Wrong. Grace is not just a position, it is what ACTIVELY saves us.
For by Grace you are saved.

Romans 3:22
22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.
It's the gift of righteousness as a result of faith.
Grace is the source of salvation and faith is the channel.
The thief on the cross was not saved by grace.
He was saved as a result of grace offered and placed his faith Jesus.
