Acts 10

10:10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

10:11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

10:12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

10:15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

If you read this as part of the entire chapter, and also as Christ told us to read in spirit and truth, you will find this was teaching that God came for the gentiles as well as the Jews. It was telling Paul and Peter to take the gospel to the gentiles, for they were cleansed by God and not common.

All though the bible it shows that we are to look at the physical world we live in as good, as a reflection of the spiritual. The laws given about what food to eat wasn't, spiritually, about food but about being clean in our thinking. All the food that was forbidden was from animals who ate refuse. It relates, spiritually, to the verse in Phil 4:8 about keeping our mind on clean good things, not on the refuse of life. When Christ came, when we receive the HS we can obey this in spirit and truth, and know the food choice isn't the important thing.

show me where it says he did not. God in this verse declared all food clean.
Act 10:17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

Wasn't obvious to Peter.

Considering it was a VISION he probably didn't eat anything at all.
Nor after this vision...

Act 10:17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

Ever read about Peter's vision?
It is about gentiles not food

well im going to go cook up some bacon, turn on a little rock and roll, wear cotton and wool simultaneously, shave my beard, and I guess plan a new tattoo...and you know what all that equals...nothing, because the levitical laws dont apply.
bacon = trichnosis parasite

turn on a little rock and roll = satab whispering in your ear

wear cotton and wool simultaneously = irritated skin?

shave my beard = metro sexual look? can be at times indistinguishable between sexes...

tattoo = defiling the temple

The trichosis parasite comes from eating uncooked pork. Considering the means of food preservation have improved the chances of getting the parasite is rare.
FYI, eating undercooked meat of any type can cause illness. Not just from pork.

I agree, but it is still possible for the parasite to live trhough 180 deg for 30 min, and beside the parasite, 1oz of pork a day can raise the chance of pancreatic cancer by 20%.

Scarrrrry!

I stay away from pink slime and GMOs too! I hope everyone does!

Ever heard about pouring coke on pork and what happens? Look it up. It's gross. Don't know if it's true but I will admit that I don't eat pork chops anymore bc of it.

Hmmm, Paul thought otherwise...

1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Word for sanctified here...

G37
ἁγιάζω
hagiazō
hag-ee-ad'-zo
From G40; to make holy, that is, (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate: - hallow, be holy, sanctify.

Where do we find meats sanctified (set apart for holy use)?

Lev 11:43 Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.
Lev 11:44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Lev 11:45 For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.
Lev 11:46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth:
Lev 11:47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

Take it for what it is worth to you.

we are not obligated to be under the Levitical laws. if you chose to this is fine, but I don't about you but I am not of jewish decent. the council in Acts said nothing about non-jews observing any dietiary laws.

in acts 15 that was about coming in to the fold, being saved by the blood, the pharisee said one couldnt even be saved unless they were circumcised, that is not true, anyone in any state cann accept Yahshua! and thank Yahweh for that!

King James Bible
But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

New International Version
Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.

"things strangled and blood" is a foolish and fase translation, it should say:

Acts 15:20, "But rather, write to them that they abstain from defilements: such as godworship, from all sexual impurity, from that which has been cooked with the blood still in it, and from bloodshed by violence"

BTW Law was never a Hebrew /Jew only thing:

Exodus 12:48-49, "And when a stranger lives among you and wants to sacrifice the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near, and sacrifice it; and he shall be as a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person shall eat of it. One Law shall be for the nativeborn and for the stranger who dwells among you."

I don't thing scripture says that at all. Christ told us that every law was to stay, except Christ added to each one. He quoted different laws, but then said that "but I say to you", and he added that we aren't to obey just by the letter but in spirit and truth.

If we obey the dietary laws in spirit and truth, then we don't think with garbage thoughts but with thoughts as Phil. 4:8 explains. If we don't eat pork, an animal that eats garbage, it is to remind us of that. It so happens this decision not to eat pork is beneficial to our health, also. God looks at what we think about as the most important.

I would have expected more research out of you on that...[h=1]Coke Adds Life[/h]Claim: Pouring Coca-Cola onto a piece of raw pork will cause worms to come crawling out of the meat.

Examples: [de Vos, 1996]

[Collected via e-mail, 2004]

I live in the south and have heard a rumor for several years now that I have been too busy (or lazy) to test myself. The rumor says that if you take uncooked pork bacon and pour carbonated, sugary soda on it, tiny "worm-looking" things will come out of the meat. This is believed to be a type of tapeworm, according to the supporters of the rumor.

[Collected via e-mail, 2003]

I HEARD THAT IF YOU TAKE A PORK CHOP PUT IT ON A PLATE AND POUR COCA COLA SODA ON IT AND WAIT 5 OR 10 MIN THAT LITTLE TINY WORMS WILL COME OUT

[Collected via e-mail, 2003]

Any comment yet on the idea that if you take a piece of pork, draw a circle around it and then pour coke over it, the pork will literally move on its own outside the outline — apparently this is due to the worms and microbes living inside of it (pig, of course, being swine that wallow in their own filth).

Origins: Most of us have been exposed to information cautioning us to be wary of pork, from religious traditions (particularly in Jewish and Muslim cultures) that proscribe its consumption to warnings that one can get really sick by ingesting parasites present in (undercooked) pork products.

The disease trichinosis (or trichinellosis) can be caught through the consumption of raw or undercooked meat of animals infected with the larvae of the Trichinella worm, a parasite common to many wild carnivorous animals and sometimes found in game meat from bears, pigs/boars, large felines, foxes, dogs, wolves, horses, seals, and walruses. Because Trichinella infection may also occur in domestic pigs, consumers of pork have long been cautioned to cook the meat thoroughly to ensure that any parasites in the meat are killed off prior to their being ingested by humans. However, as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) note, the incidence of trichinosis associated with pork consumption is now much less common due to a number of factors:Infection was once very common and usually caused by ingestion of undercooked pork. However, infection is now relatively rare. During 1997-2001, an average of 12 cases per year were reported. The number of cases has decreased because of legislation prohibiting the feeding of raw-meat garbage to hogs, commercial and home freezing of pork, and the public awareness of the danger of eating raw or undercooked pork products. Cases are less commonly associated with pork products and more often associated with eating raw or undercooked wild game meats.
Moreover, the potential for trichinosis can be headed off through observing a few simple precautions in the preparation of pork, such as cooking the meat thoroughly (the CDC recommends a temperature of 170°F, although most sources state that temperatures in the

140-150°F range are sufficient to kill the Trichinella spiralis roundworm), or freezing pork less than 6 inches thick for 20 days at 5°F or lower.

Separate legends involving pork and Coca-Cola have been combined into a sort of meta-legend, one which holds that pouring Coke over a piece of uncooked pork will cause worms to come crawling out of the meat. This newer legend plays off misconceptions of pigs as filthy, garbage-eating animals whose meat is ordinarily contaminated by disease-bearing worms and Coca-Cola as a drink chock full of caustic, bad-for-you substances that will dissolve flesh and bone. Thus, even the hardy, nasty worms supposedly found in pork can't withstand the onslaught of the corrosive chemicals allegedly present in Coke and will come crawling out of their comfy, edible homes to escape it.

The less-than-fantastic reality is that pork products made from domestically-raised animals and sold on the consumer market are pretty reliably free of worms, and pouring Coca-Cola over a slab of raw pork won't get you much other than perhaps a nicely marinated piece of meat.

At great personal expense, we verified this conclusion by obtaining a pork chop from the local supermarket and marinating it in a can of Coca-Cola Classic, producing no discernable result other than a slightly soggy chop. (We didn't try frying it up afterwards to see how the Coke affected its taste):

However, when we tried the same experiment with a can of cheap, store-brand cola, the results were somewhat ambiguous:

Update: In February 2007 a spoof video based on this legend began circulating on the Internet.

Hello,
I have been wondering what the Bible says about tattoos and if God forbids them or not?
My post on a similar thread about a month ago:

Verses that could support tattoos or other body art:

Genesis 24:47: Then I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him.’ So I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her arms.

Exodus 21:2-3, 5-6: But if the servant plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,' then his master shall bring him to the judges. He shall also bring him to the door, or to the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.

Ezekiel 9:4: And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.

Ezekiel 9:6: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.

Ezekiel 16:11-12: I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your wrists, and a chain on your neck. And I put a jewel in your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. (God speaking to his people and comparing their relationship to a bride and groom.)

Revelation 19:16: And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

The context for the Levitical law against cutting or printing on the skin is frequently overlooked. Leviticus 19:26-31 is comprised of 3 complete paragraphs that are a call to separation from pagan types of worship. It forbids eating blood, making enchantments, cutting flesh in mourning, giving your daughter as a temple prostitute, and seeking out practitioners of magic, among others. These were all practiced by the pagan cultures around them, and God was commanding that worship of Him was to be entirely different. It's inconsistent (and could be argued hypocritical) to use verse 28 to condemn tattoos (and somehow extending it to other forms of body art), while ignoring verse 27 in the same paragraph that is opposed to trimming the beard.
