What are the commandments in the New Covenant?

John tells us exactly what they are. From these - all the life and love of God will be manifested.

1 John 3:23 (NASB)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.
What does it mean to love one another?

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness

For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not.
The gospel teaches death of the old fleshly man and Resurrection of God's children who follow the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8
11If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesusd from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
12So then, brothers,e we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

***

Part of salvation/sanctification is the Holy Spirit teaching us to overcome sin and live godly lives now,

What does it mean to love one another?
Tons of stuff. Be lead by the Spirit of God and the love that is in us will be manifested depending on the situation.

Focus on Christ and His love for us and then that love that is in us will be manifested to others.

We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

if we want to be filled with the fullness of God - we need to know the love of Christ. Paul's prayer for the Ephesians illustrates this.

Ephesians 3:16-19 (NASB)
[SUP]16 [/SUP] that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

[SUP]17 [/SUP] so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

[SUP]18 [/SUP] may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,

[SUP]19 [/SUP] and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Think long and hard about the following...and when THIS takes place....reference 1st Corinthians 15:42 and the timing of this....UNTIL THEN the verse (a) below is in force

(a) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesusd from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

In practical terms what does God's love move YOU to do on a day to day basis?

How has walking with the Holy Spirit changed your life?

How can people show God's love to others?

1Tim 4:
7 But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand,
discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; 8for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. 10For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.

Mat 24:
42“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43“But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44“For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.

45“Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46“Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 47“Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48“But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’ 49and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; 50the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, 51and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

slave - the Master's own servants
beat his fellow slaves - proves nor every servant of God is seeking perfection like some claim
weeping & gnashing of teeth - hell

faithful - those servants that are found
doing the Master's bidding when He comes. (faithful obedience)

50-51 Just because that person is his Master's servant doesn't mean he has a free ride reward.
:)

If we're saved, we are our Father's sons(servants), but that title doesn't guarantee a free ride into God's glorious presence.

God has expectations of His servants. The only sliding in scripture is
sliding back, not forward.
Heb 10:
35Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 37FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE,
HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.
38BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH;
AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
39But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.
The Jews were the Lord's witnesses and His "servant" whom He has chosen (Isaiah 43:10) but that does not mean they were ALL saved. Only those described as doing the Master's bidding were genuine believers. You must not confuse DESCRIPTIVE passages of Scripture with PRESCRIPTIVE passages of Scripture.

But WE are NOT OF THOSE who draw back to perdition, but OF THOSE who believe to the saving of the soul. Those who draw back to perdition do not believe to the saving of the soul and those who believe to the saving of the soul do not draw back to perdition.

See we differ for I believe our bodies are made holy temples that house the Holy Spirit and we should take care not to defile them. (yes eventually we will be glorified with Christ, but even before that we can strive to live godly lives now even in our current bodies).

I believe that God currently gives life to our mortal bodies through His Spirit and the war is not against ourselves but against the influences of the world and the lies we still need to identify and tear down in our minds. We need to learn self control and heavenly wisdom.

Luke 13:
And He was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching, and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem.
23And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, 24Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

1Cor 3:
16Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

Destroy doesn't sound like "saved", does it?

Paul is speaking to the church, BTW.

Jesus is the door and we enter THROUGH HIM (John 10:9). Jesus was not suggesting that we could merit heaven if we strive hard enough to work for it and earn it. The narrow gate is nonetheless difficult because of it's cost in terms of human pride which prevents the sinner from trusting exclusively in Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of their salvation. It's a struggle and an endeavor for sinner's to let go of their willful, habitual, sinful lifestyles and/or their self righteous works system and take hold of Christ through faith.

1 Corinthians 3:17 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

The preceding illustration about building on the foundation of Christ has been applied on an individual level to teach about people’s personal responsibility for their own actions (see note 3 at 1 Corinthians 3:13).

However, it must be remembered that in context, Paul was speaking about ministers and whether or not they were building up God’s church with the proper teaching (see note 1 at 1 Corinthians 3:10).

Therefore, Paul’s teaching here about defiling the temple of God is not speaking specifically to individuals doing something to defile themselves, but it is rather a warning against anyone defiling the church with wrong teaching.

This would include Paul and Apollos (1 Corinthians 3:5-6), but it also would refer back to those individuals whom Paul rebuked in the first chapter for causing division in the body at Corinth.

This is a warning especially for ministers, that they had better make sure they are speaking God’s Word for they will have to give an account to God.

Paul was saying that in the same way the Jews would not allow the physical temple in Jerusalem to be defiled, so should they have recognized that God will not allow His spiritual temple in people’s hearts to be defiled.

This is not speaking of God totally damning someone who defiles the temple of God.

Aargh that is the same reasoning folks use to deny eternal security..."it's not about individual it's just about teachers in the church"

It's about individuals in both cases.Andrew wommack is incorrect,

You are free to believe whatever you want. Reading the scripture in context stops a lot of crazy beliefs from happening - especially some church traditions that rob us of the truth that is in Christ.

So, are you "slandering" someone by declaring they're stuck in their traditions?

"He that judges does the same things".

I don't believe that Paul is talking about believers being destroyed, as some would suppose. One may argue that he who destroys God's temple (in this context, the church/body of Christ) is not part of God's people and will themselves be destroyed; just as God eventually destroyed the Babylonians who destroyed Solomon's temple.
