Matthew 26:6-13. "Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon, the leper, There came unto Him a woman having an alabaster box of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head, as he was eating. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, to what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, an given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done,be told for a memorial of her."

*** Questions to consider*** 1. Didn't the disciples have a point? 2. Are you being criticized for pouring your " anointment" on Jesus? 3. Did you notice what Judas did after Mary's act? 4. Why did Jesus make this act of such importance?

1. what the disciples say is true that we should give charity to the poor but the problem is, the attitude of the disciple is not a sincere attitude and Jesus knows it. On the contrary, Jesus knows the sincerity of the heart of Mary (Matt 26: 10-11 ), Jesus said that the act of Mary is good.
means :
True, we must help the poor, but we must not blame the person who expresses his love as Mary. Our best gift is a gift based on our great love for Jesus Christ. Love always expresses itself in a different way.

3. what Judas do is : to go to the chief priests and make an agreement to arrest Jesus (Matt 14: 10)

4. Jesus proclaims His approaching death (John 10:11, 17. 18, Matt 16:21, 17:22, 20:18) but it seems that his disciples ignore it
(Matt 16:22) on the contrary, Mary believes it. He apparently realized that if the disaster had happened, there was no time to give the usual respect.
For Mary there will never be another chance to do that. And Jesus knows the purpose and purpose of Mary (Matt 26:12) That is why Jesus gave the Great Praise to Mary.
(As is well known, the anointing performed by Mary is the only anointing done on the body of Christ, this can be seen when the women who went to the tomb to anoint His body but discovered that the tomb was empty.)

God set this maria action very important because,
Mary has set a better example of how believers should serve Christ. His actions revealed his deep devotion and earnest love to his Lord. Christian belief is primarily our personal service to Him. Through this event we learn that a heartfelt loyalty and a genuine love for Jesus is the most valuable aspect of our relationship with Him

Good post,,, IMO the ointment happen three times by three different women in Bethany representing the three days from crucifixion to risen.

at Martha's house by her sister Mary.

at Simon the leper's house by a woman who's name isn't mentioned.
A lepra is someone who has the condition and A leper is someone who makes alabaster jars or sell them.

At the Pharisee’s house by a sinful woman who's name isn't mentioned.

They may of had a point but their vision was myopic as they failed to realize the significance of her act.

Modern English translation.

Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table.8 And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, Why this waste?9 For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me.11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.12 In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial.13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

We know in the O.T. that anointing with oil represented the anointing of the H.S.....to me it symbolizes an act of faith.....! Obviously amongst other things as well.....!

Indeed I agree, IMO the account in John 12 is speaking more on that event at Martha's house in that Lazarus was also present at the dinner in honor of Jesus. Martha and her sister Mary and Lazarus are all from Bethany as mentioned in John 11:1

John 11:1
Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

the dinner at Martha's house is mentioned in two gospels john 12 and Luke 10

in the Gospel Luke mentions both anointments one in Luke 7 the sinful woman and the other in Luke 10 at Martha's house.
The sinful woman anointment account is mentioned in Luke at Simon the Pharisees house. Simon was a popular name back then, hence Jesus calls one of His disciples "Simon Peter". quite afew Simons around as well as a few Mary's and Johns etc..

Mark and Mathew speak on the anointment from a woman who came to Simon the leper house.

IMO these anointments happen in the first three days one each day upon Jesus arrival at a village aka Bethany near Jerusalem six days before the Passover "day of preparation" on which Jesus was crucified.

Luke 10 and John 12 account at Martha's house

Jh12:1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

Lk10:38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village (Bethany) where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
Jh12:2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.
Lk10:39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.
Lk10:40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
Lk10:41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things,
Lk10:42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
Jh12:3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Jh12:4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected,
Jh12:5 "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages.
Jh12:6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
Jh12:7 "Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "[It was intended] that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.
Jh12:8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

Jh12:9 Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
