must admit i have entertained the idea of having a ring of cherubim, palm trees and open flowers put on my leg. ((re: 1 Kings 6:29, etc.))
didn't do it. i'm wishy-washy, in general. these days if it came to it i'd go with השייכות ליהוה
on my right hand instead, which means "belonging to YHVH" as it says here:
This one will say, ‘I am the LORD’s,’
another will call on the name of Jacob,
and another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’
and name himself by the name of Israel.
(Isaiah 44:5)
i wouldn't condemn anyone over a tattoo. that's bonkers IMO, though i understand devotion & why some people are offended by them - of course i think it's wise to try not to offend them, but your body doesn't belong to them, and what place does anyone have to accuse anyone about what they did before they knew Christ, especially?
a story, for whatever it's worth: i met a young Jewish man while working at a remote site once, who had Hebrew script on his right arm. i asked him what it meant - it said "Elohim" - and that was the touching off point for a conversation we had, where we praised God together. we never would have spoken if not for his tattoo.
