By being saved, the EVENT of salvation is how we get that assurance. That is when God, the Creator of everything, makes us all new giving us new life and lifting the veil through the work of His Son Jesus on the cross. Being saved is how we are assured. Being saved is more that repeating some words a pastor says, or being dunked under water. I think this is where the disconnect is with you, a misunderstanding of what salvation actually is. I understand I was in a place where I thought I was a Christian and actually wasn't, and that messes everything up when it comes to understanding the things of the Spirit. Again only God can assure you of salvation, and that happens at the point you are born again (when you are saved).
Please read carefully.

Your words, "Being saved is how we are assured.".

Me: Hey Jimbone, how do you know you are saved?

Jimbone: Because God assures me that I am saved.

Me: How can you be so assured?

Jimbone: Because God saved me.

Can you not see the circular reasoning?

In case you don't know, circular reasoning is really really really dangerous.

Sometimes it's best just to watch the Walking Dead rather arguing with 'em

Same with the Sons of Anarchy....

I guess if you want to see it like that, but the answer is pretty clear in my mind.
You- How can you be assured you are saved.
Me -God is the only one that can assure you of that, and He does so when you're saved.
You-Yea but how do you know?
Me- God assured me by completely changing me and making me a whole new person overnight leaving no doubt in my mind at all that He is real, Jesus is His Son and the ONLY way, and His Spirit indwelling me for the rest of my life.
You- but how do you know, you're using circular reasoning?

Do you see why it's so hard to answer you, you wont accept the answer. His Holy Spirit assures you when you're saved, if you don't understand that then you are most likely not saved and is why you have no assurance.

To answer "Can you not see the circular reasoning? " Nope, I only see truth and a hard headed person that refuses it.

can i ask you a question?

do you think everyone who truely believes Jesus will save them is decieved?

do you think assurance is a tool of the enemy?

i personally believe its a gift from God

and any kind of false assurance will lead to evidence in the persons fruits

lets say a child of God is confident in Jesus
and knows his relationship with God is genuine

seeing the works of the Holy spirit in his life

this will lead to the person following Gods will expecting to see him

if it is false

it will either lead to trying to gain the admiration of men or gain access into heaven through dead works not faith

or the justification of sin

dont you think?

How can someone "know" they are saved if the Bible clearly states that many will be shocked when Jesus proclaims to many, "Away, I never knew you".

How can totally different groups with opposing gospels all "know" they are saved and be correct? Clearly they all cannot be right. If many who sincerely believe they are saved be ultimately wrong, what is our defense for not being labeled among the mistaken?
Salvation is not joining the correct group; Salvation is found at the Cross of Jesus. It is there at the Cross where you will find the answers to everything you are asking, including assurance of Salvation.

He was pretty subtle, but if you reread his first post, what he's really been saying all along is everyone else is delusional about being saved because he knows he doesn't know for himself, but he certainly knows for many others. This really always was a "what's wrong with you" post. He's been telling each of us what is wrong with us too.
well, the only way someone could be sure that no one else is sure is if they're sure that no one else is saved.

i'm sure the redeemed exist, tho, just as surely as the Redeemer lives. so i wasn't paying that line of thinking any mind. ;)

Do I think everyone who truly believes Jesus will save them is deceived? No. Salvation is not based on if we "believe" we are saved. That is the point of the OP. Some on this thread are implying it is.

Do I think assurance is a tool of the enemy? It certainly can be. "Many will say Lord, Lord did we not", these are among those that the enemy's "tool of false assurance" worked on.

I only saw two questions, if you have more please post them.

There's nothing "circular" about God saving a sinner and then assuring the saint that he is saved. Salvation is entirely of God, and it is God the Holy Spirit who assures Christians that they are indeed saved. End of story.

The [Holy] Spirit itself [Himself] beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God (Romans 8:16).

the third i posted may have been poorly worded

im sorry

dont you think, if someone is being led by a deceptive spirit (or is decieved)
and has assurance falsely

it will manifest itself in their fruit

and those with the Holy spirit (in most cases) will be able to spot what is in this false believers heart through what they do,say and believe

This is not about God using circular reasoning but man. Salvation is by faith, not assurance of faith.

Just because you feel assured of salvation does not equal salvation. This is the error of circular reasoning and you are so deep into it you cannot see pass it.

This is the danger of circular reasoning, once you are in the loop its hard to get out.

In some cases yes, but in many they will be too blind to it or it may be too late.

i really dont wish to "beat around the bush"

but just 5 years ago i was a violent agnostic criminal

living in fornication

never having read the bible

and just around 3 years ago i actually started reading it if i remember right because my heart had been changed and maybe 4 years ago is when i KNEW Jesus was real and i couldnt go without learning more

and not even 1 year ago
around the time i finished the bible and started going back to things seeking truths i missed

is when other people started mentioning the change in me through my actions

i wont lie

sometimes i wonder about my salvation

but i know Jesus is the truth and the way

so i will continue pressing forward... God willing

and maybe
if my faith is in Him

he will save me

i believe he can

and i believe he will if my faith in him is true because the inspired scriptures say so...

but like most people

there are times when i see my performance...
where i do things that... are NOT of the Holy spirit

and in these times i wonder

then i remember that they call the enemy the accuser

and i think about spiritual warfare

hahaha

i didnt want to ramble man...

maybe im not the best example for assurance
....

I must tell you if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Your Lord and Savior and repent of all sins. Ask him to come into your heart (because it all starts in the heart) once He's in your heart he'll beat it down with a stick until your heart is pure and acceptable. Anyway, once he's in your heart, he will never get out no matter how hard you try. God is a jealouse God he is not "dumb" enough to let you astray no matter the years.

I will attempt to make this as simple as I can.

Is it possible to have a false sense of assurance in salvation? Yes or No?
==================================================

ABSOLUTELY! - years ago, when I was very young and very vulnerable and enmeshed
in my local Southern Baptist Church, very humble and sincere Church, - the elders invited a
'BIG-CITY-EVANGELIST to visit our Church, =
He came
He conqured
He deceived
He fleeced us royally
He was so powerful, that he fooled even the elders, much less us younger ones...

was I 'saved' as I walked down the isle feeling/speaking like a spastic clown,
full of remorse?
'NO',
but I am now, after my True 'conversion', confirmed by the signs and wonders
by Jesus Christ...by the way, Jesus NEVER asked for $, not, He nor His...
if one is truly called, elected and chosen, just read Romans 1:17.

this is the KEY, giving ALL-UP for Him and His...
Assurance is an amazing GIFT...it will always lead you to go another step
and claim the future your God has made for you, but we have to accept and do
our part...

DJ2 if you dont know you're saved, why do you stay a christian? Why do you not want to make sure? Ya profile says you was saved in the 80s. Awkward. How do you know?

I'm sure Paul would have said "Beware of circular reasoning, just as he said "beware of dogs, beware of evil works, beware of the concision".

You totally missed the point of my post and went off on a tangent. I said absolutely nothing about our faith. I did say something about God's assurance.
