I think it is really good we can talk about these heresies, especially Gnosticism. Because so many people in the media follow New Age beliefs or are in New Age -type cults we do need to learn what it means, and to examine our hearts to see if we have wrongly come to believe in any gnostic type beliefs. I know there are many here that I might not agree with on certain things, but who are very strong in the Lord. So I am certainly not accusing anyone.

But, the words or terms from Gnosticism and other New Age beliefs are so common in Western society. As for me, if I warn only one person (maybe not a member, just a guest reading posts) of the way these words and beliefs have infiltrated our society, and they turn away from them, and towards the real Jesus of Nazaeth, then I feel that is a job well done.

The problem with using words that come out of Gnosticism, or other New Age beliefs, while maintaining faith in Christ, is that it becomes syncretism.

In an earlier post in this thread, someone used a phrase that was very close to "Christ consciousness." I recently made friends with someone with RA, who said he was a monk. So my thought was "Catholicism." Well, no! He lived in an ashram and believed in a variety of religions, including Buddhism and Hindusim. And he said he "believed" in Christ. And that he hoped one day to get to "Christ consciousness." So, I am keeping him as a friend, praying for him to be separated from this insidious sample of syncretism, which takes some parts of the Bible, marries them with a different goal, and different religions in the most syncretistic way. I do not believe the Bible ever says we will be gods, achieving the same level of Christ, who did not study to become an eastern adept or mystic, but instead was God from birth to death and through to his resurrection. Instead, the Bible tells us that God is forming our character, and by following Christ, we can become transformed into his image - but only on the journey in this life not achieving God's perfect goal for our lives until we die, or Christ returns.

"Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is." 1 John 3:2
So here are some definitions of syncretism:

"Syncretism, in this case, is the mixing of Christianity with something else such that they become a different gospel. Syncretism can take place with a postive-thinking gospel, a nationalist emphasis, or emerging culture. Syncretism happens more than we might know. When anything is added to the message of the gospel, the uniqueness and sufficiency of Christ is compromised and another gospel can be created that is, well, actually not the gospel. In this, obscurantism and syncretism are closely related, each leading to the creation of a false gospel."
Avoiding the Pitfall of Syncretism | The Exchange | A Blog by Ed Stetzer

"Syncretism, as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary, is “the reconciliation or fusion of differing systems of belief.” This is most evident in the areas of philosophy and religion, and usually results in a new teaching or belief system. Obviously, this cannot be reconciled to biblical Christianity.

More recently, religious syncretism can be seen in such religious systems as the New Age, Hinduism, Unitarianism, and Christian Science. These religions are a blending of multiple different belief systems, and are continually evolving as the philosophies of mankind rise and fall in popularity.

Therein lies the problem, for syncretism relies on the whim of man, not the standard of Scripture. The Bible makes it very clear what true religion is. Think on just a few things stated in Scripture: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:37); "Jesus replied, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 14:6); "Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name" (John 20:31-32); and “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

Religious syncretism is simply not compatible with true Christianity. In fact, any modification to biblical law and principle for the sake of a “better” religion is heresy (Revelation 22:18-19)."

What is religious syncretism?

Because we have the accuser of the brethren defaming us and Jesus is our defense(I.e; Advocate).
What a cop out, Jesus is pleading to God to forgive our confessed repented sins.
We do have an accuser of the brethren., But we also sins and have an Advocate with the Father, [Jesus]

Amen....Jesus says "I purchased them with My blood and their sins are forgiven"....this makes us want to live holier lives then ever. He who has been forgiven much - loves much.

We love the Lord Jesus for what He has done for us! The true knowledge that our sins have been forgiven makes us want to be who we are in Christ - new creations - created in righteousness and holiness.

When I finally saw that all my sins were forgiven in Christ - my life changed dramatically and my love for the things of the Lord increased to a never ending astonishment of what He has done for us because of His great love.

Grasping this grace of Christ spiritually releases the empowering aspect of grace to take effect in our lives.

Your sins aren't forgiven, Not until you confess them and repent, Then Jesus will plead with God for your forgiveness and cleansing.

Christ consciousness to me is being more focused on Christ than anything else.

Jesus the Son of God was more focused on what the Father was saying and doing than anything else. And He is our example. I believe we truly are sons. And He was the first born of many sons and daughters.

Romans 8:39 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

We have been destined to be conformed to the image of His Son. We do not yet know what we will be like, but when we see Him we shall know Him as we are fully known. This IS from God's point of view in His Son.

And Paul pressed onward for this upward calling in Christ. To lay a hold of what Christ already laid a hold of for him. He did not say he ever arrived, but he still pressed forward to the prize forgetting all the past.

12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

We are called to grow up, not be babes in Christ. To press on toward what Christ has already done for us. He has made us His own. It's finished, but we press forward, growing up in Christ. Let us be mature and think in this way to press forward to the upward call in Christ.

We might have an issue with words like self-awareness, growing up, etc. But to me Scripture is clear:

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ

What does growing up into Christ look like? I don't know. :) But what I do know is that I want to press on for the prize just as Paul did. And I want to know Him as I am fully know. Call it Christ consciousness if you want, but I want to know Him. And I want to grow up in Him. Jesus said when we become reborn we shall see the Kingdom. I believe what we focus on is important. No matter what name we call it, I can not detract from Scripture calls me to do.

But - I am apart of His Body, we each are a part, with a different relationship with Him, different understandings so I need everyone of you. You all have something I do not have. We are lead by the Spirit of God. He is our teacher. And He alone can ensure we stand or fall, and He will do so because He is faithful. He desires us to be one as He and the Father are one.

The Pharisees challenged him on this at every level. How can you say you are one with the Father? You make yourself into God! And He was crucified even though He told no lie. Today the same thing can happen, if we believe Scripture, we can be taken as arrogant or naive, unlearned and unskilled, but we must be like little children to start. We must agree with what Heaven says and then from there we can begin to grow into Christ, which is seeing the heavenly reality manifest here on Earth.

And Jesus said to His disciples here then is how you should pray...

Matt 6:9 “Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Let us pray this unceasingly. But we must know what His Will in Heaven is (as written and given as rhema by His Spirit) and then we can agree (amen) and pray for it to be so here. I believe this first starts with agreeing what He says about us. Even when it needs faith to see it like He does.

Maybe a better term would be "Christ-focused" instead of consciousness in order to help those that are stuck in New Age junk?

I like to use the term "Christ - conscious" which I mean to be conscious of Christ Himself and what He has done and to be acutely aware of our union with Him.

Conscious to me also means to be awake instead of unconscious.

There is the scripture that says to "Awake to righteousness and sin not"...I love the word "awake"...it means to "come to yourself" - "to sober up to who you are".

...and all these things are of God who has made us to be in Christ - wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption.

conscious - definition.

adjective: conscious

  • aware of and responding to one's surroundings; awake

Lets talk about Christ consciousness.

Col 3:1If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your[SUP]a[/SUP] life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Christ consciousness.

Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your minds on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.

Christ consciousness.

Romans 8:5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

Christ consciousness.

Matt 16:23 But Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

Christ consciousness.

Phil 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

1 Co 2:2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

I don't care what name we give it. Scripture is clear. Our focus is important. I'm waiting my Savior from heaven, not from Earth. I have my mind set on Him and on His Spirit.

Matt 6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your vision is clear, your whole body will be full of light.

Cee, I think you need to find some better terms to discuss your relationship with Christ! Just google it and see what you come up with. Here are some things that I found. Please notice that Christ Consciousness means striving to be an Ascended Master, just like Jesus!

""Jesus was a perfect Spiritual Being, a direct extension/manifestation from the ONENESS that is the God/Goddess Energy, having a human experience - just as we all are perfect Spiritual Beings having a human experience."

"This Master Teacher was known as Jesus the Christ. The man Jesus was a perfect child of the Goddess and God energy - just as we all are perfect children of the God-Force!

This messenger added the most powerful ingredient to the process. He brought us our secret weapon. He taught Love. He carried the message of a Loving God."

"What really made Jesus so special was that he was able to be enLightened in a time when the inner channel to Christ Consciousness that all humans possess was blocked by planetary conditions."

"The coming of this Master Teacher 2000 years ago was a milestone in the journey that marked a great acceleration in the process of moving back to alignment with the Light within.

This Master Teacher was known as Jesus the Christ. The man Jesus was a perfect child of the Goddess and God energy - just as we all are perfect children of the God-Force!

http://joy2meu.com/Jesus.htm

Wow! God/Goddess energy? A perfect Spiritual Being? (In caps!), just as we are all perfect Spirit Beings? God force? The inner channel blocked to Christ Consciousness blocked by planetary conditions? Creepier and creepier!

Now I remember why it is so important to understand why we should NOT be using these terms. Not only are the NOT found in the Bible, but they are a very twisted New Age Religion.

"Oftentimes, when individuals hear the terms "Christ" or "Jesus," right away they may fall into preconceived notions based upon their upbringing or particular religious background. Throughout history, the perspectives people have had on the life and teachings of Jesus have been varied, oftentimes even at odds. Sometimes individuals involved in so called "new age" philosophies or comparative religious studies have decided that Jesus was "just a teacher." Was he only a prophet? Others have decided to disregard him altogether. Members of non-Christian faiths may have ignored his life and ministry. Was he a man who committed blasphemy by thinking himself a God? Others may have said, "Well, Christians have been cruel to me and therefore I'm not interested in Jesus." Even among those who call themselves Christian there is not complete agreement about the meaning of Jesus' life and work. These disagreements have resulted in dozens of denominational factions, charges of heresy or breaking away from the faith, and countless wars. The Edgar Cayce material, however, offers an approach that suggests there is a way of looking at Jesus' life in a manner that unifies all of humankind rather than dividing it."

"Because of our focus on the material things in life, much of humankind has forgotten its true birthright as a child of a loving God. From Cayce's perspective, we are not simply physical bodies, instead we are spiritual beings who are having a physical experience entailing personal growth and development. Many individuals have incorrectly assumed that the goal of being in the earth is to simply reach heaven, find enlightenment, or somehow "get out of the earth." And yet, this is a perspective quite different from that contained in the Cayce material. Instead, Cayce believed that as children of God, our mission was to somehow bring
spirit into the earth.

The dynamics of our deep and literal connection to God can be found throughout scripture, beginning with Genesis when we are told that God made humankind in the Creator's image. But our relationship with God as our Parent is perhaps no more clearly illustrated than in the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-24). This parable describes the journey of the soul: we were with God in the beginning, through the power of our free will we were able to make choices that were not necessarily in perfect accord with the Creator. And, at some point, we will "arise" and decide to return to God, regaining our inheritance and experiencing our true relationship with Him. One of the readings beautifully describes the spiritual nature of humankind in this way:
"For ye are a corpuscle in the body of God; thus a co-creator with Him, in what ye think, in what ye do." Edgar Cayce Reading 2794-3
"

his transformative power of the Christ Consciousness is awakened as individuals act in accord with the pattern set by the example of Jesus' life. In fact, this awakening is the essential purpose for which each soul enters into life: In terms of how this Christ Consciousness could unfold in an individual's life, one person was told.

"From Cayce's perspective, Jesus is the Elder brother for all of humankind, deeply committed to assisting all souls in reawakening to the awareness of their oneness with God. This Jesus is not interested in religious conversion, denominationalism, or even mighty personal accomplishments. Instead, He is simply interested in how we treat one another. With this in mind, even in the midst of our diversity as a human family, we share a common spiritual heritage. We are all Children of the same God. We are all part of the one spiritual Source. And, we are all destined to return to our Creator, our Mother/Father, our God.
Adapted from: Twelve Lessons in Personal Spirituality by Kevin Todeschi.

Edgar Cayce A.R.E. The Christ Consciousness

Edgar Casey is known for seances and astral travel. It may be he was the one who coined the term "Christ Consciousness." This is a gnostic term, which simply cannot be redeemed by Christians. Unless you want to believe that we are co-creators with Christ, or that the "Christ PATTERN!! exists in the potential in all of our being, and that Jesus is an older brother, not a Saviour and Lord.

That is why using these phrases are so dangerous! Because these people mix a bit of Scripture with their outlandish heresies, and Christians can be enticed into the snare of darkness and evil.

"The term Christ consciousness has gained popularity in recent years as celebrities and public figures claim that they have “found truth” in this form of spirituality. Those championing this idea sometimes call themselves Christians; however, their definition of the word Christian is far different from the biblical meaning. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ is used as a means of normalizing a religion which is nothing more than rebranded Eastern mysticism.

The Center for Christ Consciousness website defines Christ consciousness as “the highest state of intellectual development and emotional maturity.” They go on to claim that “Jesus achieved this [higher state of being] in his human life, and was given this term [Christ] before his name as the recognition of his achievement of this spiritual status. This path is open to anyone regardless of their religious tradition if and when he or she is open to become a living vessel of love and truth on the planet and actively strives to attain it.” Another site defines it this way: “Christ consciousness is the state of awareness of our true nature, our higher self, and our birthright as children of God.” It does not take much research to uncover the ancient roots of this idea. It is the same man-centered philosophy that is behind most religions.

So-called “Christ consciousness” has been known by various names in history, such as Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and most Eastern mystical religions. More recently, Deepak Chopra has popularized the “christianized” version of this same pseudo-spirituality. The danger in this latest version of mysticism is the use of Bible verses and Christian terms, which can easily lead astray those who don’t check the Scriptures for themselves."

"
The basic premise of mysticism is that man can, within himself, transcend physical existence and experience his own goodness as being “one” with the universe, being a god, or existing on whatever higher plane he chooses to believe in. The name of Jesus is merely used as a prop in this latest version of the same idea. Jesus is seen as the “leader” in showing us how to exalt our own inner goodness and, in doing so, make ourselves right with whatever deity we choose to acknowledge. Christ consciousness groups claim that Jesus earned the title “Christ” by perfectly channeling the divine consciousness we can all attain, and they attempt to attribute this philosophy to the Lord Jesus. Those championing this ideology are merely using the name of Jesus as a means of worshiping themselves. They desire to find absolution without repentance, confession of sin, or acknowledging Jesus’ substitutionary death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)."

http://www.gotquestions.org/Christ-consciousness.html

Again, I say that using a term like this is teaching an horrific heresy! We do not mix Edgar Casey and the Bible, although he obviously thought he could get away with it!

so why, are you mixing other teaching, to what you can read (your self)in plain view in the bible.

without using someone elses religion as goal posts.

this also should be a warning to others who want to find weed, when you have a personal relationship . etc
Matthew 7: Judging Others
1 "Judge not, that you be not judged.2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Cee,

You have defined "Christ consciousness" using scripture, so I absolutely understand how and why you are using these words.
These words have meaning that can be helpful to our understanding, perhaps like the word Trinity, coined by Tertullian.

When I have read any new age writings it is so obvious they are talking about a Christ that is not in scripture, it is all about context. Is the word "consciousness" an evil word, I think not, not anymore evil than the word cognitive.

The writers in the occult world love to use our word "light" which John in the Gospel uses.
But we understand that they, the occultists, are referring to something very different because of context.

Carry on Brother I love reading your posts!

That's true...they do use the word "light". Another word that got hi-jacked is "meditate". If you use the word meditate in some Christian circles - they think you are New Age.

Love is another word that has been hijacked by some strange groups.

Even to some that profess to be Christians the words "born again" are rejected as not being true for the believer in their new creation in Christ - the new spirit of the person.

It seems this day any word we use that the enemy has twisted into something else has the potential to throw us off. I'm sure if we use a term and then define what is meant by it - then that should suffice.

Perhaps though in dealing with new Christians that have come out of New Age backgrounds we should be more careful when using some terms to make sure what is actually meant when talking about spiritual realities.

Of course to the natural mind of man (whether they are true Christians nor not) - all spiritual truths in Christ ( like the new heart, righteousness, union with Christ in our spirit..etc ) are going to seem "mystic" ( term used in a bad way ) and "gnostic" in some form or other.

I absolutely agree, there are associations with words that can be problematic, I have seen this when witnessing to someone from new age, occult and cults.

I see it on the message board sometime times too! Lol

I also know it can be helpful to define the terms. Which I have also seen on the message board. Lol.

Satan does like to get in there and mess things up so I guess it is about context and knowing your audience.

Whenever talking about spiritual things I can see we might be misunderstood. The enemy is a counterfeiter. I appreciate hearing everyone's viewpoint. And the Lord has used it also to give me greater clarity and better language. What's interesting to me is that 2/3 of our being is unseen. We can not see our spirit or our soul. Scripture says the unseen is a superior reality. And I believe this connects us into setting our minds of Christ, the Spirit, and heavenly things. He resolved to know nothing, but Christ. I believe these are all unseen things that can only be seen through the eyes of our heart, also known as faith, the conviction of these unseen. If we say the Spirit t teaches us people might assume we are deceived. Even though Scripture tells us He is our teacher. And that His Sheep know the Lord's voice which is what He declares. If we say we are new creations people might assume we are naive because our bodies are not new. If we say we follow an invisible God people might assume we are crazy. But if I do not say these things I am not speaking truth nor the gospel. Many thought the Name of Jesus was not of God. They ridiculed and punished the disciples because of the problems caused by speaking His Name. Today if someone discusses healing through the stripes of Jesus they are ridiculed. But if people do not know, how can they receive? Darkness does not control my agenda, the Lord controls my agenda, we do not bow to a spirit of fear, and we are not conformed by the world. There are many truths that have been distorted, but the only real Truth is Jesus. And He is the Way, He is the Life, and He is my Truth. Words are important, but the Kingdom of God is not of words, but of power. And I trust that He shall guide me and direct me. If He chooses to reclaim these words who am I to question Him? They might use our words, like the sons of Sceva, but the power of God will not back them, but He will back us. That being said I will pray if He wants to give me new words for His Scripture truths I am open and willing. But I will not react to the schemes of the enemy, I will respond to the voice of my Lord.

Having exited (praise God) a dark world of distorted truths you words are really speaking to me because of the Power behind them!

Whatever words we use, it is the Power of God that will convict, exhort, teach and so forth.

Beautiful!

Thank you

1 Corinthians 3:4
For when someone says, I am of Paul, and another, I of Apollos, are you not men of flesh?
5*What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Ministers through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to each one of them.
6*I planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth.
7*So then neither is he who plants anything nor he who waters, but God who causes the growth.
8*Now he who plants and he who waters are one, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
9*For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s cultivated land, God’s building.
10*According to the grace of God given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid a foundation, and another builds upon it. But let each man take heed how he builds upon it.

James 3:15
This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, soulish, demonic.
16*For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there disorder and every worthless practice are.
17*But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, forbearing, compliant, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, without hypocrisy.
18*And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Hebrews was written to...are you ready for this bit of news?...to the Hebrews! Shocking isn't it?...such a strange name.

To the Jewish people and it would have been read in places where there were believers and unbelievers. There are believers and unbelievers in just about every congregation.

The writer of Hebrews ( There's that name again - Hebrews ) was addressing everything to do with temple sacrifices...comparing Jesus with the old covenant....showing how Jesus priesthood was so much better then Aaron's....how the blood of Jesus made believer's sanctified completely in Him.....etc.

There are lot's of commentaries and teachers that say believers in Christ are safe in Him and say that about Hebrews 10. I know this goes against your religious beliefs and it angers you but you'll just have to let it live with it.
Hebrews 5:8-14 (KJV)
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; [SUP]9 [/SUP]And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; [SUP]10 [/SUP]Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. [SUP]11 [/SUP]Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. [SUP]12 [/SUP]For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. [SUP]13 [/SUP]For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. [SUP]14 [/SUP]But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Written to a church, whether Jew, gentile, or mixed..... it's still to a church..... not unbelievers.

0 Bible results for “Christ consciousness.”
From Biblegateway.com

You can say what you want, believe what you want, but Christ consciousness is a New Age term which perverts who Christ is and what he came to do.

So tap dance away, but this term is NOT Biblical. In context, Christ Consciousness is simply not in the Bible - anywhere. In fact, even the word - consciousness is only found in the Bible once, in relationship to sins.

"Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins?" Hebrews 10:2

It is becoming obvious that there are some people in this forum who would defend their need for anti--biblical terms and theologies, in spite of what the Bible says about these things.

Which leaves me really wondering, do they understand what Christianity is, or is it just some get out of hell free card, in which you do not have to leave "conforming to the world" (Romans 12:2) behind, and you can add any new age, or Hindu or Buddhist philosophy that tickles the ears, to the mix?

get out of hell free card,
No such thing as a "Get Out of Hell" free card.

Jesus Christ paid dearly for our sins at a cost we will never understand.

One of the worst expressions ever coined by whomever, which completely denigrates the free gift of salvation that is in Jesus.

Beware of the "straw-man!"

A straw-man approach, or argument, is a tactic often described as a logical fallacy. It is the practice of presenting a simplified and often inaccurate summary of an opponent's views, then attacking that summary and concluding that you have thereby won the argument.

The problem with it is that the presenter usually does not accurately represent the opponent's views,
so what he is attacking is actually a "straw-man", not the actual thing itself.

In the so called hyper-grace arena.....here is an example of the above "straw-man" technique in action.

...people against the grace of our Lord Jesus talked about here will say.."..the hyper-gracers say you don't have to repent and you can do whatever sin you want!" (
this is their straw-man )

Everyone knows that Christians need to change their mind and turn to Jesus....everyone knows that sinning is wrong and will destroy us....which is why Jesus came to save us from sin
. ( This is their attack on the straw-man )

Thus the "straw-man" is killed off and so their original premise shows the validity of their argument.

This is not even remotely the truth. In real life no believers in grace says we don't change our way of thinking to line up with God's nor is it ok to sin all you want.

It doesn't matter how many times we say that grace is not a licence to sin. It is what some people hear.

What is happening is that people are "hearing" something else other then what is actually being said by believers in the grace of Jesus as outlined in the word of God.

Another thing is that it's the definitions of the words that throws people off because a word meaning in their mind is tied to their religious beliefs of the meaning of a word.

I have a question to the hypergracers out there..... Now, for the sake of argument, let's say you're right. Since you believe that a once repentance for everything gets you saved..... & stay that way, no matta what..... WHY are you sooo obsessive to get us to believe it since we ALSO repented once (at least), & accepted Christ? The way I see it, you have no need to argue at all, because we're ALL SAVED either way we believe, & those who believe from either of our witnessing would be genuinely saved.

What then IS your argument? As I see it, you're wasting your time arguing with SAVED PEOPLE bound for Heaven. Why argue your doctrine is right & ours is wrong when either, according to your doctrine, would truly save?

It seems to me that the real strawman has just been exposed.:)
