There is a work of the flesh and a work of the Spirit. These are not the same thing altho outwardly they may "look" the same. The works that we do can originate from the flesh or from the spirit.
The works that we do originate from our own will that is guided by either the spirit or the flesh. GOD is not a puppeteer who makes us do things, nor one who does things thorough us as we passively watch.

Yes, but only the ones who are obedient (repent, believe) receive grace.
You mean obedient as In believe the WORD of GOD.

John 3:14-16
King James Version(KJV)

14.)And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15.)That whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish, but have eternal life.

16.)For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life.

It is God who is at work in us - to give us both "the will" and the capability "to do". We participate in His life in us because we are one in our spirit with Him and His life manifests out to a hurt and dying world and to our fellow brethren also.

The understanding of the new creation in Christ is critical to growing up in the Lord so that we do things in our union with Him and it all originates from Him being one with us.

This understanding will put a halt to all works-righteousness and to "maintain" our salvation for being qualified for going to be with the Lord.

Philippians 2:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Jesus is the author and finisher of faith. The flesh profits nothing. Only what comes from Him on the inside of us is what the Lord will recognize.

The Lord does not recognize things done in the flesh/self-effort even when we are trying to fulfill the word of God like Abraham did when created Ishmael.

God said to him - "take your son, your only son.." God does not recognize what the flesh/self-effort does even if it is for a good cause. The Lord will not share His glory.

Do you ever try to read what someone says, and just let them say it, Or do you always assume the worse?

Nothing in the post you responded to would insinuate what you tried to refute.

Amen, it is all of faith that we sacrifice our will, Because we trust God to do what he wills.. It is called carrying our cross, as we sacrifice for others. As Christ did while he was on earth.

Apart from Christ though, we can not do this.. we can make ourselves think we are. But in reality, we are not..

Like was shown in another thread (works) we think we have moved 1000 feet in our work, only to find out we are still standing in the same spot. Because God did not move us, we tried to move ourselves, and did not get anywhere

That's exactly what I mean. Believing the word of GOD = hearing the word of GOD and doing it.
And it condemns you for ever. You CANNOT do the word of God, for it includes the whole Law. Thus you are asking the totally impossible (Rom 1.18-3.20). That is why our only hope is to believe and accept the righteousness of God provided in Christ. He alone fully did what the word of God said.

Yet they judge us for being sinners, Because we have humility to admit we can not Do what God requires (perfection) when in reality, they have to water down the law (it is realy ok to do this sin, as long as we do not do that sin) to have any sense of believing what they do.

of course, we are sinners. Yet so are they, They just refuse to admit it. They make boo boo's or oopsies.. (I did not mean it God)

I can't think of any other way to understand why they believe the way they do.

I agree....the way of the flesh is so deceiving. The flesh always trys to do things independent of God - even good works can be treated that way as well. It's a subtle deceptive beast that's for sure...

I tend to look at the will as not really sacrificing my will per se as I have died with Christ and the real me is hidden in Him in God! ( Col. 3:3 )

It's more like a realization of who I really am now in Christ and when I see who I am - I live naturally to my true self and it is always in the will of God because we are one in the Spirit together.

I'm not sure if I am articulating clearly what I see in my spirit about that....I'll have to meditate on it for a bit...:)

so when are you going to do it?
This Pharisee (just like work salvationists today) think they are doing it:

Luke 18:9 - Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Awesome resource, thanks!!!

You're welcome! I hope many will find this as great a resource as I have. McGee is one of the best bible teachers that can be found, and not many have gone "verse by verse" through the whole bible. His teaching has been very helpful to me. As with any preacher/teacher I don't agree with everything, but I would easily say I agree with 95%. We all understand scripture differently because all of us are different and view scripture through different lenses. Fortunately God made the gospel easy enough for a second grader to understand and there is only one way to be understood although people still see it differently because they have not had the illumination of the Holy Spirit. This is due to hearing a false gospel. The Spirit will not reveal truth to someone hearing a lie, so we all need to be careful that we teach truth. Okay, getting offtrack....again. :)

It's just nice to have if I have a question on a certain passage I could look it up and see what he says. Hebrews is spot on I believe and his teaching has helped me understand it much better. Here's the link again for anyone who may have missed it.

Its sad, these people knew the torah (law) by heart, But did not know the Torah (law) at all. They knew the words, but could not comprehend the meaning..

Don't judge me on basis of what you are unable to do. You make Jesus out to be a liar and yourself a foolish man.

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. Matthew 7:26

Like this.....

Luke 6:46-49 "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?[SUP]47 [/SUP]Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
[SUP]48 [/SUP]He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
[SUP]49 [/SUP]But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Superb. And should be copy and pasted on every page of the thread.
Amen I agree. If starting at the beginning of chapter 10 of Hebrews we can see he is discussing sacrifices, then as you read through the chapter we see the subject never changes and when he gets to verse 19 he begins, 'having therefore brethren'. He is addressing believers about their sin of "unbelief" throughout all of Hebrews as many were continuing in the law after having trusted in Jesus as the Messiah.

The same thing still goes on today! Some have been saved and are deceived because of lack of time in Gods Word. Others have never been saved and are completely lost and doomed for hell unless the repent "change their thinking" and trust Christ alone as their own personal permanent sacrifice for sin on the cross Who rose from the grave.
