"It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground." -Mark 4:31
I read once read a story in a magazine for Christian teenagers. A non-Christian told a Christian that Jesus said the mustard seed was the smallest of all seeds, but that an orchid seed is even smaller. Does that mean that Jesus didn't know what he was talking about. The point of the story is that you don't have to know all the answers, but it raises a good point. Should we deny the existence of any smaller seeds because of what Jesus said?
Jesus wasn't out to tell people that he knew everything, he was out to tell people vital things in a way they'd understand. So, when he said the mustard seed is the smallest seed what I think he meant was that the mustard seed was the smallest seed any of his listeners were familiar with. I mean, if it's true that orchid seeds are smaller, how many of his disciples were in the business of planting orchids????
