Re: HELP! I Just Watched An In Depth & Unorthodox Bible Study Video That Shook My Fai
And there's an angel of God who is called God, and in the same bible we have 1 Chronicles 21:1 and 2 Samuel 24:1 which call Satan God the Father. It does seem, as strange as it sounds, that the bible's making the statement that there is an angel who is God - and that that angel's name is Satan.
The verses of 1 Chronicles 21:1 and from 2 Samuel 24:1 do not say that "there's an angel of God who is called God"; the verse from 2 Samuel 24:1 do not state that Satan is God the Father. You just apply to these verses the conclusion (and understanding) with which the young man in the video started: that God is an angel (Satan).
What is uncertain about the 1 Chronicles 21:1 and 2 Samuel 24:1 is the person who incited David to make the census.
In one case is Satan, while in another case is God. They seem contradictory and unfortunately, for the young man in the video, they seem to identify Satan with God.
Before explaining what this is actually all about, I want to tell you that there is absolutely no basis to think that the Jews actually thought that Satan was YHWH. Even a shallow look at the entire O.T. will teach you what the Jews believed.
There are several verses that say that God creates evil or incite to evil (2 Samuel 24:1). How are we to understand this verses? How did the Jews understand God? The Jews believed that YHWH is the absolute sovereign, the prime cause of everything which exists and moves, including history, and that nothing happens without Him knowing or without His permission.
So, while the 1 Chronicles present Satan as the one who incited David, the verse from 2 Samuel 24:1 shows that ultimately, the absolute sovereign is God, not Satan. God allowed Satan to incite David to sin.
