Where did you get this definition? I've never even heard this
Including the passage truthhurts provided, notice each of these passages speaks about grace...

"And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.” (Acts 4:33)

Grace is a utility for God's witnesses.

“… but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)

Grace can be grown.

“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 2:1)

Grace is a strength.

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)

Grace is a resource for doing good works.

“I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:4-8)

Gifts of God come from God's grace.

“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” (Ephesians 4:7)

Grace is Christ's gift.

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith …” (Romans 12:6)

Grace is to be actively used.

As God's co-workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. (2 Corinthians 6:1)

This is why Grace can be received in vain (i.e. not used).

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:10)

Grace is many-fold.

And the most pronounced passage that defines grace for me is...

8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
(2 Corinthians 12:8-10)

Grace is God's strength.

-------

So Grace is the divine power of God that Christ had in full during his ministry, which is offered to anyone who will choose to *use* it now to live righteously, soberly, to say "no" to sin and to witness for God.

Titus 2.11-15

[SUP]11 [/SUP]For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, [SUP]12 [/SUP]instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, [SUP]13 [/SUP]looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, [SUP]14 [/SUP]who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.[SUP]15 [/SUP]These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Grace is just not a saving grace...there is also enabling/empowering/restraining grace as the above passage refers to.

All we hear about today is saving grace and it drowns out the truth of enabling/empowering/restraining grace....One cannot understand this truth unless they are understand the realities of the new creation they are in Christ Jesus....
While this is true, One can not mix grace with something, and make it something it is not.

The empowering truth of grace is our eternal destiny,, If we know God loves us unconditionally, we are empowered to keep moving forward. Even when we fail.

My power to obey God does not come from the law. It comes from the cross..

Position in Christ Jesus is not the law...the only thing found at the cross is the shedding of blood for forgiveness of sin....empowering grace is found when Jesus gives you your divine identity....you find your divine identity at the tomb , since you raised with Christ....empowering grace moves you to divine destiny here on earth and not eternally......eternity is overcoming and enduring all.....Empowering grace is activated when you fully realize who you are in Christ....

Peter went through this with Jesus it is a truth many cannot comprehend....until they take Jesus off the cross and come to understand he is not on the cross, or in the tomb, he sits at the right hand of the Father......

Grace is so much more than saving you from hell.....

If our eternal destiny is not assured, we can have no empowering grace on earth. We are obligated thus to law, not grace, because our eternal destiny is still in question. It still must be iron d out, or earned or whatever.

Our devine identity is with Christ, as the scripture says as Jesus lives, we live also, since he will not die, we will not either, (he gave us that promise himself in John 3 and 6.)

we are empowered when we know our identity as you said, we have an inheritance guaranteed Eph 1-2. We know Christ has our back, we are then able to endure all things here on earth with the powers knowing I do not have to take care of myself, my lord has my back, and even if I die, I will live. Thus, as Paul said, he considered all pain and suffering g a momentary light affliction, why? To be absent from the body is to be present from the lord.. If I die, I am most blessed, if I live then I am blessed, as long as God can use me in this situation to serve others and bring them to him.

again, if we are not eternally secure, this will not happen

“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 2:1)

Grace is a strength.
this means we should be strong because His grace is with us. His active love and mercy sustains us.

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)

Grace is a resource for doing good works.
Because His grace, His unmerited love and favour, abounds towards us, that is why we have sufficiency, you

Gifts of God come from God's grace
.

The unmerited favour of God was given us in Christ Jesus, thus He enriched us. The gifts were secondary, and followed

“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” (Ephesians 4:7)

Grace is Christ's gift.
the gifts of grace are. They show His grace towards us.

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith …” (Romans 12:6)

Grace is to be actively used.
no the gifts which God gave us in His grace have to be actively used.

As God's co-workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. (2 Corinthians 6:1)

This is why Grace can be received in vain (i.e. not used).
We receive God's grace in vain when we do not respond to HIM.

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:10)

Grace is many-fold.
lol it is manifold.

And the most pronounced passage that defines grace for me is...

For when I am weak, then I am strong.
(2 Corinthians 12:8-10)
God meant that He would provide in His unmerited love and favour all that Paul needed.

Grace is God's strength.
The grace of God is with him and HE is therefore his strength,

-------

So Grace is the divine power of God that Christ had in full during his ministry, which is offered to anyone who will choose to *use* it now to live righteously, soberly, to say "no" to sin and to witness for God.
You are confusing the gifts of grace with grace itself. The grace of God is God acting in unmerited favour on our behalf, sometimes by giving us gifts.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is His unmerited love towards us, not an 'it' which He bestows upon us...

If God already knows our hearts and minds, why is it necessary to ask forgiveness at all? He already knows whether we're remorseful or rebellious..

Getting on your knees before God and seeking his forgiveness displays humility. It's type disrespectful imo if people have the mentality of he knows so im not going to address it with him

Sooo, on some of the sin and salvation threads, there is some question/debate about whether we need to repent of our sins daily/when we do them, or if repentance is a one-time occurence after we get saved, since Jesus died for all sin. Some believe we need to repent each time we sin. Others think we don't need to repent time and again, because Jesus paid for ALL sin, past, present and future.. What say you all? Please keep it civil, no fighting or name-calling, and provide scripture to back up your views. :) Thanks..
When I first got saved, I did not fully repent of every sin I've ever committed. That is work-based salvation. Do not get me wrong, sins should be repented of, but it is not part of salvation. We should turn from all sin in our lives.

Salvation repentance is not about repenting of sins (plural), but it is about repenting of sin (singular). We find out which sin to repent of to be saved in John 16. The sin is unbelief in Jesus Christ. To be saved, one must turn from the sin of unbelief and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation. A person gets righteousness by trusting Jesus Christ, not repenting of individual sins or any other works.

John 16:7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged."

Salvation repentance is defined in Acts 20:21. The repentance here could not mean repent of sin because it says "repentance TOWARDS God", which means to turn toward God and believe on Jesus Christ by faith.

Acts 20:21 "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."

If we do sin we have to be sorry for doing that sin,and not want to do it again, for it to be washed away. The Bible says if a person willfully sins, there is no more sacrifice for sins, because if a person holds unto sin the blood of Christ cannot wash it away, for God will not forgive you of a sin you hold unto.

Jas 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Jas 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

This is addressing the saints, for it is talking if any of the brethren err,and they stop the folly of their ways,it shall hide a multitude of sins.

We need to understand that there are 2 dimensions (heaven andthe world) and sin works differently in each:

On the aspect of salvation (heaven), forgiveness is a once-for-lifetime event, and the power of sin has no effect on it. God will keep you for as long as youstay, and regard you as pure no matter how dirty you get. In this aspect oncesaved your sin exists no more, even the ones you commit post-salvation.

But in the world, the power ofsin is that if you submit your flesh to a spiritual authority thru sin, yourflesh is submitted to that spiritual authority... until you confess and rebukeit. That is where daily repentance comes into play in the life of the believer.

So no, we do not have to confess our sins daily to maintain oursalvation. But we do need to confess and repent daily to disentangle ourselvesfrom the powers and principalities of the world.

Simple realities
1. Each sin commited needs to be identified and repented of. It maybe the same sin
commited lots of times, you repent of the deed which covers all occurences
2. Confess you sin and you will find forgiveness, is written to believers who fall into sin
therefore applies to all believers who fall into sin and it is not a one time event.
3. The goal is a righteous walk empowered by the love of Christ. This takes time and
effort and is not arrived at overnight.

Put these 3 together and you have discipleship and faithfulness, sanctification and
transformation. It will vary between believers but abandon this and you abandon Christ.
It is what discipline, rebuke and pruning is all about. And this walk and process probably
goes on into eternity.

If a person holds unto a sin,and does not want to give it up,saying you are sorry for the sin,and repenting does no good, because the person is not truly sorry, neither did they truly repent, which is to turn away from sins, not wanting to do them.

The same as if a person does not allow the Spirit to lead them, and abstain from sin by not wanting to sin,Church does not benefit them if they want to hold unto sin, unless that Church can convince the person of the folly of their ways, but they probably attend that Church, because they do not stress abstaining from sin.

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

When Jesus addressed the 7 Churches in Revelation, the things that were wrong that they were doing,Jesus told them to repent.

Jesus Himself told the saints to repent, and get back on track, which these are saints that have been saved, and Jesus told them to repent of their error, and get back on track. These saints were already doing right at one time, but were in error, and Jesus told them to repent.

He did not tell them go about your business, for My blood covers it,and you need not worry about it,but Jesus said, repent.

And that is because some people may live in sin,not want to give it up,and not really be sorry for it,and they are not sorry for it,for if they were truly sorry for the sin, they would not do it.

Pro 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Also they do not fear the LORD.Jesus said repent of your sins, and anyone that lives in sin, holds unto sin,and does not want to give it up,they are not truly sorry for their sins, have not repented of their sins, for you cannot hold unto sin,and do it,repent,do it,repent, for that is not repentance, and they do not fear the Lord.

You cannot sin, repent, sin, repent, for that is not repentance, and how much worse for people that believe that do not have to repent of all if they sin,or hold unto sin,and if they do not repent they do not want to give up the sin,and make the excuse we do not have to repent.

There are many people that make excuses for their attitude, lifestyle, and way they should believe, because truthfully they want to sin,and believe it does not affect them.

Yes I agree it is for our benefit.

If we sin and know that we have sinned this can present a problem for us/in us.

Two things happen.

The Holy Spirit will convict us and the devil will condemn us.
This produces two emotional responses, one being a sorrow for doing wrong and the other will be guilt.

Alas we tend to focus on the guilt that comes from condemnation rather than the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit.

If we do this then we put up a barrier that stops us coming before God, or if we do come before God it is a time full a guilt and it's not a fruitful time.

First of all it is us that put up the barrier and not God, secondly God does not condemn us, thirdly having placed our sins on Jesus he then remembers them no more.

When Jesus said it is finished and he gave up his last our sins were forgiven and the barrier between God and man was removed.

Hebrews 8:12-13
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Matthew 27:50-51

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom;

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:1-2
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

So I we remember the above we can come before God, confess our sin, thank him we are forgiven and ask for help.

This removes our guilt/condemnation and restores the relationship with God from our side.

Unfortunately, no Christ's sacrifice on the cross did not take care of future sins. Sins are "acts of crime against God"; "works unto death". To have something cover a future crime is creating a license to commit that crime in the future. Christ told folks to stop sinning after they were forgiven of the sins they *previously* committed. Notice the following passages...

Today Jesus Christ is the mercy seat of God "ie" (our propitiation), in where we approach it having no guile therein

John 5:14
Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."

John 8:11
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Matthew 9:6
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Also, notice Christ was *already* forgiving peoples' sins personally long before he went to the cross because he was given the authority to do so from the Father as the true high priest. But his sacrifice on the cross provided the blood to accomplished a very important task related to forgiveness of sin...

Leviticus 16:2
2 And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

...Because God is holy, the way to his heavenly throne was blocked by us because of our filthiness of sin. So pure blood was needed to cover the throne SO THAT WE COULD APPROACH like only a priest could (once his own uncleanness was covered by the blood, and only on a specific day of the year). Prior to that, we could not BOLDLY approach the throne OURSELVES to do only what the priest could do as our representative, which was "ask forgiveness for sin".

So what Christ was previously doing one...person...at...a...time...could now be accomplished for MANY and WHENEVER necessary because he's now a high priest who's everlasting, in heaven. He offered his blood once for all (people) who would take advantage of it. This did not end the process of a person seeking God's forgiveness for sin. People still have to seek God's forgiveness for their future sins they commit. But what Christ did is streamline the process and open the door for us, so that we no longer had to:

1. Go to the temple in Jerusalem (which many of us today could never afford to do)

2. Offer up a sacrifice (which many of us don't know how to do)

3. Kill that sacrifice as payment (which would turn many of our stomachs)

4. Sprinkle or pour the blood (which was only a placeholder anyhow and could never really cleansed because it's animal's blood)

Again, WE could now BOLDLY COME before the throne to obtain MERCY (for our sins we commit; i.e. forgiveness) and GRACE (i.e. divine empowerment to live righteously to eventually stop sinning). This is why James says...

1 John 1:8-10
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us

The way has been made open by Christ for God to forgive all people's sin in a new and living way; a way to reconcile the world TO him, not him TO the world. We still must reconcile with God (i.e. ask for forgiveness when we do sin). Our slate is cleaned once we first come to him asking for forgiveness in faith, and our slate is cleaned whenever we confess to him any sin we commit. And as we allow God and Christ into our hearts to be sprinkled with his blood, he writes his law on it so that the work Christ begins in us - which is to make our heart like his - he will eventually complete.

Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Amen! Yes, today Jesus Christ is the mercy seat of God, "ie" (our propitiation for sin), in where we approach that mercy seat having no guile or rebellion therein by the baptism of repentance, coming clean with God (the preparation of the heart) "ie" the parable of the sower that falls on good ground, whereas we received the engrafted word that is able to save our souls while hungering and thirsting for righteousness, and to such as these they will be filled promised Jesus....

Those who contend 24/7 in favor of sin truly do vex the spirit of the righteous and where out the saints....That's all for today, perhaps another day....
