I am reporting this post, Mr Jens, you should be ashamed of yourself and BTW there's no two step process involved in salvation

ONE way-Jesus
Well...some believe this. They believe that there IS a condition and that condition, they believe, is to keep abiding, to remain in Him. Some do believe we can throw away our salvation. Isn't it the neverending debate? OSAS vs. NOSAS?

That's right. The problem is as Luther said, "The sin underneath all our sins is the lie of the serpent that we cannot trust the love and grace of Christ and that we must take matters into our own hands.”
Amen..the serpent also appealed to Eve's sense of wanting to be good - the problem is they wanted to be good without God and that's just what self-righteousness reveals and in essence attempts to accomplish..

If you are in Christ and Christ is in you then He's already given you everything you truly desire. The rest is just gravy.
HaH! If He gave me all I desired on earth, I would be running amok! ;)
He hasn't given me everything I've desired. But He HAS given me what was very best for me to make me more and more like Himself!

I can try to wrassle that!
I think...it means...along the same lines of, a good father does not give his son a stone when he asks for bread.
If we see every hardship as something that has to be from satan because it is very awful to us, we are seeing wrong. We are missing something/things.

Instead of believing He will allow great bad and harm to befall us, we must believe it is bread and nourishment for us but that it only APPEARS to be hard like a stone.

What one saw as hell, another saw as...nourishment for growth.

Complete projection of your hyper grace worldview (all works are done by self and evil), but not biblical. Eve wanted what her eyes, flesh and soul longed for.

And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Genesis 3:6

I am laughing! They don't know how to read but know the scriptures better than some who read them all the time! They heard the Gospel and met and received the Holy Spirit who guides to all truth! :)

I have met many men who are so well versed in theology but have never met or received this Spirit! It makes you laugh with wonder...:D
:smoke: and perhaps we would believe
that all of this were also true
as true as the story in the holy scriptures

Acts 4:13
After they found out that Peter and John had no education or special training, they were surprised to see how boldly they spoke. They realized that these men had been with Jesus.

Hi Jaybird88

No, its because there are different versions .Because in its original autographs it is God's perfect law that can quicken our souls and give us simply ones his understanding. Without it, as it is written we can know nothing of the God who wrote it with his finger. Therefore there would be no way to seek after Him who has no form so that we could understand Him .
no one will disagree that the original source books for the bible are His word. however the books we use today are not of those source books.
with that being said its all the more reason to put your faith in Jesus and what He taught and not in a book you dont know where it came from.

This is where we put the scriptures in context as you can see when we actually consider what went on before verse 6.

Taking one scripture out of context - we can make it say anything we want...stringing different unrelated scriptures together with each one out of context is another way of making our own stuff up.

As we can see by verse 5 - the appeal was to be like God...if we eat from that tree we can be like God and thus would not really need to be dependent on God. Sounds a lot like the very root of self-righteousness.

Genesis 3:5-6 (NASB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

[SUP]6 [/SUP] When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Hmm...well, truth is truth whether it's in the bible, or even in a fictional story. I mean, you cannot tell a love story without some sort of sacrifice. If you try, you might wind up with a story, but it won't be a love story. You cannot tell an action story without the framework of good vs evil. Though you can try to blur the line between the two a little bit, with humanistic ideas.

But it seems the story about the man who took all of the evil inside himself and was never seen again so we could be good could be softly challenged. You could take their own national examples of evil men (like their Hitler or Stalin or Jeffrey Dahmer, etc.) and show that this man in their story did not achieve his goal to make us all good. This could lead to the gospel and the one good man...you could converse with them and tell them you know of an even better man than that.
Or just go the route of saying you know the true and complete story of this man who took all the evils of the world onto Himself so we could find our way to God...but that He CAN be seen again by those who believe and who go to Him.

Peter, if you come back, I had a few thoughts upon waking this morning I want to share with you.
Just because you see that something is a bit wrong in someones belief framework does not mean they are heretics.
They are on a journey to know God better just like you are.
We all have some wrong thoughts and supposings, me and you included.
We don't have to get angry about that. We just ask God to show us.

I believe their thoughts (and when I say "their", I mean brothers who believe God does not ever want, or permit, us to ever be sick) are not right. I have seen with my own eyes and in my own experience that He purifies us through sufferings and sicknesses and ailments - both our own and others who we love.

I have seen the kicking and flailing and asking God WHY??! And I have also seen the purification that comes when we get to the place of calm peace and trust, even amid the sufferings.

But we can't beat each other up. If someone is not ready to bear this truth, God will see to it when they are ready.

I have seen other things also that they believe that I in no way agree is correct. But I trust God to correct them. As for me, I look for whatever is lovely, whatever we both know and agree on, whatever can strengthen us together.

We ALL have some wrong thoughts about God, Peter. But walking in love is what our Lord commands.
Paul always prayed that GOD would give those who were in his care, (babies) the SPIRIT of wisdom and knowledge to better understand their GREAT SALVATION which is in CHRIST JESUS.

I thought to remind all of us of Philippians 3.

Philippians 3

1
Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.

2Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. 3For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Paul was a pharisee of pharisees, but he had to throw everything away to relearn the TRUTH of GOD, and all things he counted as dung that he might KNOW CHRIST and the POWER of HIS RESURRECTION...
This is NEVER to say that any of us take the GRACE of GOD as a license to sin...but we will be accused of doing so...Paul also spoke of those who say that we take the GRACE of GOD as a license to sin, and he said that their condemnation is deserved... (I hate to mention this, but this mysticism vs. righteousness...is very confusing and will confuse many who will think that those who trust by FAITH in CHRIST are somehow "imagining" that their salvation and righteousness is IN and BY and THROUGH HIM...that somehow these men are misrepresenting the NAME to which they belong...and GOD isn't fooled...HE already knows the hidden agenda of all our works...which is why we are told NOT to let our left hand know what our right hand is doing...

Once we do...once we "calculate our works" and how "great and righteous they are"...once we "announce our works"...we are simply professing a false sense of our own flesh and this is NOT the RIGHTEOUSNESS which is of FAITH and that faith in CHRIST and HIM ALONE...

4Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

What does that mean to be conformed to HIS death? It means exactly what Paul said: I fill up in my flesh what is lacking according to the afflictions of CHRIST...mortality must be swallowed up in immortality...
It simply means we DO "REST IN HIM"...in seasons of sun...and in seasons of rain...trusting in HIS SOVEREIGN control in all seasons...

The following is "THE GOAL"...it IS CHRIST in us who is our HOPE of GLORY...and GOD has made it that all those who HOPE in HIM are receiving THE GOAL of THEIR FAITH...EVEN THEIR SALVATION!
Which is why we do NOT fall back but press on to the saving of our soul!!!
And if any were to fall back, would HE be pleased?
No, because who builds and does not already count the cost?

12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

17Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Yes. The appeal was to be like God. This is also what I desire. To be more like God, more like Christ...strange...

I would agree. There is one verse that I wonder why it has not been paraphrased properly. In not doing so the Catholics for one turn things upside down by claiming they are an authority that loosens from earth and binds in heaven. Leaving God out of the picture.

I am not familiar with all the paraphrases but the Youngs literal translation gets it right taking away the misconceptions of the Catholics that they are a authority that can forgive sin and not that they like all Christians that have a have an authority of God as Christ in us in these earthen vessels of clay.. But never are we to think it is of us. That would be to Blaspheme his holy name by violating the first commandment. We are not to usup his authority by believing it could come after any man.Only God can forgive sin.

2Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

King James....Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

King James...Mat 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 and I will give to thee the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.'Math16 Youngs literal translation

18 `Verily I say to you, Whatever things ye may bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever things ye may loose on the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens. 'Math16 Youngs literal translation

18 Verily I say unto you, What things soever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and what things soever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Math16 ASV translation.

18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Math16 NIV

18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.New King james

18 I say to you truly, whatever things ye [shall] bind on earth, those shall be bound also in heaven; and whatever things ye [shall] unbind on earth, those shall be unbound also in heaven. [I say to you truly, whatever things ye shall bind on earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatever things ye shall unbind on earth, shall be unbound also in heaven.] Matthew 18 Wycliffe Bible

Why can't you tell them your story? They seem to be storytellers. Storytellers also like to hear stories.
Let me make more clear what I intended.
Do you remember when Paul came to a town where they had a stone set up and it was inscribed: To an unknown god?
He took advantage of that and said, hey! I KNOW this unknown God!
So what I was suggesting was to say to the people who have told you this story something like that. To say, oh! I know the rest of this story! I have met this man! You think he was never seen again, but some HAVE seen Him!!
