Tts 1:2 "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"
Tts 1:3 "But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;"
Paul was in HOPE of eternal life which God has PROMISED before the world began.
No verse anywhere says that God made eternal life an UNCONDITIONAL promise to anyone. This promise of eternal life was manifested/made known/revealed through the word of God, Christ's gospel word which tells us:
Jn 3:15 "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."
Jn 10:27,28 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life;..."
Jude 1:21 "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life."
1 Jn 2:24,25 " If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life."
Rom 2:7,8 "To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath."
Clearly God's promise of eternal life is CONDITIONAL upon (from the verses above):
Jn 3:15 one maintaining a present tense belief
Jn 10:27,28 maintaining a present tense hearing and following Christ
Jude 1:21 keeping ones self in the love of God
1 Jn 2:24,25 letting the word you heard preach remain in you
Rom 2:7 a continuance in well doing
If one quits meeting these CONDTIONS God has place upon His promise of eternal life then one forfeits the promise. Eternal life remains eternal one just no longer possesses that promise. Never did God make His promise of eternal life UNCONDITIONAL, that is, no one gains eternal life UNCONDTIONALLY and can never lose it even if he quits believing, quits hearing and following Christ, does not keep himself in the love of God, does not let the word abide in him, quits well doing.
No one gains the promise of eternal life without CONDITIONALLY meeting these conditions Christ's gospel sets forth and no one can maintain that promise if he quits meeting these conditions.

Jn 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Jn 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
One must CONDITIONALLY maintain a present tense belief so he should (subjunctive mood) not perish/be saved Jn 3:16. (see also Jn 6:47; 1 Tim 1:16)
Jn 5:24 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
One must CONDITIONALLY maintain a present tense hearing and believing to have everlasting life.
Jn 6:27 "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."
One must CONDITIONALLY maintain a present tense laboring to have everlasting life.
