I would have to disagree.
When I read the literal word in Acts, I do not see the 120 speaking in tongues. I see the ELEVEN and specifically Peter. Mary is named but nowhere is it said she spoke in tongues.
Lets read it together........
Mark 16:14 ...........
"Afterward he appeared unto the
ELEVEN as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen."
I hope that you can agree that the ELEVEN in that verse is the APOSTLES.
Acts 1:4............
"And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me."
Here then are the ELEVEN again as TEY are the ELEVEN Jesus commissioned in Mark 16.
Now just in case there is a disagreement lets see if the Bible will help us identify who THEY were............
Acts 1:13..........
"And when they were come in, they went up
into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James."
If you count the names you will see that there are ELEVEN (11) Apostles present.
Now lets read Acts 2:1-6..............
"When the Day of Pentecost had fully come,
THEY (ELEVEN Apostles) were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where
THEY (ELEVEN APOSTLES) were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to
THEM (ELEVEN APOSTLES) divided tongues, as of fire, and
one sat upon each of
THEM (ELEVEN APOSTLES). 4 And
THEY (ELEVEN APOSTLES) were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Do YOU agree that what is posted here is what the Bible actually says (Parenthesis added by me for claification)?
The Crowd’s Response
Verse #5..........
" And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused,
because everyone heard them speak in his own language."
Do the Scriptures say that anyone other that the ELEVEN APOSTLES spoke in a tongue?
Then notice that the people all there DID NOT SPEAK IN TONGUES but instead they HEARD what the Apostles said in their own LANGUAGE.
Verse #8.............
"And how is it that we hear, each in our own [c]language in which we were born?
