Can Believers use gun for the protection ?.

What I got from this is - Americans are paranoid. Their country is not safe, and they hate each other. Thats why they carry guns.

Its actually the opposite.

In places where there is the most gun control, meaning law-abiding citizens aren't allowed to have or carry guns, there is the most violent crime.

In places where law-abiding citizens are allowed to have and carry their guns violent crime is much lower.


I continue to scratch my head wondering why this isn't ABUNDANTLY obvious to everyone. Even those who don't live here.

Distinctions:


In fairness, I did not listen to the video posted by the OP, so I have no idea what he said, and I'm not in a position to agree or disagree.

But we might do well to draw some distinctions regarding this whole topic.


1. We might want to draw a distinction between spiritual warfare with spiritual entities, and ordinary self defense with ordinary humans.

Of course there is overlap between the two, but let's consider some thought experiments.


When you drive through a bad neighborhood, do you lock your door?
This is a type of physical self defense... this is not a spiritual defense using spiritual measures.

So let's not get too self-righteous about all of this.

We all take physical measures for physical safety, on a daily basis.
We don't pray OR lock our door; we pray AND lock our door... we act with prudence in a physical world.


2. We might also want to draw some distinctions between what we do, and do not, consider "reasonable" self defense.

I don't think it's a good idea to walk around with a loaded AK so you can just shoot anyone who offends your sensibilities.
But maybe in extreme situations, like someone breaking into your home and attempting to rape your wife... we might all agree there are times to take SOME KIND of forceful action.... whatever that may be.

So I don't think we want to take the position that no physical defense of any kind is ever reasonable or prudent.

I think we'd just want to say it is contingent on a great deal of prudence: what is absolutely necessary, what is most reasonable and prudent, and what also coincides with the Lords specific leading within our own conscience.

If your wife is being raped in front of you, and you say, "I think I'll kneel down and pray a bit, and just use my spiritual weapons, because goodness, I don't want to hurt that poor bloke" ... well, I don't think either God or your wife are going to feel very honored.

I think that, as much as humanly possible, we should be "harmless as doves" - I think this is crucial to Christian living, but even so, there still remains a "time for every purpose."
Even Christ himself, the lamb of God, will become a lion at the appointed time.


3. I am NOT advocating for violence, or lack of compassion, or inattention to our primary focus on spiritual things... I am only advocating for balanced and thoughtful discussion.

These are emotional issues, for all of us.

Whenever issues are emotional, we need to step back, think about them, and give them more careful consideration.

My answer is: Yes they can.

I dont believe in pacifism. People take the sermon on the mount and run with it, which is great. But you're not a man in my books if you dont defend those who need defending at that time.

In my country nobody wants to mess with the gypsies though, even our women will beat you up We are safe. Who wants beef?

PS: I dont own any guns, nor do I plan on owning any. Its not common where I live. We arent like America, but still top #4 (or 3?) in the world in ownership.
I still think people should be allowed to, if they so please.

I just noticed the preacher is Steven Slanderson, quite a character. I enjoy some of his sermons and have listened to quite a few, but I disagree with him on well everything... He is part of that new independent fundamental baptist KJV-only group. He is that movement's pope basically. Too focused on ho**se*uality that guy, every sermon he just cant help but bring it up. Oy vey!

I grew up about half way between Houston and Galveston up to the 1960's when it was peaceful but it had become a war zone by the time our children were born(5 boys). One night several(?) would be home invaders tried to bust open our front door but I had wedged a dorsal fin from a sunfish sail boat under the door knob and the point dug into the carpet. They tried 3 or 4 times to bust it open and split the frame 2z4 where the deadbolt went through. I had an sks and my wife and kids were huddled together in the bedroom but they gave up and left. I remember praying to God because I really didn't want to hurt anyone but they didn't get in.

We moved to the big thicket in southeast Texas because we didn't want to raise our children in the city. We live in a lake type community but in the back so my backyard is timberland and national forest. When we go to the grocery store we buy enough for a month because it's 41 miles one way so 82 mile round tip. Wild animals are everywhere coyotes,bob cats,jaguarundi, bear, occasional mountain lion alligators,sounders of hogs wild dogs ect.

In the woods everyone has guns but few have ccl we just get a hunting license and carry any legal firearm. It's so common place if you get pulled over and ask if you have guns they don't bother looking at them they just say don't show us yours and we wont show you ours. Other than that a gun is to us a screwdriver or a hammer most of us do our own gunsmith work,revolver timing issues ect.

I never saw to spend a lot of money on a rifle or pistol to hunt with because I noticed that I would pay to much attention to not scratching it walking through the brier and creek beds ect.. Most of them I just bought used,cheapest I could find stripped them down and used regular old gun oil on the furniture.

I don't really care how they look as long as they function(screwdriver,hammer thinking) so if I scratch it who cares,lol. The only one I am really partial to is an old 51 colt bp revolver because I can load blanks,snake shot,conical or round ball ammo in it and so it is versatile as a side arm other than that just old ugly shot guns now days.lol. It used to make me laugh when friends or relatives would come go hunting with me with their new fancy guns they looked like the milk man carrying glass bottles in the woods.

I never really have got into hunting, some of my friends are into it it’s all good I have no view on that but maybe one just don’t kill animals for their horns or something like that,

but even though I like animals I will not blink an eye to to take out a dog running after me. I like the bow hunting concept kind of evens the field man vs beast thing lol, it’s not that easy to shoot a deer with a bow.

I live in a city in sort of a bad section, gun shots almost every night, I’ve been thinking about getting another hand gun for the house or to carry but I haven’t decided yet I don’t know.
