Well,

When The Heavenly Father calls a man to repentance He does as you mentioned using an Image of His Righteousness/The Law-a gift from God.

The man being called experiences a "Godly Sorrow"-a gift from God, in light of his violating the righteous requirements of God/The Law.

Then God offers this man an opportunity to Repent-a gift from God!

If the man repents, he is eligible for forgiveness, justification for those sins he committed through acceptance of the sacrifice Christ made for him- a gift from God/Yahshua!

Once Justified that man is clothed it the Robe of Christ's Righteousness! - A gift from God/Yahshua!

This new Robed Righteous man now embarks on a New Life "In Christ"! He is now eligible for yet another GIFT. The Gift of the anointing of the Holy Spirit which is synonymous with the writing of Gods Laws upon our hearts! - A gift of God/Yahshua!

This anointing is to be sought after baptism and is to be WAITED FOR because without this gift this man remains carnal and the Robe of Righteousness he received becomes soiled with sin due to transgressing the Law! The Holy Spirit drastically reduces violations of the Law/dirtying of the Robe because of the zeal and love for Gods law that is written upon his heart.

So, to your question "what can the law give you that the Spirit can not" I say you ask a foolish question! The Spirit of God Gives you the Law on your Heart, essentially making them one and the same! Your question should lead you to ask some serious questions EG. Not to be unkind or anything, but a witness of the Holy Spirit is a love for the Laws of God, Yahshua Love Included!

SG

A foolish question?

I will tell you what the law gives us

When we stand in front of Christ, God will use the ten commands to PROVE we were sinners.

And when we try to show him how many great works we did, how much we loved the law. How many works we did in his name.

He will agains use that law. To PROVE you were under the curse of the law. And to show you how you have no excuse, how that SAME law showed you how your sins woudl be remitted or atoned for. And if you had only looked to the law as it was purposed to be looked at. You would realise this.

But since you did not? Hiw reply will be depart from me for I NEVER KNEW YOU.

You see, I see in my view that you want to take the law which God gave to PROVE TO US how sinful we REALY ARE, in hopes of leading us to the one high priest and lamb of God. And make it into something else. Which it was never intended to be. And I just can not agree with that

To me, This is the same mistake the pharisees Made. And you know what? They did the same thing to Jesus and his followers that any here do to us? tell us how we hate Gods law. Hate obedience, Hate people that wish to be obedient. Love our sin, and in effect Hate God. And anyone who wants to be obedient, so we attack them, and all the other things we get accused of.

Well just like the tax collector. We see who went home justified. It was not the one who always focused on himself. How righteous he was. How much he loves God. And how much he is being attacked. He looked at the same law. Saw his condemnation. And understood the sacrifices could never remove sin, and called out to God for salvation

he went home justified, He went home adopted as a child of God. He went home wiht the eternal life Jesus told nicodemus anyone who believed would have, With the rivers of living water he romised the woman at the well and anyone else who asks for this living water. He went home after having eaten the flesh and blood of Christ, recieved the promises that he would never hunger, never thirst, He would live forever, He HAS eternal life, HE WILL be risen on the last day, And he s NO LONGER DEAD. (I can go on and on and give many other examples of what that person received the moment God answered him) but hope-full you get The point.

Now what is this person going to do? He is going to go get baptized. Go and by Gods grace and Mercy and power change his life. Be one who obeys Gods commands, Because he is a new creature, and can as john said, no longer live in sin (the way he did before)

But sadly people want to take that power away from him and try to put him back under law. And thats the most dangerous thing a new believer can get caught up in, It will want to destroy them. I know. I not only experienced this sad fate, I have witnessed many people who also suffered the same fate..

Of course.

One quote that I respect because it is scriptural:

"We must be willing to know the extent of the mixedness in our own character, for what the eye does not see the heart will not grieve over." James Gregory Mantle

We can and should ask God regularly in prayer and fasting to reveal our hearts to us as David did;

Psa 139:23-24 NIV Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. (24) See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Amen

But this take humility, and the power to say I may be wrong, and not everyone who disagrees with me is out to get me.

If your not open to what others say, Your not open to possible correction by God himself.

It is true EG,

The purpose of the Law for the unregenerated man was to lead Him to Christ. But that is "The Law" in reference to the regenerated man. The Law does not end there. Even the New Convert will sin and it is there to convict him too. And so much more. Once the New Creation tarries and receives the Holy Spirit then there is a wide array of functions of The Law;

2Ti 3:16 NIV All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

You're like a dang pitbull someone is trying to save from drowning and all he wants to do is bite the rescuer! The Law is the rescuer of anyone who has violated it in that it is a "light unto thy path" as David said. But after redemption we find through fellowship with the Holy Spirit a gracious tenderness as he guides and corrects and educates in a merciful way as we continue to acknowledge our faltering and repent, and wash our robes in the Blood Rev 22:14~
I do not need the law (which I already know and has been written on my heart) to tell me I am still a sinner

I know because

1. I know what the ten commands are
2. I know what the true definition of sin is (its called the flesh) and this definition includes the law but goes much deeper and much more concise.
3. Once again, If I am in need to be told that coveting is a sin. Something is majorly wrong with me. In fact, one could say I have not yet repented. (They still think it is ok to covet)

So let me try to get my head around your theology here;

You are saying if we ignore the Law altogether and trust Grace for all the sins we commit along the way, negating the nagging calls to repent from our sins issued by the law, we will be safe come judgement day. Is that right?

And to me and others who received the gift of justification and all it entails through the Grace of God and yet we continue to find the need to repent in light of our sins against God's righteous requirements, to keep our robes washed in the Blood of Yahshua we will be damned! Is that correct?

Why do you continually need to repent? Have you not repented already? What is wrong with you that you have not admitted to God that certain sins are sin, so you think you have to repent every time you do those sins?

Have you never heard of confession? That why we can boldly go to the father, not in the spirit of fear. But of a sound minem and confess our sins to him.

If you go by law. Your condemned

If you go by confession and admission of your sin, then what did Abba say he would do with those sins?

I hear you EG, but, and I do not say these things with contempt of judgement, but with sorrow that you cannot see how I truly see and feel. The tax collector was not justified because he wasn't a Pharisee, but because he was contrite. His justification was due to His acquiescing to the Light of God's righteous requirements, the Law which gave him a repentant and humbled heart! This is our life day in and day out. If we are not humbled and contrite how can our hearts reach the point that the Tax collector did? He was ripe for Justification! We need to stay Humble like that. Yeah the Pharisees were hypocrites, Jurks in everyones eyes! I hope. And you are wrong, I do not think I am holier than you! Sad thing to say EG.

Why don't you just come straight out and say you don't like the Word of God, or the way He wants His kingdom to be run. The law was glorious, the flesh was weak. But you have the law as bad. It will certainly be an interesting conversation you will be having with Him. Can't wait to see it.
If you consider that Jesus says what the Father gives him, and if you further consider the disputes Jesus had with the Jews, we see it on here as well, then it is plain to see that the Father of Jesus is not the Father of the Jews. This means the god of ONE NATION is not the God of all nations. In other words, the Jews have their own god who is not my God. This is clearly shown in the Bible and you would see it for yourself if you did not see the law of MOSES through rose coloured spectacles.

We repent much, due to sins we commit, we are not even aware that we commit.
The more one matures in the Spirit? The more one repents!
But? (and a pretty big but, too) This happens AFTER one picks up one's cross, and starts entering the Kingdom of God. Or, another way of saying? The "government" of the Kingdom of God, on the shoulders of Jesus Christ! Ya see? Jesus isn't "the government!" Jesus holds UP "the Government!"

Up until that point? One can't even see the Kingdom of God, or "the government" He bares on His shoulders!

Is it your theology that we repent once and from that point forward we simply ask for forgiveness? To me Repentance means following up "conviction for sins committed", by committing to never do them again, and then asking forgiveness.

I take that to mean you think without a repentant heart you may still receive forgiveness. Is that correct?

2Co 7:9 NIV yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.

Love being blind, as love can become?
Nobody, "sees" themselves in that camp!
Perhaps the only people who are saved are the ones who DO see themselves in that camp.

The pharisee prayed, I keep all the commandments! thank God I am not like those sinners!

The publican dared not lift his eyes, and prayed, have mercy on me a sinner!

Only one of them went home justified.

How do you sin?
And why do you AGAIN SAY ONLY JESUS CAN DO THAT. DO you even read my posts? How many times do I personally need to tell you I already have the saving Grace of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior? Either you are intentionally mentioning it to make it appear as if I don't or you really can't remember. Would you please be honest and tell me which is it? It can't be for other people reading can it? They are not stupid and need to be reminded every other post. And who is MOrris, a bible commentator?
Why can't you accept that people are condemned because they sin against God, rather than because they lit a fire on the Sabbath? I have never heard such nonsense.

Noone can deny the point you are making, but you miss the mark by doing exactly what the Pahrisee did by accusing. The point of it was to show that a Humble and contrite heart is required to reach repentance a prerequisite to forgiveness/Justification!

Love keeps no record of wrongs
If this is so? How did THIS happen?
Jude
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Appears, someone or, something turned a "blind eye", in the "allowing" of this/these abominations to "slip in" undetected, eh?

Amazing point!

But to that man that kept the Sabbath as His maker led Him to he has a clean conscience and love for Him. Why cannot you leave a man to serve his Master as his Master has led him to? THat is the bigger question.
