How worn out is worn out? Put it in box and bury it. Wrap it up and privately throw it away. Donate it to a hospital, a home for elderly.
Just know the book itself is not holy. But do show some respect, as you seem to want to do.

I wore one out...had it rebound and wore it out again....Now the New bible (in 95) has been worn out and I have been super gluing pages in for the last 10 years which works excellent by the way...I have kept all of my worn out bibles for the notes that are in them that I have made and or taken over the years.....

If it's rather dilapidated, I would put it in a box and bury it, as another poster suggested. But if it's still in usable condition, give it to someone who need it but can't afford to buy one.. :)

Once I had a worn out bible
And my neighbor likes to take worn bibles
And stitch quilted cover on them
Its lovely really

I would leave it somewhere like in a laundromat or on a picnic table at a park or maybe in the restroom at a restaurant. You never know who may pick it up and read exactly what God wants to tell then. I don't think most people would dispose of it, but would either read it or ignore it.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I simply don't. I can't. Sure I've grabbed my notes scattered about the books, and ripped out the blank pages since crammed with more notes, but what if there is a line note I added that becomes important to remember some time in the future?

So, I don't. We have space on our bookcase for just such problems. lol

The manner in which I would dispose of it... well, that would depend on the translation ;)

If just the cover is worn out you can use Dap Weldwood Original contact cement to put on another. That particular glue stays flexible and is excellent for book binding. Just follow the directions.

I think lots of people give them to the thrift store... cuz I have some pretty cool old ones I got there!!!

Thanks for the DAP info shotgun... I might try that.

I have never disposed of a bible...... but I do buy another one I have marked one up a lot... something about a clean bible begs of getting FRESH REVELATION. I recently bought 2 new ones in SUPER GIANT PRINT... easy reading for tired eyes.

I think you could respectfully burn it, like they do for worn-out flags. But I'd probably just keep it...

I'm going to pull out Romans 14 and say that as long as a person's heart is respectful, it doesn't matter how they do it.

Please don't be embarrassed. I think that you have a great system. I have a shelf full of worn out Bibles. Most are marked up in the margins, have underlined and highlighted text, dogeared pages, sticky tabs, a few torn pages, etc. Sometimes my grandchildren will take one down and leaf through it. I enjoy the giggles when they find some of my crazy notations.

I keep a box of new Bibles to give to people who don't have one. I take the time to outline a plan of salvation in each of them.

Over the past few years, I've moved from a paper Bible to an electronic Bible. I have copies on all my PCs, Laptops, tablets, and phones. I still like to sit back and review my notes on my old Bibles.

Do U have a picture of it? (if not already got ridden of it).

I have heard that, those that are in prison have used them as rolling paper... :(

My fred Ed., each time I needed one, I borrowed one OLD one we still use each time we met to study the Lord´s word but, since I actually have several, the only one I would miss, it was one of PURE LEATHER I gave to someone who needed a Bible.

NIV versions are lovely but, if I had one (a new one made of pure leather)

God! (Sigh)

You know what I missed... :(

But, each time I went to the beach (sea oceans) I would never bring those sensitive tools those places I´ve been.

By the way!

Old versions for mobile phones are so LIGHT... The .JAR I have in my Nokia is less than 2Mb

:)

I have seen that, what other ppl see as garbage, has served as a blessing for those who have lacked certain things I passed on (without burning them)
