And that - right there - is the crux of the problem. Most Catholics don't read their Bibles because the RCC teaches that their congregants must rely on the Church and her Priests to properly interpret the Scriptures, because the average person "can't understand them" and thus discourages personal Bible reading.

First off Bud, It should first be established, as a matter of historical fact, that the Catholic Church compiled the Canon of Scripture at the Councils of Hippo (393) and Carthage (397). The Douay–Rheims was translated before the King James Version, and the Gutenberg Bible (the first printed Bible) was Catholic. And we can't forget the very important work of Stephen Langton, Cardinal Archbishop of Canterbury, who created the first Bible with chapters and numbered verses. I think it was best summed up by Martin Luther himself, who wrote in his Commentary on St. John: "We are compelled to concede to the Papists that they have the Word of God, that we received it from them, and that without them we should have no knowledge of it at all."

If the Catholic Church discourages Bible reading, then there are millions of Catholics that aren't aware of it. In fact, there would be over 1 billion Catholics that aren't aware of it, because Catholics read more Scripture than most Protestant ecclesial communities. For example, every Catholic Church in the world will be reading the following for this Sunday, Aug.9: 1Kings 19:4-8, Ps. 34:2-3,4-5,6-7,8-9; Eph.4:30-5:2; Jn. 6:51; Jn.6:41-51. These are the readings that every Catholic Church will read this Sunday During the Liturgy of the Word. This does not include the various Biblical phrases found littered throughout the Mass, such as "Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and [I shall] be healed" (Matthew 8:8); The Lord's Prayer (our Father); or the Holy, Holy, Holy (Isaiah 6:3, Revelation 4:8). Those three are just a few examples of Scripture versus that are sprinkled within the Mass. So, from a purely numerical point-of-view, the Catholic Church encourages the reading of the Bible. So much so, in fact, that she has incorporated Scripture as an integral part of her Mass and Liturgy.

The Bible doesn't just have to be presented in word format, though. The Catholic Church has constantly proclaimed Scripture through the use of artwork and stained glass windows. Previous to wide-spread literacy, these would have been the second most common means of learning Scripture.

So you see Budman, your accusations (as usual) that The Catholic Church discourages Bible reading is a baseless one. We hear Scripture read every Sunday, we see the Bible presented in dozens of ways in every Church building, and the Catholic Church has always stressed the importance of personal Bible reading.

I live in a town that is predominately Catholic, and when I drive by their churches on Sunday, I never see anyone carrying a Bible.
So......Not carrying a bible means nothing! Why not pull over sometime and go into one of these churches and find out for yourself?

When Catholics trust their Priests to tell them what the Bible says, and means, it's easy for them to fall into the pit of doctrinal error.
This is a personal opinion.... nothing more.

I have talked to many Catholics face-to-face, and they can only quote a few lines of Scripture (just the ones they hear spoken over and over in church every week), and little else.
The same Scripture over and over??? Thats nothing but a Bald-Face lie! If you'd stop into one of these churches in a course of weeks, you would see the lie you are commiting!

Hmmmm... isn't lying considerd a sin to you?

Why would we have to ask about your relationship with God? I never see you praising God, all i see is you putting the Roman Catholic Church first in your life.

But you are wrong mwc68. Most of the Doctrines you teach and believe in are wrong. Again i ask you why would we need to ask about your relationship with God when all we see are lies from you? We can tell just by listening to what you say and believe in we can tell exactly where you are in your relationship with God.

I do not see a relationship with God in you, all i see is a person who refuses to accept any Truth from God and instead accepts the lies from the corrupted Roman Catholic Church.

How can you say you walk with God when you reject His Truth in the Scriptures? How can you have a relationship with God when you teach the lies of the Roman Catholic Church and put them above God?

You need to humble yourself before God and follow Him only. You are NOT to follow Mary. You are NOT to pray to Mary. You cannot claim to have a relationship with God as long as Mary is your God. You cannot claim to have a relationship with God when you Pray to Mary. You cannot claim to have a relationship with God when you Worship Mary.

The bottom line is its God and God ONLY you are to Worship and follow. Not Mary and God!

Until you reject Mary you will never understand what it means to be a True Child of God.

Its interesting that the Bible with all its books had been in use long before A.D 397! The Bible was complete and was used daily long before the Catholics claimed the Bible was from them.

If the Catholic Church was around when Jesus walked the Earth, then why did it take the Catholic Church so long to decide what Books were in the Bible?

The Catholic Church was not around before A.D. 397!

Like i said, the Catholics are allowed to read the Bible, but they are forbidden to study the Bible! They can read all they want but they HAVE to submit to what The Roman Catholic Church says about what the Bible is saying. In other words the Roman Catholic Church REFUSES to let the Catholics study the Word of God for themselves!

This is how the Roman Catholic Church keeps the Catholics under their power.

By the way fordman, the Roman Catholic Church was not around until the 4th Century! As i see it fordman has no problem with sinning against the Holy Spirit. It was God who established His Church with the Disciples long before the Catholics Church was created by Rome.

So sad to see so much fighting, bickering, and quarreling among all who pride themselves in His name. I see now the reason why Apostle Paul leaves out "knowledge" in 1 Corinthians 13:13:

And now abideth faith, hope, charity (love), these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love).

Let all those who boast of knowledge and insist on their particular understanding of the Bible, take heed as such understanding is partial and will be done away with.

1 Corinthians 13:9-10 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

Why put so much trust in understandings which are imperfect and have caused so much division?

If you love one work toward ravine, you can choose to do nothing or warn them.

If you choose doing nothing, is that mean you love them or hate them.

If you don't care whether they will die, is that love?

Love is warn, doing nothing is hatred.

Seem to me you think love is doing nothing or agree your love one worship demon and go to hell.

Catholic leader bow before Mary statue, God said not to bow before graven image.

Do you believe Mary which catholic make statue is real Mary?

What they call Mary one day teach catholic to wear scapular in order to free them from Hell.

It prove that she is not real Mary. Real Mary will teach only Jesus has capability to free them from hell.

It not real it is demon.

Bow before Mary statue is not respect real Mary. It is disrespect real Mary.

Real Mary love God and do not like people violate God word by bow before graven image.

Ephesians 5:11-12
[SUP]11 [/SUP] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
[SUP]12 [/SUP] For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

Thebesttrees, we are to expose the works of darkness the Roman Catholic Church does to try and control the World. If we do not expose the evil the Roman Catholic Church does, then who will be free from the corruption of the Roman Catholic Church?

This is why God brought His Children out of the Roman Catholic Church. He brought them out to expose the wickedness the Roman Catholic Church was doing in the name of God.

This is why God used John Calvin and others to expose the Roman Catholic Church for their evil.

God clearly says in Ephesians 5:11 that we are not to have fellowship with those who do works of darkness, and we are to EXPOSE those works of darkness they do.

Exposing the works of darkness is not fighting, bickering, and quarreling like you suggest thebesttrees. It is doing the Will of the Father when we True Christians expose the works of darkness the Roman Catholic Church is doing in the name of God!

You know, I actually laughed out loud when I read your first paragraph. The same tired old Catholic assertion that "they" gave "us" the Bible.

I started to answer your post, but then the thought hit me; you are a great evader.

You evade answering the hard questions, instead, letting the thread progress until the questions are buried by posts, and then go after subjects you feel secure in answering.

But guess what?

I'm not answering your posts until you answer what I brought up awhile back - and you avoided like the plague.

To quote myself:

Also, you failed to answer me as to why your Pope would show "respect" for a religion, and a book (Koran) that is literally leading over a billion people to hell. Do you "respect" the Koran and Islam, Ford?
"Respect" being your word as to why your Pope would kiss the satanically inspired Koran.

So, put your money where your mouth is, and answer it. Then we'll move on from there.

Tell us fordman why did Pope Francis say the Muslims are our Brothers in Jesus Christ when even he knows that the Muslims have rejected Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior?

The reason Pope Francis said the Muslims are our brothers in Christ is because Pope Francis is not a True Christian. How can a True Child of God ever say Satan is our brother in Christ?

Pope Francis does not follow God. Pope Francis follows Satan and his teachings. Which now makes the Roman Catholic Church a child of Satan.

The Roman Catholic Church was not created yet when the Cannon of the Bible was established.

This is just another lie from Satan that you Catholics love to deceive the World with.

You are pitting your understanding against the understanding of Catholics. Every understanding needs to wait until the perfect understanding, the perfect knowledge comes. The people at the time of Christ also thought they knew the Scriptures perfectly and yet they ended up crucifying their Messiah! Let us wait. Meanwhile, let us love one another. Theological differences should not get in the way of people loving each other. If you are certain about a truth, express it wisely. If it is accepted, then it has achieved its purpose. If not, it should not be grounds for fighting and causing more divisions.

You have pointed out the word LOVE in 1 Corinthians 13. Why not also point out knowledge, and accept that knowledge as we have it, is partial.

Do you accept that your knowledge is partial? What message does 1 Corinthians 13 give you about KNOWLEDGE?

I agree so much, but also understand their view as well. To them we are just attacking their truth. To most truth is subjective to the person anyway. It's no different than the atheist, us Christians challenge their whole worldview and what they perceive as truth. Same with any group or false religion. The thing is they think they have a right to believe whatever they want and so does everyone else, and “who are we to tell anyone what to believe?”, I know I thought the same way as a professing Christian. They think like "I have my beliefs and you have yours, can't we just let each other alone about it?". It's the assumption that all beliefs are equal, and is the biggest reason most the world hates Jesus so much, and are more tolerant of every other religion in the world. A great example is the “peaceful” religion of Islam and the way so many call for the acceptance and toleration of it while bashing Christians and calling them terrorist for opposing gay marriage in a truly peaceful manner. What they don't understand is how when the Holy Spirit indwells you it reveals the TRUTH of God and His only son Jesus. It lets us KNOW that He is real and that Jesus Christ is the only way to be reconciled to Him.

Most see Christianity as a blind belief we accept despite all the facts to the contrary, they just don’t understand that Christianity is the ONLY belief system that doesn’t require blind belief. I know this because I thought the same way as a “Christian”, I thought Jesus was a great role model of how we should behave, and Christianity was a set of basic rules that if followed would result in a decent life. When you don’t KNOW God is real and you haven’t been regenerated by His undeniable and powerfully amazing grace, then you just think that everyone has a right to believe whatever they want, and would never be arrogant enough to say what “someone else” believes is false. It baffles them why those of us that have been shown the ultimate truth of God would say they are wrong, and they see it as us being hateful, bigoted, and unfair. The thing is once you have this Spirit it WILL lead you to all truth, and when you see others following a false trail you want to warn them, not in hate at all, even though emotions can run high when speaking on this subject, but in love because you know the God that saved you wants to save everyone else as well. It’s just a hard thing to do no matter who you’re talking to.

They are not our brothers in any Christian sense. They are spiritually dead.

You (and your Popes) need to stop equating light with darkness.
