Been there, done that more than once, didn't work at all. :/ God's healing is NOT for EVERYONE.
Which is why he continued with
Sometimes we see in the Word that an affliction or ailment is for the glory of God......never judge by appearances but with right judgment.........Praise God always, amen.

If you get an STD from committing a sexual sin, it just means you forgot to use a condom.. lol

And if you don't get an STD from sexual sin, it's still sexual sin.

That's what I hate about these kinds of topics. Smoke, get lung cancer. I have never met a smoker who got lung cancer. I've known some smokers who got cancer, but never lung cancer. And I've known people who never took a single puff yet still got cancer.

All this is about define what God does and how. It does no good, it doesn't work, and the only thing left over after it's done is people in pain feeling more in pain from the judgements and those without pain more smug because they aren't.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

If God was ever easily definable he's NOT God!

This post is just another poorly thought out addendum to the Word Faith heresy.

Jesus healed people because it was part of his ministry, which was prophesied in the OT. The disciples also healed, as a sign to unbelievers. By the end of Acts, healing has almost died out. It is barely mentioned in the epistles, because there are so many more important things to discuss.

I just get so riled when people come up with nonsense posts like this, because I am so sick, and I have lived such a clean and organic life. I became a vegetarian when I was 17. I only ate food I made myself, and/or grew myself in a large organic garden. I still continue to garden in raised beds, which produce an amazing amount of veggies. I get organic fruit from my neighbours. I have always exercised unless bed ridden. Even now, I am in a lot of pain, but I am pushing myself to stretch, do weights and ride my bike. I am sure I would be much worse if I did not, and my bone density would have fallen dramatically. I also have pretty much always lived on the edge of towns, in the country and right now up on a mountain, where I breath very clean air. Never smoked, of course. Totally quit drinking 35 years ago when I was saved. And I do take a lot of vitamin and mineral supplements, because my body has never properly processed food. Maybe a consequence of surviving pneumonia as a baby?

I have a genetic illness. There is no doubt genetic illnesses are a result of the Fall. I believe after the flood, when life spans were dramatically altered, the sun and radiation caused some small breaks in the genetic code, which were transmitted and maybe magnified. Eventually, they affected the human genome in many ways, and we have a host of diseases for which really NO ONE is responsible for.

A friend of mine had a daughter get leukaemia at age 4. She survived, but please tell me what sin she committed, as a tiny 4 year old living in a northern BC community, that the consequence was cancer!! How cruel and insensitive to say it was something she did, or her mom or for that matter, someone generations back in that family that caused her cancer! So much of cancer research today is focused on identifying the gene that turns on the cancer. I have a friend who is 65, who had a gene that caused certain breast cancer. She had both breasts removed, and she remains cancer free. But what a high price to pay!

The latest cancer research is being focus on getting the body to stop attacking itself. Autoimmune therapy is focusing on turning off the gene that triggers diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus. There is NO SIN involved in these diseases. I know people who are rich and poor that have RA. I frequent a Rheumatoid Forum and a majority there are Christians. And bold in their witness, in spite of the pain and this dreadful illness. By the way Rheumatoid Arthritis is NOT Osteo Arthritis, which is a disease of wear and tear, which 97% of all people have by age 80. RA can actually cause OA in people with the disease, but everything about OA and RA is different, except for the fact that joints are involved. RA also attacks the brain, heart, lungs and kidneys, and it causes people to die up to 10 years younger than if they didn't have the disease. It also is systemic.

Sorry for the rant. I just detest these ill formed ideas, that sin causes all disease. I don't even think the Word Faith people would say that!

"More than that, we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. And hope does not disappoint, because God's love has been poured out through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Romans 5:3-5

At 71, I have learned to thank Jesus Christ for any eventuality concerning my walk on the pat He has given me. It has blessed me so much to know to thank God for everything, even things that seem to be bad.. There have been many things others would know are bad that have been put in my walk, and though it sounds unbelievable, thank God has always led me to see good come from it.

As an older person, I see any ailment or condition as just another step out of this body and life allied to corruption towards true life and incorruption for all eternity, This is not a formula for belief or for happiness, but it has been working well for me for a few decades. It is kind of like the autumn of life leading to a time of rest then rebirth and life, but this life is eternal.

I am probably not making much sense here, but it is how I have learned to look forward to our Father's will no matter how it is to be, for His Will is always good; it is perfect.

God bless all who are in Jesus Christ.......amen

2 Kings 1:2-4 "And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Now therefore thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed."

2 Chronicles 16:12-13 "And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign."

2 Chronicles 21:12-18 "And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,
[SUP]13 [/SUP]But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself:
[SUP]14 [/SUP]Behold, with a great plague will the Lord smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Moreover the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]And after all this the Lord smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease."

Just a couple Biblical examples.

My grandmother called the troubles "plateaus" to "onward and upward." (Eternity with God.)

She married a widower with two children. The oldest "child" was six years younger than Gram. They had two children, and six months after the second child (all girls so far and the youngest was my mother) was born he died at 39 years old. Gram was 24. The oldest hated her for all the reason a teen would hate a stepmother that close to her age, plus she had lost both parents so young. The second oldest had some kind of emotional disability plus her organs never passed what organs look like as a baby. (No words for her disability back then, and I still haven't met anyone quite like her since. She was so sweet, but she just couldn't deal people having negative emotions around her, which must have been tough with three sisters.) The third daughter was mentally disabled, diabetes, epilepsy, and a bad heart. (She lived until she was 72.) Gram's first "plateau."

She married the man I consider PopPop -- my grandfather -- and they had two boys. My uncle counted the times they moved by the time he was 16 and sent to a military academia -- 23 times. PopPop was in charge of making the PRR run smoothly -- from the tracks themselves to relationships between union employees and management, so they moved a lot. (Where there was a PRR hub, they lived there, at least twice. Four times for Philly.)

PopPop died in his mid 50's -- Gram's second plateau.

Her third was when she started going blind and then became blind. That's when I learned about plateaus.

Her fourth was the indignant death. Blind she could take. Wheelchair she could take. The bags that made bathrooms unnecessary is when she had enough. ("Indignant.") She knew who waited for her at the top of the mountain. God. She died at 93 after a stroke and a DNR paper.

Now THAT's Word of Faith!

But, yeah, Jaume. You made sense. :)

Just a couple Biblical examples.
1 Samuel 19: 8 And there was war again. And David was playing the lyre.10 And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.

1 Cor. 12:
7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

(I figure if I can't stop you from your game, I'll join you with other scripture.)

Thank you for your testimony.
I to believe this body is not our eternal home and illness is not a reflection of personal do not lifestyle.

I apologise to all who take this post as advocating the word of faith movement. Though the post may be I'll conceived, I had hope to have a productive conversation about the topic.

I strongly disagree with name it and claim it doctrine but I do believe that societies sin and the sin of mankind has affect human health.

I also believe the Bible contains practical advice about caring for our bodies mentally, physically and spiritual and was hoping to find people who would discuss those truths contained in the Bible.

That is the path I hope we can walk. If you would rather mock and make fun, can you do so in another thread.

It's very discouraging.

Thank you for those verses. It shows that there more to God's plan than we understand.

God didn't promise us lives without suffering in this world, but eternal life in the next.

It's clear to most how the Bible tells us how to keep our minds and spirit healthy, I just wonder if there is some truth in the other practices for our physical health.

For example not being gluttonous, not eating flesh of scavengers, fasting,etc....

I recognize that this does not affect our salvation. I am asking it on a practical guide.

Jesus fasted and spent time in prayer on top of a mountain or alone, makes me ask why we as Christians don't ?

Romans 8 discusses this at length.

(Some of us ain't healthy.)
I believe Romans 8 address more what it means to be mentally and spiritually healthy than physical health.....it also highlights the promise of a new body and that we will suffer in this one.

However I believe there is more in the Bible about the subject..I probably should just read my Bible and pray. Just hoping others would want to re-examine the Bible with me and see what it says about how to stay physically healthy.

*For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.*I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.*For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.*For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope*that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.*We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.*Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.*For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?*But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.*In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.*And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. - Romans 8:13,18-27 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans8:13,18-27&version=NIV

Ahhhh, man! I really thought you were the one who would get the healed cat. I remember how tough it was to watch mine die, and there was nothing I could do about it, but you had medication for yours, so I was optimistic that would work. (Have you notice my optimisin hasn't come the way I hoped for quite some time lately?)

I'm truly sorry. Cats always seem to be like the curmudgeon uncle -- there's just something about them that makes me like them despite their curmudgeonly ways.

Not quite as discouraging as getting our weekly sermon on how screwed up we are for being disabled.

Is there a connection?
For example smoking leads to lung cancer...gluttony leads to obesity and many medical problems associated with it.
Again, never knew a smoker that got lung cancer. I've never seen in the Bible God being against it either. And yet, that is the biggest "sin" on earth today, with a close runner up being someone overweight. This is the world's game. I'm not of the world and won't play that game.

As for glutton? What? Mentioned three times, and two out of the three times it says don't hang out with them or drunks. When it talks about personal gluttony, it also talks about putting a knife to your throat. I'm thinking a bit of hyperbole there.

I know a guy who was told he had the spirit of gluttony. He's about 5'10" and 120 pounds. He believes it because someone gave him a word from the Lord.

I think Christians spend too much time focusing on the ills of others and coming up with iffy stuff to count as sin, to avoid the real sin they have. And, I think too many do think they are even more-saved if they eat just right.
