in a life of faith, obedience, and the bearing of fruit. no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. This could refer to the inability of willful, unrepentant sinners to be restored (see 6:4-6), or more likely to the fact that there is no place for them to turn for forgiveness outside of Christ's sacrifice which they have rejected. judgment.

All people face judgment (see 9:27-28), and apart from Christ's sacrifice his adversaries receive eternal ****ation. These verses, then, function as a means used by God to call genuine Christians to faith, obedience, and perseverance; and, if there is no evidence of fruit in one's life, to challenge such people to give fearful consideration as to whether they are in fact genuine believers.

Someone Born Again of the Holy Spirit in Christ, Struggles with the flesh, that we do. Those who have never really been Born again yet think they are Christian and maybe even act as if they are, live in the flesh they have not the Holy Spirit indwelling them. They have heard the truth of the gospel and been enlightened to it yet they have rejected the truth.

They fool themselves if they thinnk they are Born Again.

I agree with that :)

Maybe I don't understand correct what you meant.. (No, it isn't your fault, I think you write it clear, but it is my fault because my bad English ;))

What I understand what you wrote here is: that you say: The writer is talking about people who weren't Christians at all?

I think you are wrong in this case:

I don't agree with :) Please gave the explanation of vs 26. When you study the book of Hebrew. You can read it is the 4th warning. Why is the writer warning us?
Because we have to know, the Bible is written for the believers. Not for the unbelievers.

For an example: The writer isn't talking to Christians who sin.. But to people who where Christians and now they turn their back to Jesus. The word sin is here translated with the Greek word of hamartanonton.. what means in this kind of form: people who are sinning without repentance.

Even the writer is talking about people who once got the Holy Spirit by faith in Jesus. You can see that at the word epignosis.

In vs 26 is this written: For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins

It is talking about a deep knowledge about Jesus. The same word is written in Col 1:9. But like it is written in 1Tim 2:4
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The word knowledge here is the same word epignosis of the truth.

Look at Tit 1:1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is according to godliness,

The word acknowledging, is the same word: epignonis of the truth .. What in this case mean: The truth of the Holy Spirit...

But I will gave you more (it was an example).. than this Scripture: What I think the writer meant is written in 1Tim 1:18-20

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on you, that you by them might war a good warfare;
Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme

This is interesting: because what for people is Paul talking about? I think we agree that Tim had make a kind of war against falls teaching.. But we need good faith... (and it is by cleaning by the Holy Spirit).
And some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck. So actually there is written: that some doesn't listen any more to the Holy Spirit and have made shipwreck.

Paul gave the warning here in 1Tim 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron

There is not written: from their faith.. but from the faith.. meaning: The trust in the Lord and the gospel.

Back to 1Tim 1:18-20. Because Hymenaeus and Alexander didn't listen to their conscience.. (where the Holy Spirit is talking) they are delivered to satan.. and they blaspheme the Lord..

And with the word blaspheme we are coming back to Hebr10:29.. Where people despite the Holy Spirit.

God bless you...

Hi Laura,..

But if we do as the Lord Jesus Christ has told us to do. Then there is daily repentage for the believer if they turn and say seven times a day then forgive them. Jesus gave His followers a prayer to pray on a daily basis give us this Day, our daily bread. Forgive us of our trespasses/debt. this is to be prayed before we receive any food, assumably first thing in the moring, which would also be asking God the Father to forgive us of our trespasses before we trespass. Jesus covered the repentence part for the believer as He covered all other ground that was needed for those that believe in Him

Pr 3:5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Ok, lets have a look at 1 Timothy 4:1-2:

1 Tim. 4:1–5 Identifying the False Teaching. After his triumphant celebration of the advance of the gospel (3:16), Paul returns to the current challenge of false teaching (cf. ch. 1).

1 Tim. 4:1 The means by which the Spirit . . . says is not made clear. It may have been something the Holy Spirit revealed directly to Paul (cf. Acts 20:29–30) or a prophecy that came through others. expressly. Explicitly, clearly. The later times (Gk. hysterois kairois) in view here clearly include Timothy's day (see the similar phrase in 2 Tim. 3:1).

As is typical in the NT, “later times” refers to the time that began with the outpouring of the Spirit after the work of Christ. Those who hold to the false teaching depart from the faith, which shows that this teaching is outside the bounds of true Christianity. Furthermore, the source of the error is demonic, for these teachers follow deceitful spirits. The false teaching and resultant apostasy are no surprise. God said this would happen, so his church should not panic but should carry on in faithfulness (see 2 Tim. 2:17–19).

(quoted)

When reading Scripture we have to read it in Context, as I said before, we do not read into the text but from the text. that includes understanding what is going on in the letter/book, what was being said and why?

It is very easy to take verses and make them say what you really want to hear. However, you have to have an understanding of the whole.

Your English is Fine Dutch.

your boss is wrong for being a pastor to start with, a woman is not to have authority over man and a pastor is to be the Husband of one wife. but you have made a bigger mistake than her you have judged her into hell. and this is not your place;

Lu 6:37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
She does not believe in some of the most basic tenets of Christianity. She believes that infant baptism saves you, she doesn't believe that God has an intimate relationship with us, she doesn't believe that He tests us and watches over us. I'm not even sure she believes that the Bible is the true inspired word of God, and I could go on and on.

Would you say I am judging a muslim into hell because I point out that they don't believe that Jesus is God? Is it any different just because my boss wears the label of "Christian"? If I follow your logic, then we mustn't say that mormons or jw's aren't saved either because that would be ****ing them into hell.

I would never say to someone's face that they aren't saved, I wouldn't call anyone on here not saved, because it's not my place. I was merely giving an example of what I was talking about.

Was your entire point to meddle and chastise a sister in Christ?

those who thought they were sheep found themselves to be goats, begone unfaithful servant, but but but didnt we cast out demons, you played we dance, didnt we do this and that,Jesus implied "you had no love for your neighbour in need",goats says"but but when" ---- paraphased but we all get the meaning. Have heard sermons on once saved alaways saved and really wonder and am intrigued to what bible they derive that concept of once saved always saved. work our OWN salvation out in fear and trembling, that will bring the wisdom of God, then one can endeavour to overcome knowing they can in Christ Jesus if and only if we abide in Him, His love. Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, He answered Love God with all and to love thy neighbour." Love thy neighbour" isnt in the 10 commandments, however it is the 9 commandments after the first to love God, for by loving God we will love our neighbour regardless, friend or foe.In doing so we wont steal from him, try and sleep with their spouse, covet their belongings or lifestyle etc...... I love Jews, Buddhists, Islamists etc, i wanna be like my Father in Heaven, hmmm stay with Him forever and ever. Then one can be assured of their salvation. Remember, we are blessed in life to be a blessing, not a hoarder. love you all xxx

Born Again to a Living Hope

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him.

Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:3-9 ESV
