The life Christ gives is eternal. Eternal doesn't mean you still have it even if you don't continue to believe. It means the life you have through your believing will never end like it did under the old covenant of works.

Exactly. So don't lose that which guarantees what is to come! Keep believing in the Son, because only those who continue to believe have the Son. Those who don't have the Son because of unbelief don't have eternal life. See the 1 John 2:24, 5:12 verses in my last post.

The steadfastness he is talking about is continued faith in Christ. Don't let anyone deceive you into not believing in Christ anymore. I listed the scriptures for you that show the person who stops believing in Christ is not saved because he does not have Christ/ eternal life. He is not still saved as you insist. Telling people they can go back to unbelief and still be saved is what causes people to fall from the steadfastness of their faith in Christ.

1 John 2:24, 5:12 KJV
24...If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Mixing apples and oranges over and over.

You'd be better off going back to the old once saved always saved argument that said the person who fell back to unbelief and did not live for Christ was never saved to begin with. You did know that once saved always saved used to teach that you had to keep believing to the end to be saved, didn't you?
That is Lordship salvation doctrine, back door works, proof of salvation or else, promoted by MacArthur, I do not follow his teachings.

Salvation is secure because scripture states it is, and our behaviour or will is not the determining factor on the security of salvation, but completely because of Jesus, who in Hebrews is declared our High Priest, He is able to save forever,” or “to the uttermost.”

Pretty simple actually.

I agree with both of you but must place emphasis upon two absolute truths....

a. A believer has done works already in BELIEVING on the one that was SENT <---the works of the Heavenly Father
b. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness

The above two truths cannot be swept under the table nor can they be embellished with more than the truth that they represent.

HOW many works PROVE salvation, can ANY WORKS prove salvation?

LOST men do MANY wonderful works in the name of JESUS every day<---the MANY that come before the throne and some MEN DIE with ONE WORK....believing on the one whom was SENT.......FAITH saves regardless of any and all work
Reading through the thread found this.....so important ...bumping it forward!!

I might be doing this a lot as I read through... hope that is okay:unsure:

You work for your salvation?
Don't be silly. Salvation is a free gift, but growing in grace, which is wearing thin at the moment, and growing in love and knowledge of the Lord is a lifetimes work.

I am really finding all this very tedious, childish, and immature.

A gift that cannot be revoked, returned, lost or forsaken.

Thrust out of Eden into a world of wickedness where one of their sons killed another of their sons.

All this is very childish, but it fits the theology.

I doubt they will be in heaven despite hearing the Saviours voice.

Yes but... how does that connect to your idea that a saved person can loose their salvation?

When I was a child, I thought as a child..... then people grow-up and change, a loved one is killed perhaps and people lose faith in God..... it happens. People see their friend, guts all over the ground in battle, and they lose faith in God, I have seen it too often. You are very immature. Salvation is still there for the taking, but they want none of it. They reject the things of God.

It is people who change, not God.
