That's a pretty piece of property, you could do wonders with it.
I keep telling my son to invest while he can, one day he won't
be able to. Depends on how much timber, and how many acres
it is, the timber may just about pay for the property. The timber
looks to be about 5 years from harvest time, they buy by the ton,
the logs has to be a certain size.
I've had 2 jobs, one a paramedic, the other a farmer. I would rather
be a farmer than anything else. You work hard, but the rewards are
out of this world. You get to see so much that you can't see in the
city. The city has crime, we have bears, coyotes, wolves, gators, foxes,
and all the other wildlife that's out there. Still would rather live here
than in the city.
But not herds of pesky, garden munching deers. I could do without those. Ironically, I lived on an acreage in the country before I moved here, in Alberta. I saw wolves, coyotes lived across the road, and foxes, hares and lots of gophers (my husband's pet hate!) And there was a herd down the highway, at one point. But no deers ate my garden.
So the deers here, in the city (although I can see the forest from both the front and back of my house) the deers just roam wild, destroying trees, perennials, flowers and vegetables at will. I even put mesh over the garden beds, and they ripped them apart to get at the ripe tomatoes, lettuce, beans, etc. etc.
My husband is slowly putting up a 7 foot fence to deter them. Maybe by winter? He thinks retirement means do nothing!
His alternate idea to get rid of the deers is allow the big dogs to go off leash. He was raised in a mountain town not far from here, and the deers never got the gardens. Because the dogs kept them away.
My alternate idea is to bring in the wolves they killed up in northern BC to cull their packs. Deers need natural enemies, and I think it would greatly thin the herds. Not sure whether they would attack people or pets, though. I like wolves, they are so strong and bold. A pack of them stared me down a few winters ago near the road. I stopped to look, they were so amazing, but they didn't want anything to do with me, and they wanted me gone! LOL
