LOL!...must be a gift ....

Frankly I am tired of all these tongues threads...they are becoming just as divisive as the OSAS threads

for the record, my husband does not speak in tongues and has no intention of doing so..he does believe, he says, and knows I speak in tongues...well pray mostly would be more accurate

so, if two like that can live together I am sure that Christians can get along whether or not they speak in tongues

I can't help what others say...but I do know there is alot of abusive use and fake stuff in the world

However, I have been very much blessed by this gift and I have seen other gifts at work in my life as well....doesn't matter, my prayer is to know God as He is and not how people represent Him or make Him out to be

I'm not special; I may just have different experience
My hubby speaks in tongues too.

uh...the OT is not the same as the NT with regards to how the Holy Spirit operates so I really am not sure what point you wish to make? There tends to be a lot more PHYSICAL manifestations of the supernatural in the OT and that is another difference...the NT emphasizes an INNER witness rather than a physical one

as for the rest of your post, I don't see a connection to the op...sorry I just don't see it
Ember, I really LOVE your way to express yourself! I am in love with it - I wish I could do it also!!! Look - I am Bulgarian and still have not pass 3-th level of English in British Council - so excuse me if my expression is not properly one :D /if your Bulgarian is better than my English - lets speak on it?/
Do not you like the example about Abraham? :D I would say that Mouses also had not spoken tongues - he even hardly spoke and that was why Aaron was his speaker. /a bit derivation about NT and OT -I do not separate Bible :D - there is written that all Word is inspired by God. Jesus has talked the words and I believe that we cannot understand Him without knowledge what about He refereed His words (if we want to of course)*-end derivation*/. SO - on the subject- I believe that every single word in Whole Bible is precious!:D As you said - there is not written that one is not saved if one do not speak in tongues. That is the only one of the all marks of the Spirit, and one may have got the other gift and it is possible even to not know if have a gift. I had seen the true story of people who have got the HS in them but could not talk in tongues till the pastor has pray with them and says - "you start speak and it will happen "- and it was /by the way they were from England- Mark was is the name of the kid - pastor`s grandson/.
Ah, the connection that ..(really love your stile - it is enjoyable always!!!- to me that are free lessons -just love to read your words!) ..well, the connection was peaceful one - I meant that it is pointless one to worry if can not speak in Tongues because there are most important things to worry about - and that are - if we have Christian behaviour and Christian heart and if they match. That is :) God bless you all!
PS. By the way - Bulgarian East Orthodox Christian Church do not use tongues (of the kind like Pentecostal Churches ) ... I have not an idea why ... but, do you think that all nation like us and Greece and Russian can be unsaved because of it?

What I meant by old and new testaments was only in reference to the Holy Spirit...I accept all the Bible also!

yes.. some people have different experiences...as long as it is really God, I am ok with that

LOL! I'm not sure why you like how I write? But thank you for saying so...

Again. I did not speak in tongues until years after I was saved but I know I was saved. We read in the book of Acts that people were saved after the day of Pentecost but someone prayed for them and then they spoke in tongues..You see, I don't believe the Bible gives us a formula for salvation or for any part of our life in Christ...how can anyone explain all the different ways people come to believe or anything else?

We just need to be careful we do not do things that go against the Bible or start following gifts or experience...we should always follow Christ!

PS. By the way - Bulgarian East Orthodox Christian Church do not use tongues (of the kind like Pentecostal Churches ) ... I have not an idea why ... but, do you think that all nation like us and Greece and Russian can be unsaved because of it?

I would not say that at all...I am sure there are people who speak in tongues who think they are saved and are not saved...again, if we have assurance (big word...means if we know for sure inside us) that we are saved, then we are...God does not lie and He wants us to know we have Him as our Father

Jesus said you would have ALL the signs following..believe him or not !?
we harp on about tongues because we want people saved not just self religion..as in Christs time..they thought they were right also !! you cant get the signs (ALL) without him..

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

now who would want to be against speaking to GOD (undefiled)..

Jude 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

if the light you think you have is darkness..how great is the darkness..your playing with eternal life..be very careful !

Jesus said Mark 16+ believers will have these signs ( all ) of them ..
Acts 2v4 the start of the out pouring Spirit..
Acts 2v 38 How to move towards GOD ( his way ) repent (babys cant) be baptized (full immerssion in greek) recieve the Holy Gost !! very very important...without which...Ro 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
tongues is spiritual prayer given by GOD upon reciving the Holy Ghost ,he is a Spirit and they that worship MUST worship in Spirit and Truth ..not man made religion ...
Just look through the book of acts and see HOW THEY KNEW they recieved ...

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

beware of the leaven who would try to steer you away from talking to GOD..HIS WAY !!!!

There are nine spiritual gifts mentioned by Paul. I've known Christians who have one gift, or several and they can come and go. Yes, there are still signs and wonders when the Holy spirit touches down.
Some people get real weak in their knees, like me and I 'quake" like Daniel, sometimes ending up on the floor..and when that happens, it is awesome. I am only aware of a one on one channel...GOD and me..no matter the size of the crowd. My whole mental attitude is sharp and focused and GOD uses that time to speak or direct or cause repentence or a host of things that only HE and I need to know about. Some call this "Slane" in the Spirit. I call it "Father and SON having a moment" lol IT's not that I personally seek to fall down, but it has and does occur often...at times, I cannot speak at all, at times I cannot stand on my own two feet. Sometimes, laughter accomodates this, sometimes, tears, but most of the time, I'm being touched by a Supernatural force, a calming, soothing, healing that is very hard to describe to someone that has never experienced it just yet. One time, after facing a former satanic priest online in a Christian chatroom, I started to walk away from my computer and I suddenly was 'forced" to the carpet and protected by an unseen entity. I actually heard a battle going on above my head, in the room, swords and shouts and voices. This lasted for about 4-5 minutes until the sweet presence that protected me allowed me to stand up.

Oh! That makes so much more sense. lol

Tongues - a foreign language that comes out of your mouth. Sometimes it's a recognizable language to someone listening. When the apostles burst out into tongues in a crowd, everyone understood them. Since that's festival time in Jerusalem, many people from different places were there, yet they all understood them.

An angelic language -- i.e. no one but some tongue-talkers speak. It's supposed to be good for a gathering of Christians if someone else in the group can interpret them. It's also sometimes used in private prayer, to say what your native language just doesn't feel adequate to express.

Down side: Faking it. Because of the strong push to believe that tongues are all that and a bucket of chips, and because some of us feel like we no one if we can't, we fake it. Sometimes not even intentionally. I did that or a few years, before I realize I could only speak 4-5 syllables and just mixed them around. They did nothing for me that a good math problem could do (how many ways can you turn 4-5 syllable around so it sounds like real words?) And then I read an article on it and figured out what I was doing, so I stopped.

i think I remember faking it before too. Not intentionally, people in Church were just talking about it a whole lot and i guess I subconsciencly thought I had to do that too, so I made random noises and thought that might be it, but nonit wasn't, it was more silly than anything.
I guess I've just decided not to worry about tounges and focus on my Faith and life.

Paul sets the standard or way to run the church (decent and in order ) no you should not all ( ALL COULD ) speak in tongues ,(as is in some places today !!) max 3 and a corresponding interpretation then 2 or 3 prophecy ..etc etc as in Corinthians..people think that is an excuse not to receive the Holy Ghost just like in the book of acts..see how they KNEW they received..

1Co 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: (ALL) its taken for granted Paul was happy with this !! (but it is Gods private prayer ,to him direct..not mans language..its undefiled ) YET IN THE CHURCH MAX 3 ..its only to show you are what you claim..CHRISTIAN..!

I'm still confused. Are you trying to say you have to be able to speak in tounges to be a Christian? Because that's not true.

Jesus said you would have the Signs...why not believe him !?
the book of acts clearly defines when one is filled with the spirit...!!
Rom 8v9 no spirit non of his..!! just trying to make people see the truth rather than religious nonsense which is how the people, were in Jesus time and he showed the many times how far they were wrong..and they crucified him..

people like..by Grace your saved..no..or Faith..or confess the Lord Jesus..(actually means to say the same as ..signs etc) or God so loved the word..etc ITS ALL...including Gods directive to Repent..from religious nonsense..be Baptized..full immersion and receive the HOLY GHOST..the first 2 are your part, as obedience.. the last is HIS and it is shown what happens then..in acts...etc

9 ¶ And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.
10 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.

just one step wrong..

Nu 3:4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the sight of Aaron their father.

not the fire of the Holy Ghost today...

1Ki 14:16 And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.

you dont need to go to Jerusalem to worship (like God prescribed)..here build an alter in Samaria..looks the same..

etc etc many more..this is ETERNAL LIFE were talking about do it GODs Way ...

1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:

why wouldn't you !!?

Totally agree.

There is also a complication that many believe they are going to be raptured out of all trouble before the great tribulation which precedes the day of the Lord. If you put the two together it looks like many are in a very dangerous place, because one sign of trouble will make their love of God wax cold: they will believe God has deserted them if they have no evidence to the contrary.

So an enormous point of tongues is that it is evidence (or a sign) of the presence of the Holy Spirit in us. It isn't the only evidence, thank the Lord, but there has to be SOME evidence. When trouble comes, if all a person has is positive thinking, it will not be enough to save them, and it certainly will not be enough to comfort them. Rememberance of our baptism with the Holy Spirit ( a personal powerful and prolonged experience of God ) is also a comfort to us in the same way, through bad times, because when all logic flees, we know that we know that we know....we are in Him.

Romans 8:9
[h=2]But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.[/h]If we are "none of His" He will say "depart from Me I never knew you". That makes this subject of utmost importance, I would say.

Thanks for your input!
