Biblical purgatory is a purging . . . not a place, but a state.
It is the blood of Christ which cleanses and purges the soul, not any other kind of purging.

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Rev 1:5,6)

1 JOHN 1
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

The Jewish Encyclopedia would disagree with you . . .
The actual Kaddish does NOT mention Purgatory.

May His great Name grow exalted and sanctified in the world that He created as He willed. May He give reign to His kingship in your lifetimes and in your days, and in the lifetimes of the entire Family of Israel, swiftly and soon. Now say: (Amen. May His great Name be blessed forever and ever.)

Blessed, praised, glorified, exalted, extolled, mighty, upraised, and lauded be the Name of the Holy One Blessed is He, beyond any blessing and song, praise and consolation that are uttered in the world. Now say: Amen

May there be abundant peace from Heaven and life upon us and upon all Israel. Now say: Amen

He Who makes peace in His heights, may He make peace, upon us and upon all Israel. Now say: Amen

You are suggesting that believers can not purge themselves that make them vessels of dishonor? We are certainly not able to purge our own sins for salvation, but we certainly do participate in our personal sanctification.

"But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world" (I Corinthians 11:28-32).

No they were speaking of "praying for the dead", which does not automatically translate into purgatory.

The Jewish Kaddish (prayer for the dead) makes absolutely no reference to a Purgatory.
they taught that when one left this world they had to go through a soul purification stage before entering heaven. i think it is called gehana, so its not called purgatory but the end result is still the same thing

why do so many flip out over the idea of purgatory? this is something that always baffled me. when i was a kid i asked about it and the elders (baptist) were highly offended that i would entertain such a thought.

Because purgatory, as a place, which is what one religion teaches, has no relevance to the teachings of Christ.
When someone insists that all Christians must endure a place that does not exist prior to entering Heaven they're teaching what is considered by definition, heresy. And worse, they're blaspheming the Holy Spirit by claiming Jesus did not pay it all on the cross. And God's grace and plan of Salvation was not fulfilled there.

The Humanist pagan fictional place called purgatory, gives idol worship and human authority power over souls. It is satanic, not Christian. It exists nowhere in God's word.

If you count my years spent in a horrific first marriage then yeah, I have been to such a place but it seemed more like hell at the time and the long years that followed after the divorce.

ok so the place does not exist, and you know this how? did you go there, see nothing and now your back to tell us?
heresy!? whats that mean? it means a group of men got together and made this decision, such as the Nazarenes (the sect of Jesus) were heretics, or anyone that thought the earth revolved around the sun.
blasphemy against the spirit? ohh wow. not sure how to even begin on this one. so now we are perfect and never sin, if we follow this idea why not throw the commandments out as well, there is no need for them.
it exist plenty in the scriptures. Satanic??
thank you for providing the perfect example of what i was talking about.
the Essenes taught this doctrine, they were considered the most holy Jewish sect, John the baptist was one of their great teachers. and these guys, according to you were following Satanic doctrines. pitiful. . .

No, the Essenes did no such thing. And you'd have to prove everything you claim.
You can't. There is no such place as purgatory. Though those who feel deserved of such a place I am certain can find any number of passages so as to cherry pick and blend them together to prove their desire to suffer after death so as to feel worthy of Heaven. You also believe in Indulgences too since that is a practice conflated with purgatory. Someone who believes in purgatory should start saving their money now.
In their will take that exclusive bank account final balance and have it earmarked to pay the RCC for their early release short time served in Purgatory.
Once Purgatory's cashier receives the draft of funds, they'll let the poor dumb sufferer out.
It's been that way for generations in the RCC. Though the church claims now that they've done away with indulgences, they, as usual in such matters where they're found to be less than moral in their practices, are lying.

And joining you are all those in the waiting room who, no matter how far away treatment rooms are , can still hear that insufferable drill. :devilish: Is it impossible to make one that makes no sound at all?

When I was a kid it took the dentist at least 45 minutes with a rickety old drill to fill a cavity . . . now it is done in about 10 minutes or less with a hydro-powered drill. It really isn't so bad.

But if you are younger than, say, 30 - the only drill you know is the newer drill - so you really have nothing to compare it with.

Hey, as long as there's laughing gas, I'm happy with the new drill. :p

and how much have you studied on the Essenes, its in the DSS, you ever read them? doesnt sound like it.
Paul teaches after this life we are judged, what exactly are we being judged for when there is nothing to judge us on?

the roman church corrupted the teaching by scaring people into giving money, thats no grounds to call the teaching false, prosperity preachers twist scripture every day to make money.

So long as the doctor doesn't ask you any personal, incriminating questions while you are under . . .
Hey now, if you have the right dentist with a sense of humor that could be fun. Uh, after the drill and fill of course. "Don't tell them where I buried Hoffa. K?" (Snore) "The money from the bank robbery is in the spare in my trunk. Shhhhh!" "E.T phoned me collect!"

The Essenes never taught purgatory. Far be it from me to hope to persuade someone who first believes they need to go to Purgatory after they die.
Enjoy the ride.

then where did the idea come from, it didnt come from the sadducee and pharisee sects as they were always anti mystic and this was always a mystical concept, who were the mystics of that day, Essenes and Nazarenes. the Jewish version is ancient and they would never have picked it up from Catholics because Jews and Catholics hated each other back then.
i dont think you have to go there, if you live a perfect life without committing one sin you can bypass it, if not then its part of the judgment. you think something unclean could really enter heaven?
