Prior to the completion of the NT tongues were a sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit.
They still are.

The early church was authorized to witness of Jesus as the long promised Messiah and confirmed by the presence of the Holy Spirit through signs of which tongues was one.
We are still authorized to be ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20), and God still wants all Christians to speak in tongues (1 Cor 14:5).

With the completion of the NT scripture the Holy Spirit now ministered through the scriptures so the sign of tongues was no longer required.
That is simply your belief.

There is no written word known to man like the written word of God. No other manuscripts have the power of the Holy Spirit upon them. It is through the hearing of the word of God that men are given the faith to believe on Jesus Christ as Savior.
That's very true, but it does not prove that 1 Cor 13:8 is talking about the "completed Bible", or that tongues have already ceased.

It is a sign that believers have been filled with the Holy Spirit.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Act 2:4 KJV)

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, (Act 10:44-46 KJV)

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Act 19:6

It would seem you are putting the horse before the cart or turning things upside down . Cause and effect. Because they were filled with the Holy Spirit they began to speak in other languages to one another . A Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit as a result of their new birth and by that new spirit of faith they can believe God fully .

The gift of God brining his interpretations a in other languages other than that of Hebrew alone is a two way street affecting two . The speaker and hearer who hears what God is saying and vice versa .

Today they have real time devices that allow two different languages spoken and both understood in ones own language.

I think that is what the verse below is saying. Paul who preached the gospel in places where the were language barriers was successful in bringing the gospel as the Holy Spirit applied it to both hearts . Neither made a noise that has no significance in order to confirm they were filled with the Holy Spirit as some sort of outward evidence. God looks upon the heart and is able to finish the good work he has begun

There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
Therefore if I
(Paul) know not the meaning of the voice (the stranger) , I (Paul) shall be unto him (stranger) that speaketh a barbarian, and he (stranger) that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me(Paul) .1 Corinthians 14:10 -11

A mutual gift coming from the faith that alone comes from hearing God . Not from noise that have no significance to understand what God is saying. God knows all the languages of the world

Paul experienced that on all His journeyed being sent out with the word of Christ's faith that mutually worked in two

Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together
(by the comforter the Holy Spirit of Christ ) with you by the mutual faith (Christ's) both of you and me.Roman1:10 -12

Are you saying the Holy Spirit only ministered through scriptures ? Wow.
What about prayer and faith As James 5:13-16 says? Is it not the Holy Spirit who is ministering healing through faith ? hearing of the word you say ?
is that what it says ?
Rom 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God

Faith comes by hearing the word. That is not just the NEW Testament is it ? No it is not Faith is spoken in Genesis to Malachi and from Matt to REV.
You cannot restrict God to how HE will minster ,which is serve. The Word of God is clear
in the many ways God will minster to His people as the Word says
God will Bless , heal, provide, save , keep, protect, all this is done by the Holy Spirit recorded in the Old Testament . And continues in the NEW and continues today.

Where does it say there will be outward evidence a person is filled with the Spirit being empty or partially full before?

We have evidence (God's word) we will receive our new incorruptible bodies. which all die having not received

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:Hebrews 11:39

I don't see anyone walking around in a glorified new incorruptible body as the bride of Christ? We walk by faith the unseen eternal) Not by sight as that seen the temporal.

It makes me wonder according to the querry in Luke 18. When Christ comes on the last day will he find His faith working in the heart of men as that comes from hearing God through the scriptures or people walking after their own outward experiences after the imaginations of their own hearts as in the days of Noah

Luke 18:8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth

Genesis 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually ……………………………………... (No faith)

I would think...can't put the cart before the horse. That would be turning things upside down as did the unconverted Jews who refused to hear the word of God . God has given us a sign to beware of those who go above that which is written.

How do you define …..not to them that believe prophercy (the word of God) , but to them that believe not:? (no faith)

In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.1 Corithians 14:21-22
Acts 2:4
The spirit of God came upon those in the upperoom, they spoke in an unknown tongue ( this is what Jesus told them to tarry for. This would be the new tongues that Jesus refers to. So, when it came it was evident they had was Jesus said they would have). Another thing, you can tell if someone has the spirit of God is by their fruit ( they'll produce the gifts of the spirit). It's also important to know that some people will receive the spirit of God and will not speak in tongues right away, and that's okay. There are many reasons why they may not. However, not everyone who "speaks in tongues" is of God...

I do not limit God that is a red herring.

God has chosen to minister to mankind through His word. Jesus is described as the Word made flesh and dwelling among us. God heals through the word of God. God blesses through the word of God. God saves, keeps, protects, provides all through His word.

God does not conduct Himself in a capricious fashion. God is a God of order and is completely trustworthy. God has invested His integrity in His word.

Tongues were at one time a witness of Gods presence byHis Holy Spirit. Today the power of God is revealed through His word. This is the method God chose for His glory. If any lack confidence in the word of God they are not worthy of Him.

Please provide some support for this assertion. Jews require a sign. Gentiles seek knowledge. Unknown tongues cannot provide knowledge and are therefore unfruitful. So says the Holy Spirit through Paul in 1 Cor 14:14

You made this comment: "Jews see unknown languages as a sign of impending judgment from Jehovah God." My point is that Corinth was not a Jewish city. Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to the Church at Corinth. The recipients were not primarily, or even largely, Jewish. Corinth was a cosmopolitan city, with people of many ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

OK I see. Do you know that Paul was correcting the Corinthians on abuses of the gifts of the Holy Spirit? The cultural diversity of Corinth led to many tongues from all the mixed cultures being present in their assembly. If someone speaks in a tongue of their ethnicity and another interprets is that tongues in your opinion?

I am not at all convinced that the tongues in Corinth are the same tongues in Acts. Acts and possibly Mark lead one to see tongues as a spontaneous action accompanying salvation. An evidence that the person just got saved. It is not at all evident that the case of Corinth is at all related to the tongues in Acts.

Your mistake is that Jesus is not the Holy Spirit. There are three persons of the Trinity. Jesus is one person of the Trinity and the Holy Spirit is another person of the Trinity.

Accepting Jesus into our life, the second person of the Trinity, is not the same as being filled with the Holy Spirit who is the third person of the Trinity. Remember when Christ was baptised, the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove, and the Father spoke from heaven. Here we see the Three persons of the Trinity. Remember also, Jesus said he would send the Comforter (the Holy Spirit.)

Jesus said, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things," Joh 14:26.

And again, Jesus said, "how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (Luk 11:13 KJV)

First, we need to accept Jesus into our life, and then secondly we need to seek the Holy Spirit from the Father.

I am asking and I have never seen a red Herring . God has also choose to minster to mankind with men . God can conduct Himself as HE see fit HE is God. No is saying not to have confidence in HIS word the word is Holy, pure, true, and powerful; sharper than a double edged sword . You said

"With the completion of the NT scripture the Holy Spirit now ministered through the scriptures so the sign of tongues was no longer required. "

You should have said TOO or also because that is not the Only way the Holy Spirit minster's . YES the Word of God is the way God communicate to us and it is authoritative absaltuely . YET God can and does speak to people in many other ways Which we discern FROM the Word of God if it is true.

Yet Paul tells the Corinthians that God chose the foolishness of preaching to bring souls to Christ. Preaching not tongues, miracles or healings. Preaching the word of God the gospel of Christ which is the power to bring men to salvation.

1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

God does not call women to preach. Men call women to preach but not God. Most men are not called of God to preach. Many who claim to preach are doing so according to the strength of their flesh.

Speaking with respect to pastors we are in a great mess. We have sodomites positioning themselves a pastors and the people do not have the good sense to reject them.

Most churches would abuse a good man of God if they had one. They really do not want a man of God to pastor them because they would need the get right with God. They are quite comfortable in their sin and the appearance of religion. What the want are sleeping dogs that cannot bark to guard them.

The onus of proof is on you and others making a claim. This should be elementary.
Hypocrite.
DJ2 and others are always demanding real tangible evidence that tongues are genuine, and that miracles still
occur today. When confronted with testimonies to such they refuse to accept this evidence and claim it to be
lies, spurious, imaginary or Satanic.

NO it is unbelievers who need to prove that miracles, signs and healings no longer are available today.
For millions who experience all of these prove you lot wrong.

I posted the law of God. How could that provide unbelief? …
Are you saying we can go above that which is written and call it tangible confirmation ?
What does not to them that believe but to those who believe not mean to you? …
I SEE THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION.
You and others cannot prove that speaking in tongues is not operating the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
You can provide NO evidence whatsoever that praying in tongues is not praying in the Holy Spirit.
In the end you only have your unbelief.

Are you saying we can go above that which is written and call it tangible
confirmation ?
YES - Jesus himself provides the means to do so …

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick,
and they shall recover.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.
Amen. Mark 16:

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
1Corinthians 2:

Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum,
I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. Romans 15:9

God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with diverse miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his
own will? Hebrews 2:4

Still happening today. Has been for the last 140 years (since the 1880s) when the latter day Pentecostal revivals came out from
the "divine healing" movement of the time …

Where do you find people asking to be filled with the Holy Spirit as if we were not filled when we first believed?
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. Acts 19:2

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter
and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Acts 8:
So how did the apostles know that baptized disciples (believers) had NOT received the Holy Spirit?
And how then did Peter and John know that afterwards these same believers had now received the indwelling
Holy Spirit?

The answer of course is tongues - shall speak in new tongues just as Jesus said would happen.
Acts 10 is further proof of this.

what law pertains to tongues?

why do you seem to be ignoring the scriptures that instruct the use of tongues in a body of believers and seem to insist that tongues are only a sign for unbelievers?

I posted some time back with reference to that and you skipped over it

you know, ignoring the scriptures that do not give credence to what you write is not evidence that everyone else is mistaken

further, you continue to string together UNRELATED verses, taken out of context, and try to use them to lend support to your ...kind of strange, sorry to say...doctrine of tongues

it never was and is not now about people using or thinking tongues are a sign when they ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit

Christians are not using tongues for a sign
@Waggles
I would be interested in knowing what it is in my post above that you find objectionable

Act 19:6

this is where I will disagree with people in the subject of tongues

while the NT states that some received the infilling after salvation PLEASE show me where it says that speaking in tongues is a sign that a believer has been filled with the Holy Spirit

why does Paul say he wishes all would speak in tongues if everyone was speaking in tongues?

does he say anywhere that if you do not speak in tongues you are not filled?

you do not have to be speaking in tongues to be filled with the Holy Spirit

majoring in tongues creates all kinds of difficulties IMO

and by the way I speak in tongues. it is the insistence everyone must speak in tongues that is problematical IMO

I do not believe there is support for that
