We have all heard that statement.

But it doesn't make sense.

For example

You've heard this quote, "I am not perfect."

matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect

Will that person ever be perfect? If they have faith, yes they will be perfect if they have faith.

Do you pray nonstop?

17 Pray without ceasing.

Again i ask the question

Does someone go to hell for continuing to sin?

Yes, there are people who go to hell for continuing to sin, even as God will forgive anything except denying that God is God, or blasphemy. Scripture says this about it:
1Co_5:11 But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.

Notice that God doesn't say it is about people who do any of these things, but about people who habitually do them so they can be identified with that sin.

It is amazing how much you pray every day! When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive an awareness of God in our life. There are people who look at the ocean, or a tree, or grass growing without knowing that God created it and even if they enjoy the sight of these things, thanking God just isn't part of their enjoyment. After you become aware of God, He isn't really ever completely apart from your being as a person. Even your awareness of God is a sort of prayer.

Does it make sense, "If you continue to walk contrary to the chastisement (education, tutorage) of the Spirit" then, sooner or later, you start walking on an opposite path from the Spirit. (ALL of Proverbs).

''anyone who CLAIMS'' to be a believer... meaning they weren't in the first place if they end up in hell. I may cut my hair, pad my face, put on men's pants etc and CLAIM to be a man... but in God's eye I am not what I claim. (and no, I would never do such a thing)

Every time we sin, the Lord disciplines us. At the appropriate time he forgives us:

[17] "Yet your people say, `The way of the Lord is not just'; when it is their own way that is not just.
[18] When the righteous turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall die for it.
[19] And when the wicked turns from his wickedness, and does what is lawful and right, he shall live by it.
[20] Yet you say, `The way of the Lord is not just.' O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways." Ezekiel 33:17-20 RSV

Continuing to sin would be to conciously keep sinning. Those who have given over to God, truely, are no longer "slaves" to sin as in our old life. The sins we do are usually not done on purpose, they are slips, and when we realize what was done, ask for forgiveness of the oneoffended and of God. Some sin is hard to avoid as satan tries to dig his heels in on us to try to sway us away. To sin which leads to Hell, is to keep going back to that sin tie after time and not really trying to stay away from it.

God bless

Matthew 5:48 is Jesus telling us all to love just like GOD does. The word "perfect" there means maturely. We are to love as maturely as GOD Does. The passage the verse ends the conversation on, is discussing how Christian love will be exhibited by works.

Part of maturation is to fail and still sin, right?

Paul discussed the PERFECT and the IMPERFECT believers. He discussed them with words like meat, and milk,. But, even the milk still had Christ as mediator.

So there are certain sins that are attributed to our growth process, so they are over looked by God?

Correct. Part of growing up is that sometimes we may fall, but with repentance, we stand back up.

What's going on Owen?

I'm one of the ones who don't believe in the concept of "process" as it relates to our salvation. If God detest sin and if Christ died for our sins, I think that it is kind of hard for sin to be apart of our growth. The mentality of "when I fall" is nowhere is Scripture. John said that "IF" we sin, we have an advocate with the Father. How can we reach maturation through sin? In Romans 6, Paul asked 2 questions that speaks volumes (paraphrasing):

1. Should we continue in sin that grace may abound? Nope
2. How shall we who died to sin live in it any longer?

Do I believe people fall? Yes, and this is from personal experience but I fell because I wasn't doing the things that I was supposed to do. I wasn't in the Word like I was supposed to nor praying like I was supposed to. Little by little, old man flesh started creeping to the forefront and before I knew it, I was back under the bondage of sin because I chose to go back.

Now, I will answer your question with a question; what do you think about continual sin?

Hebrews 10:26-30, " For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Those who rejected the Law given through Mosheh died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished, who has trampled the Son of Yahweh underfoot, and has counted the blood of the covenant (with which He was sanctified) an unholy thing, and who has insulted the Spirit of mercy? For we know Him Who has said: Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says Yahweh. And again: Yahweh will judge His people."

Romans 3:25, "Whom Yahweh set forth as a sacrifice of atonement by His own blood, through the faith, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of Yahweh."

I believe that it is possible to be perfect, but I also believe that if you are not perfect than you are living in continual sin because you are not perfect. Or if you pray non stop from now on for ever and ever you are not breaking the command, "pray continually."

But I also believe that certain people will go to hell BECAUSE of sin. DoesJesus over look some sins but not others because we are making an attempt to be perfect and pray continually? but if we are not making an attempt to love God we do not deserve to inherit the Kingdom of God?

It tells us in Scripure that all sins can be forgiven through Christ except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It also says that those who are first may be last and those last may be first. The Lord gave those who sin a chance even to the end. Don't forget when he went to the Cross his blood cleansed the earth. He went and gave Ministry to the dead before Resurrection. In Revelation the Dead (in Christ) are judged and still given another chance to "Turn and be Healed" before being tossed away as chaff into the burning lake. Biker Dave

We are all mortals, in flesh with carnal mind. We sin and if we say we dont sin it is a lie

1Jn 1:8 . If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

till our death we will sin, because we are still in the flesh. Knowingly or unknowingly we sin. But bible tells that

1Jn 2:1 . My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

So we have our advocate Jesus Christ who helps us in such situations. Our sins are forgiven by God through Jesus Christ.

the thing we have to be careful is that we should not allow sin to rule us

Ro 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Now this is something that God commanded us to do. Do not allow sin to reign our mortal body.

Drinking is not a sin, but if we become drunkards, it is like allowing the sin to rule ur bodies. another example: if we misbehave with brother or sister in Christ. it is a forgivable sin if if we do it once, we realize the mistake and ask forgivance from God. but if we make it a habit. then it is like allowing the sin to rule ur mind.

Hebrews 12 refutes what your said here.

[h=3]The Race of Faith[/h]12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, [SUP]2[/SUP]looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

[h=3]The Discipline of God[/h][SUP]3 [/SUP]For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. [SUP]4 [/SUP]You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. [SUP]5 [/SUP]And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:

“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;

[SUP]6 [/SUP]For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”[SUP][/SUP]

[SUP]7 [/SUP]If[SUP][/SUP] you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
[growth through chastising, in order to receive chastise from God, you first must have sinned. Then through the chastising of the Lord you Grow].
[SUP]8 [/SUP]But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
[if you don't receive any chastizing, are not not a true son, so either you are sinless or you sin to receive chastising. ARE YOU SINLESS?]

[SUP]9 [/SUP]Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? [SUP]10 [/SUP]For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. [sin-->chastizing-->repentance--> growth..IT's all here] [SUP]11 [/SUP]Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.[AGAIN, WE have GROWTH]...

If what you said was true, their would be no need for the Lord to chastise us.

If you continue to disobey the Lord, you'll probably go to hell. No matter what you convince yourself, the bible says it in Matthew 7:22. And people may call me religious because I focus on obeying God strictly.
Listen, if you are unholy and if there's a sin found in you and you didn't repent, you are not a part of the rapture.
PEOPLE! What's wrong with you? And once again fighting for your freedom?

So you don't think that you have any specific un-confessed in your life? You don't think you have any sin in your life that your current not aware of?

Luke 16:15
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

Was it highly esteemed by men in the days when Christ sojourned on earth to be self-righteous? Ask the Scribes and Pharisees!

just thinking of David...wise enough to pray this:

Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, God, and know my heart;test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
