I thought this might be a good time to revisit this thread. In the video Daniel exposes absolutely one of the early Pentecostal and Charismatic heroes: John G. Lake. This is the first installment of what Daniel says is going to be a series on early Charismatic fakes.

He already has a playlist with 25 videos called Exposing the Early Pentecostal Movement.

If the root is bad, how can it bear good fruit?
I tried watching the video. When I found out this guy was bashing Lake because Kenneth Copeland wrote a book about him, I understood he was linking Lake to Copeland to defame him.
Do some real research instead of watching haters & you can find out the truth.
I'm really beginning to wonder about you because of what you write about.
Matt 7:
16You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

I didn't quote the 15th verse because I'm inclined to give you grace for your mistake.

It's a matter of public record. You can't argue with the facts.
Yeah, major media has their own version of the "public record" & facts.
I could write anything on the internet, get a couple of people to agree with me, & there you have the public record.

Whatever. As usual, when valid arguments end personal attacks begin.
The attack began when you posted the thread.
As usual, those attacking claim they're being attacked.
I'm trying to figure out whether you're spiritually blind or being a deceiver. Either way I feel sorry for you.:cautious:

Oh NOW I know why I'm on Aliens radar!! I get it! Aww if only Alien spent as much time sharing the Gospel with people as he does tearing down his Christian brothers and sisters. How sad that some people spend their lifetimes tearing others down and focusing on negatives rather than building up people in the faith and reaching others with the Gospel. Sad, sad,sad Alien.

The reason Copeland was even mentioned was to show that the Pentecostal and Charismatic leadership know who Lake is and support him. Maybe the general laity doesn't know him but the leadership does and they imitate his con artist ways.

I don't recall if Copeland was even mentioned again after this one brief comment. You should probably watch it again. I think you immediately heard something you thought you disagreed with and quit listening. It's not a video about Kenneth Copeland.

Totally agree with you, sis. I must admit i've had some scuffles on here with him too.

Has anyone else on here had similar situations as well?

I am also a conservative Pentecostal & am not ashamed of my relationship with Christ. So yes, I identify with the movement & am glad you see that.
I wouldn't ask someone to do something unless I've done it already.
I checked out the Pentecostal movement because I wanted to see it for myself. I am a realist of sorts & dont naturally trust what I hear. So I try to be a Berean to prove whether things said are so.
Yes, there's some false folks in the movement, like all of them, but you're way off base with John G. Lake.

A structure is only as solid as its foundation. In this short study into Pentecostalism's origins we'll discover whether it's built on solid rock or sinking sand.

Charles Fox Parham, Pentecostalism's acknowledged founder, spent the summer of 1900 at Frank W. Sanford's Holiness commune in Shiloh, Maine. While there, he learned of the Holiness doctrine of an approaching "latter rain," that is, an outpouring of the Holy Spirit which would fall on people as it had in the church's early day. This would be a sign of Christ's imminent return. What scriptural basis is there for the latter rain doctrine? James says: "Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains."—James 5:7 This is the only verse from which a case might be made for a latter rain. So we must understand clearly what this verse actually says. Is James instructing his readers to be patient for the latter rain or for Christ's return. He's clearly encouraging them be patient for the Lord's return using an agricultural metaphor to make his point. There are no other New Testament scriptures from which we can put together a "latter rain" doctrine; it simply isn't taught. In fact, rather than worldwide revival, the scriptures clearly reveal the world will descend into darkness before the Lord's return.

While at Shiloh, Sanford filled Parham's head with tales of foreign missionaries who had spontaneously begun speaking the language of their foreign hosts without ever learning the language. In other words, they could preach to them in their own languages using the gift of tongues. But what evidence is there of this ever really happening? None that I'm aware of. But Parham was fascinated; he was convinced that this was a sure sign of the end-time and Christ's imminent return.

Returning to Topeka, Kansas, Parham established a missionary training center. In December of 1900, he challenged his students to find evidence of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit like what happened in Acts 2. He also suggested that the surest evidence of this would be speaking in tongues. At their New Year's eve service, 1901, right on schedule, Agnes Ozman asked Parham to lay hands on her head and pray she would receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Ozman began singing in an unknown language, which someone identified as Chinese.

What's strange about this picture? First of all, there's no evidence from the New Testament that missionaries ever used the gift of tongues to preach the good news. When missionaries did eventually go to foreign countries after the "latter rains" started falling, they failed miserably. Secondly, notice that Parham gave his students a suggestion which they pondered for a month. This wasn't a spontaneous outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Parham orchestrated the whole thing.

So, the question I leave you with is this: If the tree is bad, how can the fruit possibly be good?
No denomination, whatever it is called, including the non-denomination denominations, have been put in place or can be supported by God. He won't go against His own will.

I watched the video but I'm not sure what it has to do with John G. Lake. His name isn't mentioned at all.
But you did say the movement was rotten because of the early people in it.

Pentcostalism has this in common with LDS: They were both built on false doctrine by shady con artists. Neither has changed. You can put all the lipstick you want on a lie, it's still a lie.
This shows a predetermined judgment about Pentecostalism. He's not wanting us to believe facts, but what he believes & hates.

You said I was wrong about John G. Lake, so I asked you for any facts you may have that I'm not aware of, and you sent me on a wild goose chase about Azusa Street. So again I ask: What facts do you have about John G. Lake specifically that will help me see where I'm wrong?

Let's go back to the beginning of this Op. it's called Pentecostalism's sketchy origins. It's purpose from the beginning was to denigrate the Pentecostal Movement by going after one of its early founders & one of its famous members.

Also, you've raised this Op from the dead to try to continue what you started.
Now that you're headlong into it, you can't back out.

Perhaps someone should start a new Op called ResidentAlien's Sketchy Origins & see where we go with that?

Okay, I stand by my contention that the origins of Pentecostalism are very sketchy indeed and its founders were con artists.

You have a chance to prove me wrong but all you do is call me a bad guy. This doesn't go very far in proving you case. Let's keep it simple; right now we're focusing on Lake, let's stick with him.
