God is there in spirit. He is in the body of all believers. And he is in the word. In the beginning was the word. and the word was God and the words is God. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word. The word has set you free. Many other passages of scripture say the word the word the word. Thy word have I hidden in my heart. I could go on and on. It is a relationship with God which is personal to each person in the body of Christ. and it is a presence that is there every day. Not once a week while taking a sip of wine and eating a wafer of bread :p

Real body presence I do not accept. God is spirit. He is omnipresent. thus he is everywhere. Not in a cup and bread of remembrance.

Either way. The flesh of John 6 is not the eucharist. Unless it gives ALL who eats what I posted.
yes we have the word as well on a special altar from which it is read and we stand when we listen to the gospel which is read every day and every sunday included.

so we have

The word as scripture
The Word as flesh
The Spiirt and
The Spirit in the body of believers

and furthermore, taking the eucharist does grant eternal life for the life is in the blood. and his body is food indeed, granting eternal life.

God bless

I read the word every day. I have it n my heart. and contemplate on it every day. It is not limited to an altar. That was the jewsih way of doing things.

Then why continue to take it. if you are assured salvation after taking it once.

Is the life eternal which means never ending, or conditional, meaning it can be lost.

Jesus said whoever ate would never die, this is eternal life.
Yet unless you are different from every other Catholic I know. One can lose this life even after partaking of the flesh. WHich means it was never eternal life. because it was not eternal. the person can still die. contrary to what Christ said when he said they would live forever..

Matthew 26:26
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body.

The is-ness of the presence of his body depends on taking the Word very seriously. That is why holy communion is not a snack nor a dead memorial.

It recollects and recreates (true memory) the body and blood of Jesus shed for us.
Do you, or did you ever, celebrate the Passover as the Jews did back in the 1st Century and beforehand?

Jesus was calling Himself the Passover Lamb that God, Himself, gave.
Passover completed.
Mission accomplished.

Now, whenever the Jews celebrated the Passover, they were to remember Jesus and how He, as their Messiah, was to be remembered as the Passover Lamb.

It's a rememberance!

It doesn't matter what somebody in your religion said 100 or 1000 years ago.

Well, to YOU but not to me.

It is indeed a rememberance. Or more precisely, a memorial sacrifice. And just like the Passover lamb needed to be actually eaten, so too the perfect Paschal lamb's flesh must be eaten. Thus, Our Lord perfectly fulfills the requirements of the Passover feast by offering us His Flesh to eat.

dscherck and Hearer, I am very impressed on how you have maintained your position even with almost everyone else against you. There are a few things that I am impressed with the Catholic church on. I am impressed that the priest kisses the bible in respect and that the congregation stands when it is read. I am impressed with the reverence that the Catholic church has for Holy Communion.

What do you think happens to your body when you take communion? Does anything special happen? Why do Catholics look so sad and somber when they are taking communion? We have communion at our church too and everyone looks sad and somber there too. I'm just not sure why...

because you do it in remembrance of Jesus death for sin and it is humbling to know that someone died in your place out of Love so that you might become adopted children of God.

HI DS.
it was the sacrifice of the lamb, the shedding of its blood that mattered.

the blood on the lintels didn't cause the death angel to pass over, it was that they SAW it, and it symbolized God's protection and salvation, it foreshadowed Jesus.

the eating of it was just as much symbolism, and communion, as the manna in the desert, and the bread and wine - The Lord's Table.

as EG has pointed out, if the actual consumption of the things that symbolize Jesus Christ give life, why do people die; and more importantly, why did He have to die at all?

love zone.

Then Zone stood in the midst of CC, and said, [Ye] men of Rome, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious:D

hmmm going to have to read this when I get more time.....

But Jesus tells us what we need to get into Heaven and He did not mention the Eucharist...

John 3
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Romans 10:8-11
New King James Version (NKJV)
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”[a](that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”[b

I don't think it could be any more clear :)

1) Jesus' bloodstream is mingled with ours: A communion betwen Jesus and the believer.

2) We should ideally be experiencing deep adoration for Jesus and reflecting on the significance of what has happened at communion.
