Bread Crumbs “A God Who Hears” January 8

One of the greatest promises given to every born-again believer is the promise of access to the Father. Because we have been justified by faith in Christ Jesus we are guaranteed to have an audience with God at any time of day or night. We have the capability of taking our needs, our supplications, our desperate cries, to the very ears of the one who controls all things. A believer should also remind themselves that we are the beloved of God. We are God's child and His ears are always open to the sound of our voice. A mother's innate ability to hear a child’s slight cry in the middle of the night is a witness to the sensitivity inbred in a loving mother’s nature. Your heavenly Father has a far greater love for you than the most adoring parent. He will not just hear your cry; He will also attend to the situation that causes you to call for His help. Your answer may not always come as quickly as you desire it to but rest assured that the answer is on the way! I am so glad that whenever I cry out to the Lord, He will always hear and He will always answer!

Psalm 61:2 - From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 30:27
The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

The third small thing the Lord mentions, but that is exceeding wise is the Locust. They have no king, but yet they move along in their business by bands. These things that are small yet exceeding wise should remind of ourselves before the fall into sin so long ago. We were, and always will be, small compared to our faithful God, but when He created us, He created us in His image and we knew the things that needed to be done to maintain that which He had given us. Once we sinned against Him we lost everything, and became needful of everything.

We didn’t even know what clothes to wear. We found some fig leaves in an attempt to cover our nakedness, but the Lord in His great mercy and love for us showed up with the promise of the Redeemer who would come and lay His life down through a sacrifice. He then clothed us with the skins of the animals, which referred to us being clothed with the Righteousness of Christ, the One who was crucified for us. Only through this avenue do we find the exceeding and great wisdom that we lost in the fall, and everything else we could possibly long for. Look for the cross and there you will find the exceeding wisdom you need daily. If we look away from the cross, we will become less fortunate than the locust.

Your Word for Today

“And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he built an Altar unto the LORD, and called upon the Name of the LORD (Gen. 12:8).

“Beth-el” means “House of God.” “Hai” means “garbage dump.”

The Altar alone, typifying the Cross, can keep the Believer away from the garbage dump.

It is virtually impossible for the Believer to know the difference between the “House of God” and the “garbage dump” other than by the Cross. That’s the reason we have so much false doctrine presently and so many Christians following false doctrine. For the last several decades, the Church has drifted so far from the Cross that it hardly knows any more where it has been, where it is, or where it is going. Because it no longer plants its doctrines on the foundation of the Cross, it has lost completely its moorings.

Without an understanding of the Cross, there is absolutely no discernment regarding false doctrine.

That’s the reason that Paul said: “Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times (the times in which we now live) some shall depart from the Faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (I Tim. 4:1).

A “departure from the Faith,” i.e., “Christ and Him Crucified,” is the reason!

Never forget:

Satan dresses up his “garbage dumps” to look like something else altogether. In other words, they look like anything but garbage dumps; and, without an understanding of the Cross, invariably that’s the way the Believer will go (Gal. 6:14).”

Get Understanding

The prophet Hosea made the statement, and rightly so, my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. It is vital to us as people of God that we not only read the word, but that we understand it, and rightly divide the word of truth! It was Brother Norman Geisler who said that the key to understanding and interpreting the scriptures is to understand that the scriptures are Christ-Centered, so, if we want to understand the word of God we must understand the person and work of Christ.

Far too often we approach the word of God and boast of how much we read the scriptures, however while reading the word it vital, it’s our understanding of the word and application of it to our lives that is even more important to us as believers. The scriptures tell us over and over again how important it is that we know and understand the scriptures, and how we should read it and as well study it. It is my belief that we should spend time daily reading the word, and through our reading and searching for truth, the Holy Spirit will illuminate our hearts and minds and give us revelation of the truth that is held within the text. Paul would say that we must study to show ourselves approved unto God....rightly dividing the word of truth. He would also tell us that all Scripture is Given by inspiration, and that the scriptures are profitable for all of us and for our Christian journeys.

So, in all of our getting, let’s get understanding, and as well, the reason for so much false doctrine in the church, is that the word of God is not being rightly divided! My prayer is that God’s people will see the importance of God’s word, and that we allow it to lead our lives and to be the final authority on all subjects!

Bread Crumbs “Rely on the Lord” January 9

What does it mean to believe God? It simply means that a person has chosen to rely upon the character of God and the promises of God. To be honest, the two are one and the same. When God says that He will do something, or when He proclaims in His Word some promise, then He is honor-bound to perform it. If God ever failed to do what He said He will do, then His character could be referred to as faulty. But God has never one time failed to perform that which He has promised. God watches over His Word and is careful to accomplish all that He says, even when it seems impossible! It will soon become evident that no circumstance has the power to stop God from fulfilling His Word. He only asks one thing of us. God asks His people to believe. Without faith it is impossible to please Him. Genuine faith continues to believe no matter how long it takes, no matter what seems to oppose the promise, no matter how long the wait. You will never be ashamed when you choose to believe and then wait for the Lord to perform His promise!

Jeremiah 1:12 - Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 30:28
The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Spiders may be small as mentioned as one of the four things that are small, yet exceeding wise, but they are able to use her hands to get into places in the Kings palaces that men cannot even go. It is not the size which God is referring to here in His wisdom that matters, as even Jesus taught us that faith only has to be the size of a mustard seed (Matthew 13:31, 17:20, Mark 4:31, Luke 13:19, 17:6) to be effective.

We as the children of God have “The measure” of faith (Romans 12:3), which means portion or measure. This measure of The faith is all we need because it is The measure of The faith of Jesus Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20). This faith overcomes the world (1 John 5:4), and brings all the grace of God we need each and every day. If our faith is in what Jesus did by grace through faith at the cross, THAT grace and THAT faith will flow into our lives, and our faithful God will be pleased!

Your Word for Today

“And he believed in the LORD; and He counted it to him for Righteousness (Gen. 15:6).

If one properly understands this one Verse of Scripture, then one basically understands the entirety of the Bible.

What is it that Abraham believed?

First of all, “he believed in the LORD.” And what does that mean?

Regarding the dealings of the Lord with Abraham, this means that Abraham believed that God ultimately would send a Redeemer into this world and would do so through his offspring. The Apostle Paul, in addressing this very thing, said, “Now to Abraham and his seed were the Promises made. He said not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of One, and to your Seed, which is Christ” (Gal. 3:16).

So, the entire nation of Israel, which would come from the loins of Abraham and the womb of Sarah, was but for one reason, and that was to bring forth “One Seed, which is Christ.” That “Seed” was brought forth for one reason, and one reason only, and that was to go to the Cross, which was necessary, that is, if the terrible sin debt was to be paid, and man thereby redeemed.

In essence, “Christ and Him Crucified” presents the entirety of the story of the Bible. Consequently, that’s where my Faith and your Faith had better be anchored (Rom. 4:3).”

Bread Crumbs “Eye Has Not Seen” January 10

Contained within the framework of God’s redemption plan is all that any soul will ever need to experience eternal and abundant life. To access what God has reserved requires a humble heart and a hearing ear. Revelation from the Spirit of God brings knowledge that is far more valuable than the tawdry elements and baubles that most men desire or chase after. The Spirit of God desires to reveal to us the precious benefits contained in Biblical salvation. These benefits begin with the freedom from the penalty and power of sin. God has prepared this liberty for every believer. He desires for us to receive a freedom, a peace, and a joy that is unattainable anywhere else or through any other means. We must not look just to what God has done relative to blessings in our eternal future. But we must understand that what He has prepared for us in this present life, at this present time, is far more than our finite minds can comprehend or even imagine. What Jesus did for us on Calvary has depths that have not yet been plummeted and heights that have not yet been climbed. I urge you to begin seeking God for the wisdom, knowledge, and revelation of all the benefits of the Cross.

1 Corinthians 2:9 - But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 30:29
There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:

Going well refers to things that move in order and have the reputation to go along with it, and respected by others. In the verses of Scripture that follow, the Lord speaks about four things that walk in their place and order, and in this place there is rulership. If we as Christians will keep our faith in the One who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18), through His redemptive work at Calvary (Philippians 2:8-9), we will find our place of order, as we walk in Him (Colossians 2:6). Our order and rulership as humanity is only found and experienced by Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).

There is only one way in which things go well with the people of God, and that is through a life of obedience, which God sees and honors if it is the obedience of Christ, which He sees in our hearts through our faith in His obedience to the death of the cross (Romans 6:17).

Your Word for Today

“And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac (Gen. 21:9-10).

The effect of the birth of Isaac was to make manifest the character of Ishmael. Ishmael hated Isaac and so did his mother, Hagar. Prompted by her, Ishmael sought to murder Isaac (Gal. 4:29), and, with his mother, was justly expelled. Both merited the severer sentence of death. Thus, the birth of Isaac, which filled Sarah’s heart with joy, filled Hagar’s with murder.

Isaac and Ishmael symbolize the new and the old natures in the Believer. Hagar and Sarah typify the two covenants of works and Grace, of bondage and liberty (Gal., Chpt. 4). The birth of the new nature demands the expulsion of the old. It is impossible, in fact, to improve the old nature. In the Eighth Chapter of Romans, the Holy Spirit says it is “enmity against God: for it not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can be.”

If, therefore, the old nature cannot be subject to the Law of God, how can it be improved?

How foolish, therefore, appears the doctrine of moral evolution!

The Divine way of holiness is to “put off the old man” just as Abraham “put off” Ishmael. Man’s way of holiness is to improve the “old man,” that is, to improve Ishmael. The effort is both foolish and hopeless.

The only way the “old man,” which refers to the old way, the way of the flesh, can be put off is by the Believer evidencing and maintaining Faith in Christ and the Cross. As the Cross is the only answer for “sin,” it also is the only answer for “self” (Lk. 9:23-24).”

Bread Crumbs “Christian Liberty” January 11

There are many liberties that we are called to hold to as believers. None are freedoms that we have paid for, earned, or even deserve. Each and every one of them was paid for by Jesus Christ as He offered Himself as a sacrifice for lost humanity at Calvary. Though the list of victories won far surpasses what time and space allow me here, let me highlight a few powerful benefits afforded to all who will dare to believe that these benefits are theirs for the claiming! Freedom from sin - Jesus paid the price to free us from the penalty, the power, and (one day) the presence of sin. Freedom from Law - Jesus gave us His righteousness so that we would no longer be accountable to the law as the means to righteousness. Freedom from the World - We have access to grace that frees us from the desire for worldly pursuits! Freedom from the devil - He has destroyed the devil’s power through death. Freedom from Self - He has freed us from the dominating desires to please “me.” All these benefits are available to those who access them daily through faith in the finished work of Christ. Stand fast in the liberty that Christ died to provide!

John 8:36 - If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 30:30
A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;

The first thing listed which goes well and is comely in their goings is the lion which is the strongest among beasts. Going well, speaks of living in the order and the power given us of the Lord. The lion roars and everything in the forest trembles. Nothing stands against him, and he turns not away from anything.

Judah was called the lion’s whelp by his father Jacob (Genesis 49:9), and of course all the patriarchs born of Jacob are a type and shadow of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer to some degree. Jesus is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah because He was born of that tribe, and He would roar as the Lion from the cross to be heard all over the world. Judah also means praise, and Jesus is God’s only object of praise given among men! Just as the lion in the forest which is the strongest, and nothing stands against Him, nor does He turn away from any, so is our Jesus as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He is our conquering King, Lion and Lamb, and He lives within our hearts! All because of what He did at Calvary, His roar sent the devil and every demon trembling! Can you still hear His roar today?

“And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a Burnt Offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen (Gen. 22:13-14).

The name, “Jehovah-Jireh,” means “the LORD will see” or “provide.”

Provide what?

He will provide a Redeemer, which all of this, as it regards the proposed offering of Isaac, represented.

The great test of Faith which the Lord required of Abraham, as it regards the proposed offering up of his son Isaac, was for the purpose of telling the great Patriarch how mankind would be delivered. It would be by and through the Death of God’s Only Son, of which Isaac was a Type.

However, as the Lord told Abraham of the manner of Redemption, which would be by death, He did not tell him how this death would be brought about, which would be by the Cross. That information would be given to Moses some 400 years later (Num. 21:8-9).”

Bread Crumbs “Trust in the Lord” January 12

Are you living through a time of devastating disappointment? Has what you thought the future held failed to come to pass? Has something you thought was extremely secure been ripped from your unsuspecting grasp? Does the loss seem so great and so hard that there is no hope in your heart of recovery? Sometimes God has to prepare us for something new by taking away something old. We cannot see the future benefit when this happens. We cannot even vaguely picture the new “bright spot” in our future. But God can! God knows what is best and God is weaving the precious fabric of your life into a dynamic and marvelous tapestry. He is preparing you for that future blessing through the hurt you feel today. So do not despair while living through these moments! Do not let your attitude about today ruin the new tomorrow that God has planned. Trust Him and you will see! Trust Him and you will learn! God had it all figured out long before that first hurt ever hit your heart. Be still and allow God to continue His wondrous work by keeping your faith in Him. Continue to trust in the One who will never fail you!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 30:32
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

Note here where the foolish and evil comes from. THE HEART. It is out of the heart all evil comes forth (Matthew 15:19, Mark 7:21), and it is the mouth that speaks out of the abundance of the heart (Matthew 12:34). Men do not know their own hearts, which are deceitful ABOVE ALL THINGS and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). The ANSWER FOR ALL EVIL is only what Christ provided for us in His death at Calvary, and when we place our faith there alone, we find ourselves and everything about us made new (Ezekiel 36:26, 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Pride will always be brought low, while humility will always receive grace to be lifted up in the things of God so that Christ can be exalted. Never forget that humility is not emotions, good manners, or anything of that sort, but only that heart which is found believing unto righteousness (Romans 10:10), which if faith in Christ and His death, as that is the ONLY avenue of finding God’s grace (Galatians 2:21) given to the humble. The humility, and the obedience we have is that which began in and remains IN CHRIST (Philippians 2:8), and there we find God’s grace as sufficient!

Your Word for Today

“And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray you, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day your birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he swore unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob (Gen. 25:30-33).

The birthright was to go to the firstborn. In this case, it was Esau. It pertained to the Father’s Blessing involving Supremacy. It also included a Double Portion of the family estate. Last of all, it concerned the Domestic Priesthood.

The Domestic Priesthood meant that the oldest son acted as Priest for the family and offered the Sacrifices which God had commanded Adam and his sons to offer. Officiating the Sacrifices meant that the firstborn knew and understood that this was a symbol of the Coming Redeemer. But the Scripture says that Esau had no regard for any Coming Redeemer. He was interested only in the now and present. So it would not be as was intended, “The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Esau.” Esau had no faith in that of which we speak.

Jacob, deplorable as was his character, valued Divine and Eternal Blessings. So he tried to purchase the Birthright; he found, to his dismay, that such cannot be done. God has nothing for sale. Everything He has is a “Gift” (Jn. 3:16). Had Jacob placed himself in God’s hands at the beginning, the Prophecy made to his mother before he was born (Gen. 25:23) would have been fulfilled to him without the degradation and suffering which his own scheming brought upon him.

Regrettably, the entirety of the world and most of the Church, as Esau, have no regard for the birthright, i.e., “the Cross of Christ.” And then the few in the Church who do regard the birthright, i.e., “the Cross,” all too often try to obtain it by means other than Faith.

It can be gained only by Faith (Rom. 5:1).”

Bread Crumbs “Fellowship with the Spirit” January 13

I long to know the person of the Holy Spirit in a far more intimate way than I do now! I have known Him in the power of ministry. I have experienced His help during an explosive proclamation of truth. At times He has embraced me as a father might a child when I was unsure and afraid. He has encouraged me when my heart felt so despondent, I could barely breathe. He has led me when all about was darkness and... there seemed no sure path for my feet. He has exploded in my soul with joy unspeakable and full of glory! He has caused me to shout the praises of God and He has aided me to cry the tears of the repentant soul. But today, I simply long to walk beside Him, to learn more of Him and to learn more from Him; to experience all the extraordinary marvels of the God that I serve. I desire to be as two close friends walking down a backwoods country road, enjoying the sunshine and the fellowship received one with the other. No outside disturbance, no troubling thoughts, just an open heart and the willingness to hear what God has to say to me. Come Holy Spirit, I need thee!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 30:33
Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
...
Just as sure as the churning of milk brings forth butter, and the wringing of the nose, which refers to the squeezing with pressure to the nose brings forth blood, so the forcing of wrath will without doubt always bring forth strife. The forcing of wrath is someone in an attempt to get what they want, or what they think they ought to have, or what they think they ought to be able to do, with anger. The word, ‘wrath’ here refers to nose, and anger, so we can see this is as one who is snorting out wrath and anger to get what they want, and strife is always the result.
Never forget that where there is envy and strife, God says there is confusion and EVERY EVIL WORK (James 3:16). This doesn’t pertain to everyone but us, but us also. There are no exemptions from this taking place, therefore may we be found today trusting in Christ and His work of Righteousness at the cross for us. This is the only way that we can rest assured that He knows what’s best for us. Then when we aren’t getting what we call “Our way”, we can know we are in His Way! The Way of the Cross is the Way of Christ!
