Cool....a Greek back in Jesus and Paul's day would have said " I was going to the market to find the perfect avocado but I "metanoia" ( changed my mind and thinking ) and went to the Farmer's Market instead."

Regardless of the intent of the OP, I think it's important that people see what true biblical repentance is and is not.
Then I would recommend we open a thread on repentance, and not a thread disguised as repentance. but in reality, a hate thread on a group of people..

Open one i will follow you

HRFTD thinks he has coined himself yet another cute little dirty word to call those who believe in the grace of our Lord Jesus..... the "hyper" (beyond anything we can hope for or imagine) glory and loving grace of God. Sad little mind.

someone open another thread if we want to discuss repentance.. And lets pray, Even though I am sure we will disagree, We can have an actual discussion of ideas, not a discussion of groups..

and then lets please let this thread die,, Or maybe CS1 can close it? (prety please)

Or we can do as God does, take what is meant for evil and turn it to good? :)

I understand your frustration bro, really I do.

MY idea of TRUE repentance is being truly and sincerely sorry for your sins, and repenting of them with sincere repentance, and not just as a ritual to make sure God forgives you. :)

A change in your behavior without a change in your thinking is meaningless. It's just you sitting at the table eating your peas because you were told to, but all the while standing up and shaking your fist on the inside.
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver(2 Corinthians 9:17).
[SUP]
16
[/SUP]For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel![SUP]17 [/SUP]For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me(1 Corinthians 9:16-17).

Some people can have the behavior, but their thinking might not necessarily like it,but they go along because they want salvation, and do not want to offend God.

Interesting subject - the word translated as repentance has many versions in the old testament.

Now I know in german the real meaning of a word is only clear at the end of the sentence.

Now to my thinking how can repentance be used about comfort for grief, regret about an action
and repentance over sin and getting right with God.

It seems the translators depending on context use different english words to bring out their
interpretation.

Now I know I can feel sorry for many things, but why and how much depends on what it is.
If I say I feel sorry it conveys an emotional state. As God cannot repent because He cannot sin,
for Him to regret something on a similar emotional feeling to the way we repent over sin, could be
the meaning the writer is after.

I have to be careful because in reality this is God expressing His feelings. I feel humbled that He
wants to be so open with us in this regard.

Now to my mind to say we can reduce repentance down to just changing our minds, because God
expresses the same level of emotional regret over an action, is diluting what sin is and the damage it
does to our soul. Sin is death, in rots what we are and the beauty of love.

If you ever see a vulnerable loving person who is married and betrayed by their husband fold up and
go away deeply wounded you will understand how much like murder such a betrayal actually is.

I am always amazed at how man tends to reduce the real impact, because then they can live ourselves
and not take action. But that is the problem with spiritual blindness.

Here is my $.02 - for whatever it is worth . . .

I looked through this thread quickly - and it surely did disintegrate quickly . . .

My opinion - I think some did not give the thread even a chance - So when you saw HeRosefromthedead started it! Were you biased immediatedly?

I would suggest even if you don't agree - that you listen, read, and be open - and maybe you can learn something about repentance to add to your understanding . . .

I doubt people were even trying to read or understand what the other was saying . .

I remember when I first really saw how much it cost Christ in my terms to die for me.
It blew my mind. It was like trampling on all the things I tried to say were good, and making them
feeble, empty. It was like finding the most precious thing in the whole world and knowing it was mine.

I have never been the same since. What was strange is to know how sinful I am but compared to
Christ it is life. I then understood Pauls comment "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain."

Amen. The most remarkable comment was "Saying 'this group teaches this or that' is hate speech." Extraordinary.

I disagree.

The thread disintegrated when HRFTD made these comments in his first post.

So I did a search for gnosticism + metanoia, and was stunned to find that it is the foundational principle of gnosticism. For example:
Christ then took a human form (Jesus), to teach humanity how to achieve Gnosis. The ultimate end of all Gnosis is μετάνοια metanoia, or repentance—undoing the sin of material existence [wrong identity] and returning to Pleroma [the fullness of the godhead].

So what I'd like to do with this thread is show the similarity between the gnostic and hyper grace concepts of metanoia; they are virtually identical. But I want to do it in a fun way. So as I find new material I'll post a quote from a source and ask the question - Gnosticism or Hyper grace? - and let everyone try to decide. Here's the first:

Gnosticism or Hyper grace?
When the texts in the Old Testament were eventually translated into English, the Greek word metanoia was translated as ‘repentance’. However, this word actually signifies much more than simply asking for forgiveness of sins. It literally means ‘to change your mind’.... The second coming is the raising of our consciousness to that of the Christ. But, as we make an effort to change our minds, it is expected that, occasionally, we will miss the mark. Christ is the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Christ.
when he made those comments, It changed from being a thread opened to discuss what repent means, to a hate/attack thread against those he terms to be hypergrace believers.

If he would have left those comments out, This thread may have had a chance.
