it's not about faith in and of itself, it's The Object of said faith.

do you love God with ALL your heart, soul, mind and strength 24/7/365?

i'll assume (forgive me) that's a 'no'.

do you love Him in that way most all the time? (i really am going somewhere with this...)
Your question, "do you love God with ALL your heart, soul, mind and strength 24/7/365?" can only be answered by God, according to Jeremiah 17:9.

So my answer is, I don't know.

We are back to square one.

Okay how about this, "God will let you know and that is the only way we can KNOW." I can't tell anyone else how to KNOW they are saved, all I can do is share with them how I KNOW that I am saved and pray the Spirit opens their eyes to it.

Now how do I "KNOW" I'm saved? Well I've shared that on this site to the point I almost don't like to just so people don't get tired of seeing it, but it was through the hardest trial of my life. It was after 2 years of wanting to kill myself every day and thinking about doing it at least every 5 minutes of everyday that whole 2 years. It was after a motorcycle wreak that wasn't my fault took all function from my right (and dominate) arm, there was no way I, modern medicine, science, or this world could fix it, and me already thinking I was a Christian (the one that would have heard "depart from Me I never knew you") so I had nowhere to turn. I got no compensation for it at all, no benefit at all, yet could not leave my 2 boys with an "my dad killed himself" story, and knew know one would love them like their father would no matter how bad I wanted to die.

I came to the end of myself, I knew there was nothing I could do to help myself and I threw my hands up and quit. That's what I did the day God saved me (Sept. 29th 2013), I honestly didn't even want to believe there was a God anymore, if I every truly had, at this point. I hit my knees just knowing I couldn't do it anymore, and that's what I said, "I can't do this anymore, I can't do this anymore, I can't do this anymore, I tried, world you win, and I QUIT!!!" That was it, I didn't realize it then but the "old man" died right there on the floor that day. The next day I woke up new, I didn't even realize until lunch that I hadn't thought about killing myself all day, I also realized right then that I had felt better all day too. At that point I had no clue what had taken place but I KNEW two things, I knew it was from God, and I KNEW Jesus was His Son.

I started really thinking and then for the first time ever picked up the bible then started reading it for myself. Then I thought after reading a few things "I think I was born again", then kept on reading and reading. Within an hour or so I was just plain awestruck, It's all real? I't like for real really real? OH God thank you it's like for real really actually real. I think I dragged my jaw behind me for a month after this, after my own "road to Damascus" experience. That was how God assured me I was saved, and that is how I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am saved. I can't tell you how you know you're saved, or anyone else either, that's between the person and God, each one of us our different, but the way you KNOW you're saved can only come from God. Hope that's specific enough for you.
Personal experiences or feelings cannot assure us of salvation. The God of the Bible is not a god of confusion. If God assures us through personal experiences or feelings your story or any other story would be of little help to others. Do you have any verses to share about this issue?

What happened to Paul on the road to Damascus was not to assure him that he was saved but to prepare him for service.

well, i was getting to knowing. lol

do you love God.... at all? do you try to follow Him?

if your answer is yes, you must know "we love Him because He first loved us." :)

we can have no love for God, for His ways, unless we have first been loved by Him.

do you see yourself there?
"do you see yourself there?"

Does it matter to God where I see myself?

It is where I am that matters.

We can "think" many bogus things about ourselves but these thoughts hold no weight before God.

I am rather surprised by how much circular reasoning is being used on this thread and not being called out.

How can someone "know" they are saved if the Bible clearly states that many will be shocked when Jesus proclaims to many, "Away, I never knew you".

How can totally different groups with opposing gospels all "know" they are saved and be correct? Clearly they all cannot be right. If many who sincerely believe they are saved be ultimately wrong, what is our defense for not being labeled among the mistaken?
The Spirit in me says it and the Word of God says it!

I am quite shocked to see the amount of circular reasoning being used on this thread. Post #147 is classic but not unique.

If this is the reasoning behind the notion of "assurance of salvation" then I suggest the idea is false.

Does anyone have another reason on how we can have assurance?

I don't have a answer to what I would need to be convinced but just believing that I am saved does not seem very convincing.

On the question of why I feel the need to ask, it seems many claim to know something that is impossible to know. That "thing" being the future.
Hello DJ2, this is the first time I have replied to your post.

When God first saved me I had many questions about my new faith in Jesus. Further more there will be people you know who you thought for sure would be in heaven, that are not; and there will be people in heaven who you thought would never make it but they did. Only God knows who is truly saved and who is not.

Christians have the comfort of the scriptures to teach us and give us hope; It is not impossible to know that you are saved, read and study the bible and find a good rock solid Church to grow in your faith and you will begin to develop trust in Jesus.

"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that; you may know that you have eternal life." 1John5:13; (the future is not impossible to know)

"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

God bless.

the apostle Paul said his conscience was void of offense against God....I would suppose this is how one knows....
continued: It could also be said that when one enters into a covenant relationship with God in a season of godly sorrow through the baptism of repentance> like Paul did in Damascus without food or water for 3 days. Whereas Paul was once formerly the chief of sinners, he now put off the old man of sin, in that he ceased from his own works of sin, having entered into Christs’ rest walking in the new man of righteousness........be blessed

Absolutely! It's by knowing what Scripture has said about the believer. Know Scripture...know who you are in Christ. Doubts come from being away from the word of God.

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 1 Corinthians 15:56

Jesus paid the price for sin due under the law with the shedding of
His righteous blood :) He is our Passover Lamb. If we are covered
by grace through faith, in this shedding of blood to pay the sin debt,
then we are saved from the second death.

But does sincerely believing you are saved equal actual salvation? It seems this is what you are suggesting.

Many people have left cults confessing that they once sincerely believed they were destined for heaven. They were using the same reasoning as you are.
I have been attempting to illustrate for you that it is the Holy Spirit who makes believing real. Man believing of his own volition means nothing. Faith, saving faith comes from hearing the word of God. It is the Holy Spirit who makes the faith living faith and efficacious in salvation.

The question was not if you can know but how can you know.

How you can know; you can know by applying yourself to reading the word of God
.

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans10:17

Does anyone have another reason on how we can have assurance?

By simply believing God and accepting what He says about assurance.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God (Rom 8:16).

I also pointed out that the first epistle of John gives at least 5-10 litmus tests to confirm whether we are indeed children of God. It looks like you did not bother to study that epistle.

How does this address the question at hand?

How ow can I give you a post number if there are many posts, which one should I give you?

I made a whole whole post of nothing but scripture on our hope in Christ, and how it never lets you down if we have faith,

did you not read It

if you won't accept your own testimony, won't accept the testimony of scripture, and won't accept the testimony of the Spirit -- what exactly is going to be sufficient for you?

like, are you expecting to get some kind of notarized document in the mail? that can probably be arranged ((though personally i might doubt its authenticity & authority))
