Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves:
for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account,
that they may do it with joy, and not with grief:
for that is unprofitable for you.

What do you have to say to this,
that is written in the book of Hebrews
concerning you? If I had rule over you
would you obey me and submit yourselves to it?
Or would you rebel and not live by this written in the book of Hebrews
as you are commanded by it?
The Bible says that we must obey the gospel in order to be saved.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?"
Romans 10

This LINK has the gospel/ good news of what you must believe in order to be saved.

Will you obey the gospel Sandwich?

This is off topic. And if I were to ask you if Hebrews 13:17 was the gospel, you would say yes.
So there already within this thread is written the answer to your question to me.

How so? How does anything I do or do not do, give you or is an aid to you with understanding with Hebrews 13:17?
It informs my understanding of what you believe it means.
For full disclosure, I am a member of a church under the authority of a pastor. It is an independent nondenominational church with predominantly reformed theology.

It means to me, exactly as it is written, in the English language, word for word,
as it is written in the book of Hebrews, word for word, in English.

That just tells me he is new or under a new name, and largely ignored. I'd like to find some common ground and help him fit in if possible.
He's unsure about his spiritual status. So maybe he's seeking his place among Christians? That's what I was thinking when he started this thread and asked questions from other Christians.

He seems very clear about what he believes and seems loaded and cocked and ready to fire to me.

We have no Biblical mandate to submit and obey a Sandwich, but we all are to submit to the higher Authority and to obey the gospel.

Do you have a pastor that rules over you and is accountable for you to the Lord? Yes or no?
If you do not answer with a yes I will assume it is a NO.

If not then why not?

Paul said Follow me as I follow Christ. That is the only way we can submit to a church authority is if they are already truly following Christ.

I have been to churches that believe they have the authority to make man-made rules a prerequisite for church membership. And they will use verses like the one in the OP to support their position.

What do you believe the nature and extent of the exercise of authority to be?

You're new, so how about you answer your own questions. Coming in and acting like you own the place usually invites scorn... and rightly so.

We should give greater latitude, not less. And patiently wait upon answers.

About husband/wife relationship, "rule over thee", etc is mentioned in Genesis and is stated next to painful childbearing. It is fair to say that husband ruling over wife, being one of the first words spoken by God after Adam and Eve disobeyed, and given the context of the text, that husband ruling over the wife is intended as punishment. So, this is always going to be stuggle for wives (but obviously not if the husband is very agreeable) and consequently for hubands in their relationships. If husbands realize that women's inclination to be disagreeable is actually primarily a result of the Fall, I think they will be more understanding and efficient in dealing with their wives.
