Exactly, Faith is not an ongoing work to keep salvation.

How much faith saves?

It takes a certain amount of self-righteousness to believe one can have enough faith to save oneself.

That is why salvation comes completely from God by Grace.....none of us can boast.

If one makes faith a work then one has some part in their own salvation.

It is insulting to the work of the cross and it demonstrates a lack of understanding of what it means to be justified.

Here is the thing...Paul said that all who think they are made complete by works after faith are fools and deceved...while pushing a false gospel that he neither preached and or endorsed....

Hi followingjesus.

I just want to say that I'm not sure that I agree with your first sentence, only because you seem to be saying you guys don't get something, I think those, us guys do get it but maybe translating it causes confusion.

I applaud the above, there are some points I would like to add but I won't because I don't want to detract from it.
That paragraph for me deserves a rep.

yeah man every word i speak isnt perfect, nor is the way i phrase or speak always understood. i used to on this site carefully try to organize and stuff but found it doesnt matter much here. you can quotes scripture alone and then your " twisting it" you can write with no scripture your told thats not in the bible and you need to use scripture . you can do both in a post and your told its misinterpreting it...... so i came to the conclusion that if God understnads what im saying and i know he approves im good with that.

so its okay when we dont agree on every sentance. you guys wasnt directed at anyone in particular Just those who think sin is not something that matters anymore because of the " cross" or that christians arent commanded to leave sin entirely, or that were not going to answer for those things we refuse to repent of.

God bless buddy im glad you found some small value in that, Peace be unto you

I bet it sounds lovely when you play it to Dcon...Have you noticed how much Grace is written all over this song, hence the title, maybe people who believe that works is what saves them needs to listen to this song...I agree we need to do works, but i believe our works are prompted by the Holy Spirit, lest any man should boast, but it is truly by Gods given Grace, we have been saved, Praise the Lord...\0/...xox...

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found.
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to feel
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers toils and snares
We have already come
'Twas grace that brought us safe that far
And grace will lead us home

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now I'm found.
Was blind, but now I see
How amazing is our God?

Over here we have a saying "There is no such thing as free lunch" it's too good to be a true lunch"

Lets look at what God says

Isaiah 55:1-3
Chapter 55
An Invitation to Abundant Life
1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
3 Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live;
And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—
The sure mercies of David.

I am not saying Jesus is an easy lunch ticket but he says "If you thirst and need water come to the living water, it's free, is you hungry and need to eat, I will feed you. It's all on me.

why are you trying to take me out to lunch, that doesn't satisfy me, but listen if you eat what is good then your soul will delight in the abundance I will give you.

That abundance is Jesus in us and it is in whom we delight. Then he direct our ways.

Not true. that is vague & incomplete.
heres some more clarity

john 15:8-11 "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

john 14:23-24 "Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

1 john 5:2-3 "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

to Love one another, is to act in the commandments of God. thats why Jesus is saying " My commandment is that you Love one another" its not that it nullifies the commandments, its a summary of what were doing when we keep the gospel ministry of Jesus. which if we do that we will be Loving others. the " catch phrase" Love one another doesnt disqualify the commandments it summarizes what the commandments are because Love has to be true

1 john 3:18-22 "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 19And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. 20For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. 21Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

romans 13:9-10 "
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.Paul isnt saying forget the commandments and just love, hes saying love thy neighbor as thyself is a summary a way to breifly understand what the commandments are, that to keep the commandments is Love for others How we treat others. Love isnt a feeling that replaces the Word of God, Jesus is saying the same thing when He says "this is my commandment that you Love one another" this doesnt then nullify all of His teachings and commands, it again is Jesus saying my commands my teachings are how to Love one another. theres no seperating the commandments, teachings from Love God is Love and Jesus teaches us Love Like the commandments do.

the commandments are what not to do in order to Love one another, and the gospel is what to do to Love one another. its Gods Love we must express, not human Love saying i love you or speaking nice words, Love is when you see a person in need, and do all you can to help that person. you lay your own desire down and act on thier behalf Like Jesus did.

Luke 10 :26-37 "
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 28And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. 29But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.31And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 34And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? 37And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

are you comparing salvation to a free lunch meaning that salvation is given like a picknick ... and salvation is a free lunch where by you dont have to do works once youve been saved... should we also leave a mess after the picknick too ?

Colossians 1:21-23 has NOTHING to do with degree of rewards, it has to do with being presented acceptable before Christ at judgment. And...we are presented acceptable before Christ at judgment "if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel." (vs 23) This is just like Hebrews 10:39 - "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls." You can't shrink back from something you weren't first in. Eternal life is for those who persevere in faith. Revelation 3:21 - "To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne." Only those victorious, who persevere. And how do we do that? 1 John 5:4, "And this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith."

What am I not understanding?

You just said this in another post.

So you are saying that the finished work of the Cross of Jesus Christ has given us grace to follow the law? I think here is the basis for our disagreement.
Actually, it's not off topic.

It reveals how and why Jesus spoke and acted how He did.

He said, He only did what He saw, and said what He heard.

We being His body on earth are led by His Spirit and empowered by grace which is unmerited by any work other than His, and is also His Holy Spirit within, or the divine influence upon our heart, that reflects in our life, and causes gratitude.

So what are our works? The result of living and moving and having our being in Him. Who does the works? The empowerment of Holy Spirit. To which one will never hear the words, depart...I never knew you.

And am fully persuaded that iniquity is darkness. That which is found in Lucifer. And the world.

Also is a process...found in 1John, babe, young men, and fathers.
there is also though The Word that has the power to create in us. its not just grace, its also believing Gods Word not just this word or that word but all of the Gospel. it doesnt just because we Know God is Good and Loves us that doesnt Just then force us to act right. think of children have you ever Known a single mother that is good to Her kids, so good she doesnt correct thier bad behavior? the more she allows, she is really teaching them thats ok, no big Deal you can do no wrong. i have known mothers and fathers like that and honestly thier children do not ever Behave properly. in truth discipline, teaching right and wrong, correcting, thats a huge part of a loving parent. as are all the warnings people give to thier children of dangerous things that will harm them.

God is an amazingly good Father yes beyond question He Loves us, is good to us is full of Grace towards us. but thats not what teaches and trains and corrects and rebukes, and those hings are a part of a parents Love. at times Love is stern it has to be because the parent is wiser and understands the end result of bad behavior. it doesnt make God a bad guy because He commands repentance and obedience its for our good, grace is but one element of the gospel there is also the word of truth.

were warned and warned about things ahead based on our deeds. that is also Love. God isnt saying ill crush you if you make a mistake and wont Love you anymore, Hes saying this raging eternal fire is coming and these things are what will lead you there, stop turn around Hear my Words Son, i Love you, come Home from the Mire and slop. all i have is yours but if you remain in the pig pen you will starve and be a bum when you are really a prince, turn from your error and sin come Home beloved Child.

we Know from the prodigal parable that God doesnt send servants out to bind and carry Hoime His lost son, He waits looking for the day His son is headed Home from that sorrow he feels when he realizes His Father Loves Him and will take Him back if He goes to Him. and when the son comes into sight while he is still a long ways off, His Father suprises Him by running quickly to Hius Son full of Joy. the son had thought He would let Him be a servant if He went home probably thought His father was mad or didnt Like him a whole lot anymore.

But what Happens? His father throws His arms around His Son that had done so much wrong, kisses him in Jpoy that His Son finally came Home, finally realized where He belongs. He tells His servants ( while his son is trying to explain Himself) the father isnt really even listening hes telling His servants to go get the best robe and the family ring and put it on Him. Gods One desire is that we turn from the slop and mud and get up and start the journey Home. He is calling sinners to repentance so that He can clothe them with the robes of righteousness and eternal Glory, and Give them the name of " the children Beloved deeply of God Himself"

us who lived so long in the mire, us who demanded our inheritance and left our father to go live as we chose. that path ends in mud and eating slop. the son was still a prince but look what His own will had done to Him. we do have a part in this God is there calling His voice echoes through the univers calling for His Lost children living in the mire to turn towards Home. to do that we have to realize how far from Hime we have chosen to go we have to crumble like He did when he realized His circumstance was His fault alone, and then realize God Loves us He has never Not Loved us, He will never turn us away when He sees us coming Home. but also He will not tie us and drag us Home God respects our free will to choose Our destiny, its Just that He has provided for an eternal destiny and given us the heed that is not quiet it is bouncing off the furthest star and echoing through the depthes of the earth, its is falling in the rain, and rising in the Mist and fog, its in every Hime every cave, every jungle on every continent........COME HOME AND BE WHO YOU ARE BE WITH ME I LOVE YOU COME HIME DEAR ONE I HAVE ALL THINGS READY COME HOME

Blood and resurrection is the only thing that makes me acceptable at the Judgement. The work of Jesus to save the world.

And this is not the great white throne judgement. The judgment seat of Christ.
