I agree that scripture is very important and is necessary for one to grow in wisdom and faith but an issue I see is how the word is used these days. It is used as a weapon it is used to condemn others it is used and twisted to fit our own beliefs and it also collects dust on our shelves. The bible is not simply a book or a guideline to being a Christian it holds vast power in it it is the very heart of God himself, each scripture a single verse has more power in it than a nuke and if you know the kind of power a nuke has you know that is quite a bit of power.

I have wondered why the bible is picked apart why so many different interpretations exist why so many doctrines are created from it why it is made to contradict itself. Perhaps we simply do not have the eyes to see. we all believe the view and interpretation we get is from the holy spirit yet how diverse they all are and how they cause strife and confusion and God is not a God of confusion. The bible is like an onion or the earths crust it has many many layers. I think it takes a lot more than reading and knowing the bible to understand it and to see the secrets it holds, who among us can actually read it without misunderstanding the scriptures or seeing a contradiction or seeing only what we want to see in it?

This has been an issue I have been talking to God about for a while now
We will have to wait for the Lord to come back to fully understand the Bible and appreciate all the layers of the onions as you put it. Until then, we should refrain from holding one understanding above another. 1 Corinthians 13 has been perhaps my most favorite scripture as it humbles me before my Lord and reminds me of the most important task at hand that is to love. A love borne out of the love taught in the Scriptures. With love nothing is impossible for any soul to achieve. A thought of hatred must be destroyed by a more powerful thought of love.

amen!

what's to compare to Christ's sacrifice? absolutely nothing....
what's to compare to Christ speaking His perfect language to us...
and we being able to understand it? absolutely nothing.....

to be able to understand that we can actually be in touch with heavenly gifts while here on earth....
this kind of Love is so unique and One of a Kind, that it can do nothing but to keep us all humble,
if we truly Love and serve Him in return....

yes, in this day and age, love trumps all...even truth...how sad. :(
Of course, if that passage wasn't the truth, then love wouldn't be greater than faith and hope. :)

your first answer made no reference to Scripture. That's what got me wondering. I brought up the passage in Peter, hoping you'd comment on it but instead you answer with how you view the bible, but that wasn't my point.

I'll try asking differently. Can you learn of God's nature apart from Scripture? If so, how will you know it is God's nature?
Can you answer the same question crossnote.. Look at how many doctrinal differences there are out there in the name of the bible? Each one believes they have it right and will determine what they believe Gods nature is, according to their interpretation. This just shows that man is trying to figure it out without God.
