Jesus said about the Old testament

John5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Don't be distracted away from the simplicity that is in Christ, Jesus is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6) Learn about him from the scriptures
Almost a perfect reply.

1 Corinthians 1:23
But we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The subject of the scripture is Jesus Christ.

Very important truth statements made by both Paul and John. It is in these truth statements (doctrines), that you will recognize. What really matters, what a Christian bases their life upon. what a Christian really believes in their heart.

It is not an easy task.
I'm actually off to look into this now, interesting line of thought, your not giving much away here tho are you....I've gotta do the hard work....... Maybe Ill post some findings later thanks for the idea

That's a dangerous occupation, Why would you want to judge the work of God in some ones life, Take a child in the faith a little baby that cant teach yet but God is working in them, to make that judgment wouldn't it be better a mill stone was hung around your neck and thrown into the ocean, Why go that far when you don't know the thoughts and intents of anyone's heart, Look for Love not a chance to say they are not of God, otherwise who do you think you are
if they choose to instruct me i should follow doctrines of man and claim they are a Follower of Christ, then there should be some PROOF!

you can't beat people on the head and demand we follow this and that and you have never once in your walk in God led a single soul to the Kingdom of God. what that makes such a person is a first class Hypocrite!

which is why many of today's Scholars are atheist and agnostic like Erhman?
None of the scholars I read or listen to are atheists. They are very traditional from reformed and Lutheran traditions.
I have No idea who erhman is or what tradition he comes from.

Glad to be of service. I don't give a lot away because I have a very short list of doctrine.

The simpler the doctrine the more accurate you will be.

Concentrate on what the apostles declared to us.

if they know creeds and Scripture to associate with it, they have been walking this walk for a very very long time. and if they can beat others on the head but not lead anyone to God, what are they worth to God in furthering His Kingdom?

did God tell man to make Doctrines, or did man decide on his own to make Doctrines?
A creed is a statement of belief. "I believe that Jesus of Nazareth died on the cross for the salvation of sinful men" is a creed. Why? It's a statement of your belief. Everyone has creeds.

Doctrine is a set of beliefs (creeds) both held and taught. " Jesus of Nazareth died on the cross for the salvation of sinful men" is or can also be a doctrine if that is a belief both held and taught by a church body.

Jesus Christ taught doctrine. The Disciples of Christ taught doctrine. The Apostles taught doctrine.

All churches teach doctrine - all of them. The only question is whether the doctrines being taught is in agreement with Scripture.

it's a Testimony!

a creed is something everyone else must abide by.

my Testimony and Your Testimony are not the same, therefore it is not a creed.

I would avoid using the generic term of 'God' and start confessing the name of Jesus.

There is no other name (Jesus Christ) given under heaven that we can be saved by.

That name matters above everything else.

The confession of that name matters. If you confess Jesus through your life, Jesus will confess your name before the Father.

Not confessing the name of Jesus Christ is essentially a denial of Jesus.

No one has to abide by my beliefs and a creed is simply a statement of belief.

A testimony is why you believe something. That is more personal.

Me too, I live here

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified

And currently

Hebrews13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Thanks Bro

Of course a testimony is not a creed.

A creed is simply a set of statements of truth concerning Jesus Christ.

Was Jesus the creator, was Jesus God, did Jesus rise from the dead. These are doctrines, truth statements, songs, psalms. prophecies. Christians have been executed over these statements.

Whereas a testimony is how you came to believe in Jesus.

Your leaning more towards the interpretations of the scripture. How you read and understand the entire Bible. That is what interpretations are designed to do. There are many interpretations of the scripture. There are many churches also, each has a slight or a major difference, in their interpretation of the scripture.

Doctrine is above any interpretation because doctrines are the fundamental tenets of the faith.

you do know the nicene council were all Catholics? so, if you ever degrade the Catholic belief but follow their Creeds, what are you trying to really say?

the simplicity of the Gospel of Christ is so pure that anyone reading the Bible can understand it.

Creeds were made for the ILLITERATE! before the 10th Century, only the Bishops knew how to read and write. so they made Creeds for those who took their words for it.

i can read and write! i don't need their help!
