There's been a move in recent years toward making the church seeker friendly and non-confrontational. Some of the largest churches in the country have been built with principles that came from Madison Avenue rather than the Bible. Basically the idea is "give them what they want and they'll come back for more". Demographic analysis helps the church leadership to determine consumer demands and the church services and events are designed accordingly. What do you guys think about this approach?

Makes me think of the people who went to the prophets and said...prophesy not unto us right things, but rather speak unto us SMOOTH things....and or the saying which I have heard here....you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.....We are not commanded to coddle the people, but preach the word and lit it fall where it falls...it either draws you or pushes you further away....How many did Jesus have at the end of the day.....11.....I would rather have three faithful than 100 you are haphazard in their service.....!

Dear Lancelot,

My current marketing research shows conclusively that your exclusivist approach is not going to garner a wide range of support on a popular internet forum. In fact, our research shows that hundreds of Christians have already read your post, but they've chosen NOT to comment, because they don't believe it's proper to ever disagree with anyone about anything, and we should all just get along, and we should completely ignore all matters of doctrine, no matter how clear they are in scripture.

For the sake of bringing yourself back into alignment with proper marketing practices, please restate your proposition, and say you believe everything in the universe is just fine.

Jesus taught the TRUTH and only the TRUTH. He never sugar coated it.
A few accepted His teaching and were blessed.
Most walked away because what He taught was to hard for them.
He NEVER went after them but let them continue on their road to self distruction and eteral Hell.
Jesus example works for me.

Well, I would only ask if you have ever seen any of the people you ran off again? It may take 10 visits when we show them Christ's love, but eventually, most of them come to understand and listen to the more direct things we tell them about becoming a Christian. That can't happen if they run from you, never wanting to even see another church because they were "shown the truth" at your church just the moment you got a chance to slap them upside the head with a Bible.

Now there's an example of love, not willing that any should perish.

Jesus even told us about "the shepherd" leaving the 99, and going out to search for that ONE, until He finally found him and brought him home.

The point I was trying to make is that if I must NOT teach the truth to keep them, I will not do that.
It is all about teaching the TRUTH and glorifying God not gaining a great following.
I will pray for them and if given a chance, will try again but I will never compromise the truth.
I will not take time away from those who want to learn to run after those who reject it.
Most rejected Jesus and most will reject us today.
It saddens me that that is true, but it is.

That is a very sad testimony.
Actually the sad testimony is to take a true biblical example of what Jesus did and call it a sad testimony.....as far as you 99 and 1 statement...Did Jesus run after the rich young ruler that walked off lost...begging him and pleading with him to embrace the truth? NO....he laid out the truth and let it fall where it fell...ON DEAF EARS!

Pardon me, did you say, "the woman caught in adultery?"
No I was clear with what I said...sorry if you cant accept it.....the woman taken in adultery was extended mercy because the Jews were breaking the law in condemning her to death in two different ways...and that example has nothing to do with assembly capacity worship and the charge given to pastors to preach the word and let God deal with the people!

Did Jesus coddle the rich young ruler that walked off lost and sorrowful because he had many possessions?
What does it say Jesus did? It says "He looked at him, and loved him."

He knew what that one particular man needed to hear, and he spoke it.... He did not lower the boom on him as so many of us seem to be proud to say we do.
