There seems to be a dangerous teaching that keeps lurching it's head here on CC and that is the downplay for the need of Scripture since we have the new nature and the Holy Spirit.

Let me say first that we also have abiding with us the old nature/man until that day in Glory (unless you are one of those deceived individuals who believe they have attained perfection here).

And because of that old nature there is always that battle in us of 'what is God's will?', 'which doctrine is true?', 'how do I know this person is speaking truth or lies?' etc. Our old nature tells us one thing our new nature tells us something different and in the heat of battle confusion sets in.

This is why reading and holding God's Word in our heart is so important. It becomes a confirmation to what our new man is telling us and we can step forth in confidence saying "The Scripture says...", rather than "I feel..." or "my heart is telling me" etc.

1 John 5:7-9 (KJV)
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

Amen...man shall live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.....I have heard people say that we do not need the preaching of the word as we have the Holy Spirit...well...Their own words set forth stupidity.....The SPIRIT is THE TRUTH...you cannot separate the Word of God from the Spirit of God.......such foolishness!

God's Word is food for our souls. If we don't read it regularly, we starve spiritually.

Another thought....Meat belongs to them that are of full age (mature)....it seems that many are still choking on the milk of the word and cannot even begin to endure a good ole spiritual T-bone........many have been salvation messaged to death!

The Holy Spirit Just told me................your right!:p

If we don't study and grow in Grace and knowledge and renew our mind with His(His word).........We are sitting ducks in this world.

I agree that scripture is very important and is necessary for one to grow in wisdom and faith but an issue I see is how the word is used these days. It is used as a weapon it is used to condemn others it is used and twisted to fit our own beliefs and it also collects dust on our shelves. The bible is not simply a book or a guideline to being a Christian it holds vast power in it it is the very heart of God himself, each scripture a single verse has more power in it than a nuke and if you know the kind of power a nuke has you know that is quite a bit of power.

I have wondered why the bible is picked apart why so many different interpretations exist why so many doctrines are created from it why it is made to contradict itself. Perhaps we simply do not have the eyes to see. we all believe the view and interpretation we get is from the holy spirit yet how diverse they all are and how they cause strife and confusion and God is not a God of confusion. The bible is like an onion or the earths crust it has many many layers. I think it takes a lot more than reading and knowing the bible to understand it and to see the secrets it holds, who among us can actually read it without misunderstanding the scriptures or seeing a contradiction or seeing only what we want to see in it?

This has been an issue I have been talking to God about for a while now

Thanks DC and Budman.

I know when I first joined CC there were a few strangers that I later found taught lies.

My concern is for people like me...that love God strongly. But Im not quite as wise in scriptures as you all are.
That takes time too.
Its taken Crossnote and Dcon years of study...and many others here too.

But yea Crossnote
I hope to get out of this thread answers to these questions.
How do these newer christians not fall into the snares of false teachers

Where does 'self righteousness' begin in these people?

Golly...Jesus was Jesus and he didnt even act better than others lol
You know...He sat on the ground
Broke bread with lepers.

Anyways lol

I will defenitely be reading this one
Thanks peeps :)

And Crossnote.....................we have all this garbage that is preached at us that is supposedly "Spiritual."

If an unbeliever can do it.....................it is not spiritual. It maybe beneficial for us, but it is not spiritual.

An unbeliever cannot grow in Grace and knowledge, renew their MIND, walk or be filled in the Spirit.

Christianity today thinks that quitting smoking, drinking, cussing, cleaning up their lives, morality, being nice and sweet, giving,serving........is spiritual. And none of it is spiritual in and of itself.

What is our MOTIVATION?

The misunderstanding is due to that abiding old nature in us not the Scriptures, but it is no reason to neglect the Scriptures rather ALL the more to hold them tightly.

Hebrews 2:1 (NET) Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Your right the scriptures are not the problem we are, I myself have seen the power that the bible holds I have experienced the holy fire that comes from it. When I was young in faith or at least younger as I am only three years in faith I had a certain vision. I was on my bed with my bible in front of me and suddenly it happened out of nowhere I saw the bible as I never have before I saw God's love flowing within the pages like a river I saw vast and amazing power in the scriptures and then I saw a blazing fire that came from the bible and consumed me. I then had eyes of blazing fire and with these eyes I could see I mean really see, I could read the bible and there was nothing I could not understand there were no secrets in it I couldnt see I saw through the veil that many of us are looking through.

This vision is how I learned of the power the bible holds, I do not have the right eyes to see yet but perhaps as in that vision one day I will

In our 'eye' oriented culture it is all about what we 'see'.
In Scripture, a vision would be attended with a Word from an angel or God.
Sooo, did you 'hear' the Lord say anything?
If not, what purpose is the vision? Feelings? A puffing experience?

Yes scripture should not be overlooked and never cast aside, but I like what Blain brought up about different interpretations because some interject their own feelings, morals, and man made teaching systems into the scriptures.

Another dangerous tact with using scripture is making one verse stand on its own, as all scripture must be used to get proper understanding, and if still have questions we are to ask God in prayer and He will reveal the truth to us by the Holy Spirit. For the bible says by that anointing of the Holy Spirit we will have no need for any man to teach us. (1 John 2:27)

The scriptures also say that to the one's who believe all things are possible (Mark 9:23), and I see so many teachings now days putting limitations on what can be achieved or accomplished through the Holy Spirit by believers.

We are to have just as much trust in following the word as we do for the One who said those words; Jesus Christ !!!

study is so important. If I did not start a bible study when I got out on my own, I would still believe many of the things I was brought up believing because of trust in what I was being taught.

without study of the word. we will be susceptible to believing anything. Satan comes as an agel of light, there is no way to determine if it is God led or satan deceived unless we study.

in the same token, it takes more than just study, it take the body, and being under a teacher of the word,, the problem of blindly listening to men can occure if we study alone and that is it also. we need both!

You know I have a lot to say about what we see, I ponder it every day but sight only given to those who know whose eyes to look through. I dont need these eyes to see because my eyes dont really see I am in fact blind because I dont see what he sees, the human perception is beyond flawed.

Why did he show me this? for two reasons, one to show me what the bible really is what power resides inside it the love and fire that flows through its pages and second I believe he was showing me the eyes I am going to have one day. You see for the longest time I have sought after his eyes and his heart because I knew how he saw things I knew that compared to him I am blind, I knew why the fire burned in his eyes so intensely in revelations and I knew where the source of that fire was.

however his eyes are not easily obtained, in order to see as he does in order for his heart to fully reside in you it requires a deep love for God and for all others it requires a fire burning in our hearts the same fire I saw the same fire that burns in his heart the same fire I seek and the same one that burns inside me. No ordinary person can have such eyes as him it takes one who truly loves desires craves and adores him with every fiber of their being with every cell in their body it requires one who is willing to go that far who is willing to seek him and to know him to be just like him no matter the cost no matter how far you have to go what you have to go through or what you have to lose.

I am not as experienced as many of you in faith but I do have his fire burning inside me a fire that burns out of love a fire that never simmers never fades never even weakens and will only grow stronger. the love and the power I saw in the bible turned into a fire and the fire consumed me since then that fire that burns out of love has been inside me always burning, its not a feeling its his power and his spirit alive inside me it was his spirit and his power that consumed me in that vision. I am not after an ordinary love and relationship with him nor am I after an ordinary faith, I made a promise to him that I would be strong for him but if I was to be strong it could never be for me and it had to be solely out of a love only such as his own for both him and all others.

He shows me many things just like he showed me that vision he speaks to me in many ways and through almost anything everything he shows me everything he places in my heart everything he teaches me whether ppl think its scriptural or not or whether ppl think its my imagination or not always brings me closer to him and always makes me stronger and always teaches me more about him. my heart knows the path to take when I experience something like that My heart knows if its him and when he speaks my heart tells me who is speaking.

Sure sounds like a double minded man to me. :)

Galatians 5:16-17[SUP]16 [/SUP]This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

So you're saying you're not a double minded because you always walk in the spirit?
Goody for you, just don't extend this to a debate or you'll be in the flesh. :)
