I don't understand the weird obsession with the works based arguments in this thread. It's done nothing but go in a big circle with so many holes that shot it down it looks like Swiss cheese.....yet they keep coming back.

That is what workers for salvation do...they keep WORKING by putting out their WORKING their way to heaven dogma.....I guess under the works for salvation dogma you get points if you can convert someone to works for salvation.....

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy has he SAVED US<---past tense

In the grace you are, having been saved out of faith and that not of yourselves..it is the GIFT of GOD, not of works lest any man should boast....

Many will come before me in that day saying LORD, LORD did we not do many wonderful WORKS IN THY NAME....he will cast them forth because they trusted in their works as a ticket to the kingdom of God.....

Seem clear enough for me....Salvation is not based upon works....it is based upon faith, grace, mercy and the fact that it is a GIFT......A gift cannot be earned regardless of those who claim it takes labor and works!

we are made into sons of God. We have covenant.
Change "salvation" into son or covenant and watch the real picture emerge.
the produgal is this concept.
No thanks...to add to, change or diminish ought from the word of God is sin.....God inspired the word salvation and no where are we given the authority to CHANGE it into son or covenant......

The prodigal son teaches that there are those who will squander their inheritance through riotous living and still be received as a SON even though they are presumed dead by those around them while they live with the hogs and in the slop of their choices......WHY....because SALVATION and being a SON by birth are both ETERNAL!

Peter is the key.. Salvation with the false contition of circumcision.
The confusion lies with a misundeerstanding of sanctification.

Salvation basically stands alone as the ultimate free gift, whereas sanctification is PART OF salvation intially as "position" but continues on into personal holiness and "sinlessness" (ultimately)

So,aand therefore,we always will be PRONE ,as humanoids, to screw this whole concept up....and we do.

Rule of thumb;
Religion always says DO.......Sonship says D O N E.
Religion is man's ladder reaching for heaven.
Jesus = God's ladder streathing DOWN TO US ON EARTH

Astounds me that you get that lesson from that event but can't see that the son had to repent before he was accepted.

Uh,no. I thought you said you erred on the side of "purity of scripture"????

You completely butchered the little parable.

PSSST, he had to repent of his departure from FAMILY and rely on SONSHIP to RE-ENTER the COVENENT
(which you poo poo)

Did he repent?
Repent means "go back the other way"

He was a son, BUT RECIEVED HIS INHERITENCE. (had no more)

what is that sound on wheel of fortune when there is no letter.....cuz that's what I heard in my head when I read your post. They only thought he was lost because they didn't know he was coming back. It will be the same when you see carnally minded Christians that you know.....in heaven. That is of you're good enough to go there.

Look...believe what you will....the bible teaches eternal LIFE, EVERLASTING LIFE in Christ dia faith......

EVERLASTING does not mean TEMPORARY
ETERNAL does not mean TEMPORARY

If you want to believe that you can lose salvation have a ball
If you want to believe that Jesus does not save to the uttermost then have a ball
If you want to believe you are born of corruptible SEED then have a ball
If you want to believe that all of your sins were not nailed to the cross then have a ball
If you want to believe that Jesus is powerful enough to save you but not keep you saved then have a ball
If you want to believe you have not been sealed with the H.S. of promise then have a ball
If you want to believe that Jesus will not finish that which he started in you then have a ball
If you want to believe you can be ripped form the Father's hand and the hand of Jesus then have a ball
It you want to believe that grace does not MUCH more abound where there is sin then have a ball
If you want to believe that you, by your actions can keep yourself saved then have a ball
If you want to believe that JESUS is a LIAR then have a ball
If you want to reject saved, justified and sanctified for ever in Christ then HAVE a ball
If you want to believe that the spirit that has been born of God sins then have a ball

I don't really care what you believe...my bible teaches eternal salvation and security found in Jesus by the perfect faith of JESUS!

The son never ceased of being a son, just a disobedient son, and if disobedient sons are lost eternally, we are all doomed.

decon, We believe in a lot of the same interpretations of the scriptures, such as all of the above, its a shame that we do not interpret all scripture the same.

Sorry but I do not live in fear, so this assumption would be wrong.
I have full trust in our Lord, which is why I stand and defend all that is in His word.
And He said through John that we have to confess future sins to receive remission of them. I did not say this, no other man said this, it was said by God through John. And the same God through Peter and Paul both said at first acceptance of Him in the faith and repentance only present and past sins at that time were forgiven and cleansed. He died for all of our sins, and then gave us His teachings on how to receive that remission through Him for them. Nowhere in the bible does it say it is given immediately at acceptance of Him, and repentance and confession not needed to be made for them. Then it says in His word ones actions have to show a true repentance, and that if you do not forgive others then you will be forgiven of yours ( no remission ). These are His words not mine !!!
Kenneth, I believe that the only way that a born again person can be able to understand the truth of any scripture is that the Holy Spirit within the person has to reveal, or guide, that persons understanding. I was a member of the church of Christ for a few years, and a deacon for some of those years, but I was always skeptical of some of their beliefs. I left them and sat under many different taught doctrines, determined that I was smart enough, with the help of a concordance, to understand the scriptures so they did not seemingly contradict each other, especially the salvation scriptures. I diligently studied the scriptures for 12 years and finally decided that I was not smart enough after all, and gave up. Not too long after that the scriptures that I had been studying started to harmonize and I think it was because I "denied" myself before the Holy Spirit would reveal anything to me. Many places in the scriptures Jesus says "deny yourselves". It is my belief that the "salvation by works" people are not denying themselves. The Holy Spirit refrains from revealing salvation by grace to a person who has not denied himself because that person would take credit for his own intelligence, just as I would have, instead of giving God all of the credit and praise and honor. You have many salvation scriptures that are proceeded by different works of man which makes you think that those works save you eternally, which in fact, the salvation, or deliverance, following works is a timely salvation and not eternal. If a person does not learn to separate the salvation scriptures, the scriptures will never harmonize.

so you are saying he was saved while in the slop with the hogs????as long as he had remained with the hogs ...to his father he was dead....
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

[SUP]18 [/SUP]I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

[SUP]19 [/SUP]And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

[SUP]22 [/SUP]But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

However you wanna spin it...this is what paul said:

4 When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. 5 But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.6 David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it:
7 “Oh, what joy for those
whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sins are put out of sight.
8 Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.”[b]

so if one dies in disobedience is he still saved???? then all are saved... why obey when we will be saved in disobedience...did Christ save you from sin to live in sin so that you can be saved in sin????

Ephesians 5:5-7King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]5 [/SUP]For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

[SUP]7 [/SUP]Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

1 John 3:10

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

and the only thing that God accepted for righteousness before Christ came was the works of the law of Moses...and that is the work he is speaking about...those who believe /have faith in God must have works of faith...because faith without works is dead...people are making the same mistake as the children of Israel who had works but no faith...
