I wonder how many people actually believe God's promises?
it would be interesting to see what a poll of Christians who were aske this question what their repsonse would be.
As someone who loves to come alongside hurting damaged people whether Christian or not (and it's part of my ministry in my church) at some point I will ask the question.
Do you know that God loves you as much as he loves Jesus?
They all say something along the lines of the following.
"No I don't, why would he, I'm useless, I'm a sinner, I sin, I don't get it right, I can't be the person he tells me to be" and so on and so on.
Then I quote Jesus
John 17:22-23
And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
There you go Jesus himself says "I am in you, you are in me and you love them as much as you love me"
I have found when they start to believe this change happens, they actually start to believe in God's promises and movement happens in them.
We do Alpha Course at our church. I attend it because after the alpha course we offer alpha plus for those interested to explore more.
On one occasion I was sat next to a guy whose origins are Muslim.
The leader quoted John 3:16.
This guy turned to me and asked "Why would God love me?
All I could say was "Why not?
He looked at me and laughed out loud and said "I can't answer that but it must be true"
He came to Christ and was baptised weeks later. Every time I see him, he comes up gives me a hug and says "why not"
Truly amazing how God works and we must remember his timing is perfect and he will work what's best for his children.
Some get it quickly and some don't.
