There are three accounts dealing with the topic, Matthew 24:15-20 and Mark 13:14 - 18, but Luke adds an additional detail that make the abomination of desolation much clearer.

Luke 21: 21, 22 places this event in 70 AD:

[Luk 21:20-21 KJV] 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

““So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:15-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This was written seven hundred years before the messiah came to Jerusalem and said that abive

““Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭9:25-26‬ ‭NIV‬

seven hundred years later

““When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations.

Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭21:20-22, 24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The times of the gentiles means the time that God will offer all the nations of gentiles, his kingdom that they rejected

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God created our bodies as a living Ark of the Covenant.Arms and legs are the Poles of the Ark, and the two cherubim, his Two Witnesses of Revelation are the water, and the blood.
Our first birth is of the water but we must be born of the water and the Spirit.Which only comes by the water and the blood.
Jesus is the head of the Church. He is the blood.

To those who don't have the Holy Spirit sitting on the mercy seat are an abomination. That's the abomination of desolation.Satan sits on the mercy seat declaring himself as god.
When the testimony of the Two Witnesses come from the 144,000 that's the last chance those who are still of the world have to repent.

Matthew 24:15-16
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand) ,then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains.

The understanding of this verse is when you see/hear the testimony of the Two Witnesses, flee with them.Flee with the 144,000.That's what flee into the mountains really means.Repent.
Look at my blog to see what I mean by the 144,000 being mountains cause that's the reason why I made it.Othewise I'd be explaining certain things over and over again.Just makes things easier.

You know what's crazy?Tptb are the ones who're gonna flee into literal mountains in hidden bunkers and the mountains will fall on them, and they will die. Those who flee with the 144,000 will die a spiritual death, and be born again.

Here's another spiritual truth that happens on the 6th seal.

Revelation 6:15
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains.

It means the same thing.Repent.
God saved my life one time.More than once.I've tried to count how many times but when I started counting to thirty it was too much to bare.
But this one time he saved me I could hear his voice speaking the Revelation 6:15 verse and back then I didn't understand why he would use that verse for that particular situation. He covered me in his Holy Mountain.

K,think back on Egypt. They fled Egypt with 2 Witnesses,Moses, and Aaron into the mountains,Mount Sinai and repented. Some did anyways.
When it comes to eschatology, there is hardly anything worse than spiritualizing the mark and then using actual real physical objects and events to illustrate it.

If you are going to believe it literally, then the mark is actually about something in the right hand or forehead. If you are going to spiritualize it, then keep it in the spiritual realm - because, at that point, no actual real physical objects or events belong or should be associated with it.

"Just sayin'..."

The natural and the physical are intertwined but the natural typically appears first.

"And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man."

For man, the natural has already appeared. If he/she is alive during the time of the Mark of the Beast they will either bear the image of the Son of His Love, Christ, or the man of sin, the son of perdition.

"Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

Furthermore, spiritual reality is a greater reality than that of the natural. The natural will pass away but many things in the spiritual are eternal and will never pass away.

the point was ( my opinion ) is that the mark of the beast should be thought of biblically and in tbe bible are many examples of marks on foreheads d hands names on forwards and hands ect and if we see what those things mean consistently then the mark of the beast should be understood the same way in the vision
I wonder if the folks who push the it-must-be-just-like-the-biblical-examples idea have ever considered the possibility of a physical representation of those examples being pushed upon very physical people in a very physical world.

what do you suggest the abomination of desolation in matthew 24:15 is?
I believe that what is said in the Matthew and Mark accounts of the Olivet Discourse concerning the abomination of desolation is a reference to the actual AoD in 167 B.C. - being used to illustrate what is said in the Luke account.

Well, sure - but, why would anyone need to go from physical to spiritual and then back to physical? If/Once it is spiritual, it is beyond physical - no need to go back...

A spiritual meaning arrived at from a physical illustration does not thereafter need to be represented in the physical.
