I think that it is pretty self explanatory. If Jesus had a sinful nature, then He Himself would be a sinner and therefore would not be able to pay the penalty for our sins and neither would He have been able to resurrect. Our sinful nature was passed on to all humans through Adam. This is why Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit and not through human seed. Yes, Jesus was tempted by Satan, which He resisted, but He did not have a sinful nature.

In his humanity, he was a man, and men can be killed.

Nobody knows how long Jesus would have lived if he had not been crucified. Personally, I wonder about it sometimes, but it's really pointless.. :)

He came the first time to die for our sins. He'll come the second time in power and glory.
But he should not be able to die if He wasn't under Adam's curse.

Not necessarily. Are babies and young children sinners?

so had Jesus been born with the up hill battle like all the rest of us would He have sinned?
Then He wouldn't have been "like us in every way". I think He had that uphill battle but He mastered it and never sinned. Therefore He knows what we go through.

Paul said in the flesh dwells no good thing, and the Spirit and the flesh are contrary to each other.

Jesus had a sin nature according to the flesh, but He is God manifest in the flesh, so He was always led of the Spirit.

Which the Bible says if a person hates sin, and does not want sin, by the Spirit they can abstain from sin, for a Spirit led life will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, for they have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts, and show the ways of the Spirit which there are no ways of the flesh there.

So even a saint can abstain from sin by the Spirit, and they still have a sin nature according to the flesh, but they can sin if they want to sin, but Jesus was always led of the Spirit so He could not sin, but He was made like us for He had to be human like us for Him to qualify as the Savior, for only a sinless man can reconcile mankind to God.

They say we inherit Adam's sin nature, but I say it is choice that causes the dilemma.

When Adam and Eve ate from the tree they then had a choice between good and evil, so all their offspring has a choice between good and evil, so we are born not knowing God, and will do evil before we come to God and repent, so all are sinners and come short of the glory of God.

But we are born innocent without sin in our life, and a clean record, which the Bible says that the angels always behold the face of the Father for the little ones that have not come to the age of accountability, which they are protected spiritually.

But because of choice we are born not knowing God, so we will do evil before we come to God and repent.

Jesus had to of had a sin nature as us, and be made like us, for Him to qualify as fully human so salvation could be effective, but He is God manifest in flesh so He was sinless always led of the Spirit, but His flesh wanted to sin, but He did not have the desire to heed the flesh being God.

Jesus being born of Mary without a human father does not make Him less human, for God did create all things, and can heal, so He can cause Jesus to be completely human that did not have a human father.

If we get our heads out of that NLT Bible and read the same verses in Hebrews that started this thread, we just might have a little clarity. Here it is in KJV (with vs 16 added):

Heb. 2:16-18 "For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted."

It becomes clear that Christ had to overcome the sin nature and by doing so: He proved it could be done.

Not until they come to the age of accountability, which only God knows. When they get to that age, then yes, they are sinners and will have already sinned themselves. Jesus was tempted with sin, but He did not have a sinful nature.

If young children could have the sinful nature and not be sinners then why is it hard for you to accept the same for the Son of God?

They may not have sinned, but they are born sinners, and need salvation.

The sin nature of a young child is readily apparent. "Me, me, me", "gimme!". They have to be taught to share.

You don't think Jesus had an uphill battle? He was tempted to sin just as we are. He was tempted by the devil himself. How many of us can say that?

Jesus was tempted in ALL points as we are tempted....He was the 2nd Adam and had the ability to sin and was tempted and tried yet without sin....

But He would not have been tempted just as we if He didn't have our sin nature.

Then where does the Bible say babies are damned who don't get saved?

I do not believe there is a valid reason for saying that. Adam did not have a sin nature before he disobeyed God. He was tempted, and sinned.

Could you explain how you come to this conclusion? Adam's sin brought death into the world; that affected every living thing. Jesus came in the flesh into the fallen world, but He did not inherit the sin nature that Adam had introduced. The sin nature is inherent to humanity through Adam's sin. The external effects of sin, which include death, still affected Jesus, even though He was without sin - in act or nature.
