NO, I do not think so. If he is as old as he says he is, it is entirely possible, that is the way he was taught. I have run across that before. They actually think that the KJV is the ONLY INSPIRED VERSION of the Bible, and therefore, it should not be touched.
Years ago, I was in a Local Christian Book Store, when the owner was the only employee there during the Lunch Hour. She had a Line at the Cash Register, when an elderly lady came in looking for a new Bible. I knew the OWNER very well, and she new me, so she asked me, "Could you show the Bibles to my Customer here." I said yes, and I politely ask which Version of the Bible she wanted; and she responded, "It has to be the KJV, because after all that is the Language my LORD spoke." I politely tried to tell her that Jesus spoke Hebrew, Greek, and maybe some Aramaic that he would have learned during HIS school years. She turned and walked out of the store.
Those of that generation, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt, because there were not a lot of Seminary Graduates, in those days, and some Churches hired those with no Bible College degrees too. THUS, the concept that the KING JAMES VERSION was the ONLY INSPIRED Version of the Bible, was common place; when all it was intended to be was a Paraphrase updating older archaic language expression, and correcting some KNOWN ERRORS.
I have show you this before, but this is for the benefit that those who have never seen this before:
