First of all apologies for another "tongues" thread but I just wanted opinions of those who do speak in tongues. Is it your opinion that those without this gift are unsaved?

I have to say this is the biggest misconception about speaking in tongues. Those that believe this way are called Holiness and it is totally a man made doctrine. They also believe in no make-up,long dresses and no hair cutting. Never seen a woman with a smile on her face in this religion. They are definitely the hardest on the women.

Sounds like man made doctrine alright...hey to be saved you need Jesus and also this and this and that and this small thing here once you've ACCOMPLISHED all these things then you are saved...sounds silly to me last I checked all I needed was to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior...what's with all the extra stuff?

If we are in the body of Christ then we all have different roles in that body, some people are given certain gifts while others are given others does that make one more "worthy" or more "saved" than another? Course not that's nonsense none of us are worthy or good enough to be saved...nothing we can do can make us worthy that's why its called Grace :)

That question has been covered mulitple times and the answer is always

NO WE WHO SPEAK IN TONGUES DO NOT THINK THAT THOSE WHO DO NOT SPEAK IN TONGUES ARE NOT SAVED

Tongues did not die for anyone but Jesus did

as far as legalistic holiness folk go, I don't recommend them as works does not save anyone either

The way I see it, any Christian can have this "speaking in tongues" if they want it. It is a shame that some Christians think that because people do not want it or have not got it then they are not saved, which is ridiculous.

This becomes available when someone is baptised by Holy Spirit, another huge mus-understood area and another area which is used by some people to elevate themselves above others.

I was sceptical at first myself, I did not even know if I had been baptised by Holy Spirit, I did not remember such an event, but it was a few years ago now that I was attending a series of talks and teaching on this subject, I went up at last day as I thought I had not been baptised by Holy Spirit, so people were being prayed over to be baptised, after we went through all the junk and issues that could be a block as to why, God showed me that I had, a quick vision as to the event some 25 years previous and I'm like "Oh yeh I remember that now".

After that I just realised I could speak in this so tried, it just came out natural like, it was listened to, prayed about and had it confirmed it was Holy Spirit at work, not some other spirit influencing me.

So yes, there you have it, if people do not want to use this, then I have no problem with it, what I do have a problem with is some people using it as something to elevate their standing and status.

Were Abraham, Jacob and Isaak speaking in tongues? Are they saved? Was Maria Magdalena speaking in tongues? Is she saved?
And works does not save anyone either - true, but work is the way to show our love :) - Sounds similar? If your husband says "I love you" and "Thank you my beautiful one" will you think he still loves you if he does not do anything you would like? :D
The most important question is what we are doing after been saved and is it possible to loose that salvation  as it is written in Hebrew 6:4-9?

yeah I do say that

AND I have never heard the claim you are not saved EVER and that means on this forum as well

I think it must be people in the minority that state that

BUT most importantly, the Bible DOES NOT say that and that is what counts

uh...the OT is not the same as the NT with regards to how the Holy Spirit operates so I really am not sure what point you wish to make? There tends to be a lot more PHYSICAL manifestations of the supernatural in the OT and that is another difference...the NT emphasizes an INNER witness rather than a physical one

as for the rest of your post, I don't see a connection to the op...sorry I just don't see it

As I said above, people who believe that are called holiness pentecostals and people who dont know the difference think anyone who speaks in tongues feel this way.We do not.

Hey I'm not here to attack you sister I agree with you...I'm just saying I've heard it said the other way as well...regardless of whether its the minority or majority...those legalistic minorities are pushing people away from Christ instead of drawing them closer...Madparrotwoman must have also heard this nonsense somewhere else I'm sure she's not pulling it out of thing air...just saying....

Please do not assume...that is how conversation falls apart

I did not say I thought you were attacking me, I do not think you are attacking me and you did not come across as attacking me and I very seldom would say to anyone they are attacking me

you are free to state whatever you wish and I simply responded to your post...no worries

In the last three days, I've been told by two different people (maybe) on this site that I am not saved because I do not speak in tongues.

Have you ever considered that you have not seen these things said because you have enough common sense to avoid the truly stupid posts?

Yeesh! Sorry. I simply don't have that much common sense.

I think more often than not it's simply the suggestion, it isn't said in such a way but it plants the seeds of doubt in one's own mind...if you know what I mean?

Yes that is called the holiness movement, may want to google it. But most who speak in tongues believe what the Bible says and are not affiliated with the holiness movement.I had a girlfriend I went to school with who believed this way.It was funny because she couldnt say I was not saved, she knew better especially when I went in to the ministry. What could she say? She attended our concerts whenever we were in town. She carefully avoided the subject and never asked anything about tongues.

Actually one out-and-out said it. The other one simply said that whoever doesn't, isn't, and since I "doesn't" I, apparently "isn't." lol

That seed of doubt hit back when I was 16-22. It's done been plucked from the garden, tossed in the trash, disintegrated, and who knows what else by now. I just get a kick out of kids trying to convince me otherwise. Sadly, "kids" isn't an age, since one is in his 50's, (the one who said I'm not a Christian), but it is clearly a sign of babes in the woods, instead of in Christ.

I've become a happy curmudgeon in my older years, not falling for the silly stuff I fell for early on anymore. (Which means people have to come up with new stuff for me to fall for. lol)

Well, if someone give you a lemon, then you make a lemonade from it :) When we appear on front our Creator He probably would not ask us about anyone else but about ourself... So, I think that should be our care - if our deeds would stay in the fire.
In other wise - Paul says we MUST be joyful when someone test us on that way - just to be grateful and to pass the test without suing the person who God use to check us :D

LOL!...must be a gift ....

Frankly I am tired of all these tongues threads...they are becoming just as divisive as the OSAS threads

for the record, my husband does not speak in tongues and has no intention of doing so..he does believe, he says, and knows I speak in tongues...well pray mostly would be more accurate

so, if two like that can live together I am sure that Christians can get along whether or not they speak in tongues

I can't help what others say...but I do know there is alot of abusive use and fake stuff in the world

However, I have been very much blessed by this gift and I have seen other gifts at work in my life as well....doesn't matter, my prayer is to know God as He is and not how people represent Him or make Him out to be

I'm not special; I may just have different experience
