Ava, I know a man who has DID. Some of his alters are Christian, some are definitely not. I have often wondered if he would go to heaven or hell.

I have an MDiv, and I'm working on PhD in Theology. I really can't answer this deep question. I finally decided with this man, that it was up to God, not me. Maybe each case is different, and God deals with them as he sees fit.

I do think you will be whole when Jesus returns. Whether that means you are lost, or whether God integrates your faith into the others, I honestly don't know. I think you need to pray God will save the other alters. And trust God that he is righteous, but also love, and he always does the right thing.

Sorry I could not be more help in this spiritual question.

PS I know a lot about MI, I run support groups for people with bipolar disorder and other MI. But too little is really known about DID to make me an authority in it. I will pray you will find the answer.

Hello friends :)

My name is Ava, and I am a member of what's known as a Dissociative Identity Disorder system. This means I am one of multiple people, known as alters, who exist within this body. This can only occur when a child experiences ongoing and extreme trauma, and the brain fragments into separate identities, with separate memories and attributes, as a protective measure. We can each control the body at various times. We have different names, genders, sexualities, interests, glasses prescriptions, reactions to medications, dominant hands, allergies, and beliefs. Obviously we aren't literally different people, we are manifestations of the needs of one brain, but to us it feels like we are different people, so I refer to us as such.

I am what's known as an emotional protector and a caretaker. I look after the wellbeing of the other alters, I take care of the body when the host (the one who fronts the most) is unable to, I look after any alters who are struggling, I act as a parent to child alters and I front to calm the system down in situations of high stress or when the others are struggling with trauma.

I am not the "main" alter. If an original exists I am not it. I in fact did not exist as an alter until fairly recently in comparison to the rest of the system (once the brain has learned to split in childhood, it can continue to do so even into adulthood in response to new traumas). I am, however, the only currently active alter who is Christian. The rest range from disinterest to active dislike of Christianity, especially as some hold memories of trauma perpetuated by religious institutions or by people wielding religion as a weapon. I do not know what occurred, but I am told it was bad enough that simply being in a church or being ministered to will trigger flashbacks.

My question is this: what happens when we die? Do we all go to hell, because the others reject God? Do we all go to heaven, pulled there by my faith? Might we have separate souls, and each go to heaven or hell accordingly?

Note: I am happy to answer any questions you may have in regards to DID or our system.

Note 2: I am not looking for medical advice, so please do not try to tell me how to "cure" DID. Full integration is not an option for us and is generally considered unsafe. Any comments referring to us as demons will be ignored. Converting the others is not really an option here, when I try it triggers flashbacks.

Thank you and God bless you for any perspectives you can give :)
People are not demons. Demons are lying spirits that are removed by the Spirit of God's truth as it is written

Like all things. . how do we hear God as the father of spirits and not mankind?

Its not our outward bodies of death that we wrestles with for identity but the inward spirit that is identified by the things not seen .

In that way God has set eternity in the heart of man but man cannot see the spiritual eternal

Before Christians were born from above there spirit was subject to the letter of the law as a temporal, dying, leading toward death and return to the spiritless dust. .Christians are freely given a new heart and eternal spirit . Before receiving the belief of and from God not seen working in us. We a were all like the legion under the authority of the father of lies.

Legion is one of the many names for the god of this world the father of lies. . He can come on in multiple forms giving the illusion of many gods (legion)

The gospel of fasting with prayer can cast them out. Sometimes many other time one at a time. He promises to do that work he began in us till the end .

But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many Mark 5:.6-9

unclean spirit = lying spirit that apposes the Spirit of Christ also called demons . .

Legion. . . How many? As many as are needed to bring the lie and make the word of God without effect..

Like the woman by the well we must keep coming back to the living water of the word to find our identity in the body , The living water of truth.

John 8:31-32 King James Version (KJV) Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Colossians 2 speaks a little on the subject . I am using the Easy Read Version . It would seem the good news can change the desires. I am not saying that to you but about how truth can free us from the spirit of error, called demons.

Some people enjoy acting as if they are humble and love to worship angels. They always talk about the visions they have seen. Don’t listen to them when they say you are wrong because you don’t do these things. It is so foolish for them to feel such pride, because it is all based on their own human ideas. Colossians 2:18

Their own human ideas = self talk contemplations of the hard heart.

Umm, not quite sure how to approach this but here goes..

The person who you reside in, has a soul. You and the other alters do not. So when the person dies, her soul will go to heaven if she is saved. NO, you alters do not each have a soul, only the flesh and blood person you inhabit does. God does not recognize the alters of those with DID as people, He only recognizes the person that is being inhabited..
I have a different answer. After years of biblical study and spiritual experiences I have come to the conclusion that there are no such a thing as Dissociative Identity Disorder. Only people and demons. If you are the "alter" then you are a demon. I believe this for many reasons. Where did you come from? Folks are totally incapable of coming up with a whole new identity other then the one God created them with. Which means you came from outside of the person whom God created. Not from within the person God created and no one is ever created without the consent of God. Since God is the creator of all life and He would never create a person with more then one personality, you Ava and the rest of the alters can only be demons who have possessed your host.
In the Bible both adults and children had been possessed.
Mar 7:25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

Mar 7:26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

Healthy people do not need a doctor, sick people do. Jesus Christ is the Great Physician. Trust Him and be at peace knowing He has “all of you” covered in His saving grace.

It's an imaginary space because it isn't technically real. It's in our head. Just like if you had a "happy place" or something that you imagined, only it is extremely vivid and feels very real to us. It's more metaphorical and vague than the external world, but to us it feels completely real. Like if you're dreaming and the world you're in defies physics in some way but it makes complete sense to you at the time. It's consistent in its structure, a building with an office and lounge going into a hallway, a dormitory building, a tent, a garden, a swing set, duck pond, underground caves, a forest containing old cottages and a river. It's where we go when we're not in front, and we have lives there, we interact like neighbours would, we eat, we sleep. In some systems they might have jobs and families in the inner world. It functions as a space to communicate, as we're not very good with communication in other ways such as "sending" each other our thoughts quite yet.

They appear in the forest usually, either literally popping into existence or coming out of the caves if they're coming out of dormancy, and I'll be sent to go and find them and make sure they're ok and that they understand what's happening.
Sounds like the warning in Colossians 2. The building up a faith based on the imaginations of the human heart as that in which you referred to as . . . . and "I'll" be sent to go and find them and make sure they're ok and that they understand what's happening. they are simply giving their view of the work of their own imagination.

Some people enjoy acting as if they are humble and love to worship angels. They always talk about the visions they have seen. "Don’t listen to them when they say you are wrong because you don’t do these things. It is so foolish for them to feel such pride, because it is all based on their own human ideas. 1 Colossians 2:18

The Son of man Jesus in Mathew 4, at the beginning of his ministry weakened was given what one might call out of the body visions of the Colossians 2:18 understanding . Without moving one inch he saw all the kingdoms and the glory. Three times and all three times the father strengthened the Son and gave Jesus words of the lord to rebuke the Satan also called legion, many lying spirits sent out to blind the light of the gospel as it is written. Three times and the father of lies "legion" disappear

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.Mathew 4:8-11

Or in other words .You shall not worship the Lord thy God not seen as if he was a man seen .But worship Him as it is written the unseen holy glorious place that we can look forward to, walking by faith in our new bodies..

I can't believe you said that! I laughed seriously for quite a while. And will likely laugh all day...

I know it's a serious topic, but that was healing humor...

I suffer from dissociative episodes, and sometimes it's difficult to tell what's causing it. But i never lose sight of reality.

I used to think it was bad meds, or bad weed from the 70's, but mine seem to be at times, related to migraine events. A bad migraine can feel the same as a bad hallucinogenic reaction, or a cannabis high. Even strong herbal tea can send me to La La land.

So can a mild seizure, or other medical issues.

But it sounds like a discussion about altered states of mind due to trauma. Counselor's say that it can not be resolved by medication, but they might help calm in an emergency, or help someone in a crisis while they are working through the issues.

But only Jesus can calm the stormy seas within. And heal broken hearts and make people whole. One command by the right person - "be one.".
or "be united as a whole person,"
"be whole, in Jesus Name.". the Apostle James gave examples of Apostolic commands and Peter, Paul, and John and all through the Bible.

There are Christian counseling teams who know how to help people resolve these trauma issues.

I've found a lot of help with the "Freedom in Christ" ministry and the "Bondage Breaker," and "Victory Over the Darkness," ministry references based in Dr. Neil Anderson's counseling experiences and Bible teaching.

If there are spiritual influences trying to manipulate the trauma, they would be immediately silenced and subjected to the Authority of Christ.

There are dramatic examples in those books, and above all, we have the Bible.

Amen. Now that's the ticket!

But, the person could be describing real events, and they have a gift to see into the spiritual realm, and they are just trying to help. Even if we are clueless, or feel like we are in La La land, the Lord does some if His best work through us folks who may have our "wires crossed,". as one doctor said to me calmly, "well, maybe your wires are just crossed.". I said, "what!?". He said, "yeah...maybe your wires are just crossed.". "And just WHAT do you mean by that, DOC!?". I could have said, "maybe u should deal with your own wires, doc!?". "Maybe I should cross the wires on that $50,000 air conditioned truck with on-command 4 wheel drive, and call the tow truck to recycle it into scrap metal.. ".

"Would my wires still be crossed!?".

Ok, but I didn't.
And isn't that what we are supposed to have as Christians?
Our wires are supposed to be crossed... that's when Sparks fly... and amazing stuff happens!

Blame tourist, there...!
They started it...

I am happy that made you laugh for that was the intent. Apparently you were the only one who appreciated my attempt to lighten the dark mood of the thread by attempting a little humor, that post received a lot of negative feedback.

With all due respect, when people have multiple personalities, demons are clearly involved. You can ignore that is you wish, but the truth should not be avoided.

I would agree .We do not wrestle against the things of men the things the eyes see but do against the unseen spirits of error called demons . They come out by prayer and fasting .Fasting the hearing of the gospel. The one source of truth or faith that sets men free.

Hi, I actually have a very similar struggle. I found this conversation when I searched DID and Christian chat. I generally don't speak as "we" and such because I am praying for full integration and working with a very gentle Christian counselor towards this hope. But I do understand even if I don't speak in the same way. I believe we (You and I as whole beings) are fully His. I think He understands our struggles a great deal more then we realize. I believe that salvation has a great deal more to do with our spirit then our soul, at least as I define these terms. My spirit is the part of me which communions with God. My soul is my mind, emotions, and such as this. I believe it is the soul (mind) that becomes fragmented so therefore salvation is not at stake.

However, the extreme tension caused by parts that do believe and parts that don't causes me extreme discomfort to say the least. I sometimes have become terrified suddenly not believing and at the same time fearing the Holy Spirit will leave because of my unbelief. It's quite difficult. Several of my parts have come to believe actually, but it was not really from me trying to convert, but instead more gently trying to have those parts speak to the Holy Spirit or to Jesus especially about the things I am so afraid about. Some took much longer than others and I still have a part that acts a bit as an agnostic, but it's more from confusion then anger at this point. The Holy Spirit has been able to take me out of some of the trauma places that I felt stuck in inside my head and kept reliving. This greatly helped the unbelief and anger that parts of me felt toward God. He has freed me in many ways and I do not react as fearfully as I once did though I still have a long way to go.

If it helps, the way I picture it, if I were to die as I am now, in partial belief and partial unbelief, I believe that He would just gently met each part of me and explain what is going on...explain that He is love and loves all of me...and then just gently put me back together, because really it's what He's doing right now for me anyways...if that makes sense. I hope this note finds you well. May He bless you abundantly for you are loved, all parts of you. Also, remember the man in the Bible who prayed "I believe. Please help my unbelief." I've often found this comforting because although Jesus was encouraging more faith, He did not speak with anger or hate the man, but loved him.

I would like to encourage anyone struggling with DID/MPD to find episode 68 of "The Naked Bible Podcast" with Dr. Michael Heiser. It's available on YouTube as well as on the blog site by that name. On that particular episode, Dr. Heiser interviews "Fern" and "Audrey" who minister specifically to people in this situation. The two ladies have been interviewed several times since, though I don't know the episode numbers offhand. I found their insight very enlightening.
