Peter was not walking uprightly according to the truth gospel as noted in Galatians.

He was not denying Christ or cursing in the Galatians narrative.

And it can be surmised that Peter received Paul's correction because no further error was noted afterwards.

I think you're having a problem with terminology. Suffering is not "required", it's experienced, and according to 2 Tim 3:12, inevitable.

It's only inevitable if the person wants to stop sinning to the point of suffering in the flesh for it.

We really don't know precisely all that he was denying but he was in denial that's for sure. You can make a good case that he was denying the simple truth of the gospel and the command of the Lord to some extent. No small failing.
