Amen, it is the work of God within us that produces fruit because we are saved. We cannot save ourselves by any work or do any work good enough to keep ourselves saved, but through Jesus we are safe secure and can rest assure:)

So you agree we have the responsibility to hold onto the new by faith, correct?
Everybody knows that we don't have to hold onto the old. That's not even in debate.

Did you have to hold on to your humanity when born and growing? Why would you have to hold on to your new birth and growth?

Here is a song to get the workers off to a, well, off to a start this morning. Good luck (well, anyhow, you know what I mean)!

Chorus:
I'm comin' up on the rough side of the mountain,
I must hold to God, His powerful hand.
I'm comin' up on the rough side of the mountain,
I'm doin' my best to make it in

And also the funny thing is, this idea that the Lord will send me to hell because I do not
believe He has no principles or laws. Sounds quite conditional and demanding to me, or
in your words, brutal. It is why I cannot accept this position and just listen to Him.
This is also faulty reasoning; God does not, "send anyone to hell", well meaning folks who want to sit around the campfire and sing Kumbaya will go to hell of their own doing because they reject the one and only Savior that can keep them from that dreadful place. "Love is;" God stooping all the way down from heaven to die on a Cross in our place for our sins. we all deserved hell but God's Grace prevailed. There are some that just cannot fully understand God's Love. He is not just a God of love but a God justice and some will laugh and minimize this as well to their own misfortune.

From the, Sermon on Mars Hill;

"For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead." Acts17:32

No, actually sponge believe = the following....the word obedience is not found in the definition of the word....again your embellishment to push what the bible does not push........and the thread is about biblical salvation not service which you cannot help but conflate....because deep down you really only believe in self salvation......

pisteuó: to believe, entrust
Original Word: πιστεύω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: pisteuó
Phonetic Spelling: (pist-yoo'-o)
Short Definition: I believe, have faith in
Definition: I believe, have faith in, trust in; pass: I am entrusted with
the wisdom of men is folly.....you can make the bible say whatever you want, then by superstition (the power of suggestion) you perceive it to be so..........

Seriously, 'never' is not in the passage: https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/1jo/2/1/t_conc_1161019

The person who leaves the faith is obviously showing they didn't believe when they left. It's not right to add to the passage and say they 'never' believed and that's why they left. The passage doesn't say that. It only says their leaving showed they did not believe. Nothing is said about if they ever believed, or never believed. Obviously, if they did believe they would not leave the faith. You can't believe and leave the faith at the same time, lol.
I know that if I had children, I'd never let you within 100 miles of them with a bible in your hands.

The reason why I remain saved is because He clings onto me harder than I do Him. When I sin, I realize what I did was an affront to Him. Yet, He said While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.[John 17:12] He also said and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.[John 10:28] And then there is Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me."[Isaiah 49:16]

He who saved me, is able to keep me saved. As Apostle Paul so poignantly wrote For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.[2 Timothy 1:12]

Apparently these ladies didn't heed this verse's warning...

As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;[Ephesians 4:14]

"Belief is how you access the mercy of God in salvation" (Romans 5:2). No faith, no access to the power of God to keep you for the coming Day of Salvation (1 Peter 1:5).
Belief: "is not", how you access the "mercy" of God in salvation.

Mercy is; God not giving us what we do deserve, "hell". - and; it is God's Sovereign will to whom He will bestow Mercy.

Grace is; God giving us what we do not deserve, eternal salvation" -- and this is freely given to those who believe.

Point:
The opposite is true of which is stated in the post above; belief is not how we access,
the mercy of God;

It is through Jesus that we have gained access, by faith, into this grace in which all believer's, now stand. "Rom5:2" The poster is confusing God's Grace, with, God's Mercy.

"through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:2

First comes God's Grace through faith; then comes God's mercy. - see how that works,
belief, faith, grace, then mercy. The posters exegesis on Romans 5:2 is wrong.

"For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." So then, it does not depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy." Romans 9:15,16

If you start out with a wrong premise; how to access God's mercy, you will always come to a false conclusion.

God bless

If God had a line on the ground and made the promise that who ever stands on this side of the line will always be safe and no one will hurt or take them away from me, i would say that is a great promise. But that doesn't mean that the person on Gods side can't chose to cross the line and enter the other side where they are no longer under Gods promised care.

God doesn't force us to be under His protection, God doesn't force us to be safe. God wants all to be saved but can't force any.
He does chose us but we are not forced to chose Him.

Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”[Matthew 7:26,27]

Are you relying on God or yourself? If you're relying on yourself and your own ability to remain saved, then you're like this house..."Performance on a poor foundation."

Unless the Christ is your foundation, you have no foundation. For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.[1 Corinthians 3:11]

Hi Sov,

What you appear to be saying putting the words of Jesus into action is not trusting Him.
But Jesus said these things, did these things and commanded us to follow which is performance
while trusting in Him, listening to our hearts and consciences.

Now man will always find excuses not to do anything. This appears what you are saying.

A joke

Quote Jesus saying do these things and you are a wise person, and then saying Jesus meant
trust Him and do not do.

Now that is absurd. Imagine walking rojund a reservoir. A sign says do not swim, walk round.
People strip off and start swiming and die, while those who walk round, which takes longer
live. Who listened to the sign? Those who swam said it was only put there to test your faith.

Who is Jesus?
Who saves us?
Whose words take faith and love to follow?

Yet you say He is being sarcastic and did not mean what He said.
It is hard things because we are so lost and it is so alien to our hearts
but we do not know why. That is the nature of sin and rebellion.
It is the essence of sacrifice and carrying a cross, because we need to
learn and discipline ourselves, for this is our King.
Praise the Lord, in Him there is no compromise.

Howdy!! :D :)

What you appear to be saying putting the words of Jesus into action is not trusting Him.
Nope.

But Jesus said these things, did these things and commanded us to follow which is performance
while trusting in Him, listening to our hearts and consciences.
And those who are truly His will do them. I trust God's word when Apostle Paul wrote For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.[Philippians 1:6]

Now man will always find excuses not to do anything. This appears what you are saying.
Nope.
